Camilla's POV

The estate was exactly how I remember it.

The gates opened before the car even slowed down.

That was the first thing I always noticed when coming back home, how the mansion responded like it was a living thing.

The drive through the grounds was long and lined with trees so old it got use to the isolation.

The manor sat at the end of it, warm light and pale stone, placed far enough from the city so the noise didn't reach here.

My father had built this distance deliberately after my mother died.

The world had kept moving and he simply decided he didn't want to be near it anymore.

The car stopped and the butler opened the door.

There he was, Elias Rico Voss.

Sixty-one years old, silver at the temples and shoulders that had never learned to drop. He stood at the top of the entrance steps in a dark house robe like he hadn't slept, like he'd been watching the gates since I called.

The moment my feet touched the ground he came down the steps.

I didn't plan to cry but when he opened arms and I walked into them, something I had been holding for three years finally put itself down.

“There she is," he murmured into my hair.

He hugged me exactly like this after I packed my things to settle with Nathaniel, believing I was doing everything for love, believing my father was only trying to control my life.

After I left, he cut off my credit cards and my inheritance on hold in hope that I would come to my senses.

I pulled back from him before I fell apart. "You didn't have to wait outside”

"And miss watching my daughter come home?" Reaching for my face with both hands, he held them and looked at me, analyzing every change and every misfit. “Go inside, change and then we'll talk."

The sitting room was exactly as I remembered. Dark wood, Floor to ceiling shelves along with the faint smell of leather and his pipe tobacco.

I went into my room, everything well placed and arranged, like I had never left, I took a quick shower and dressed up before joining him back in the lounge.

The butler brought in tea without being asked as I curled into the corner of the settee and my father sat across from me, unhurried.

"Tell me, how bad was it?” He said as he dropped his phone after a call.

I knew my father and there was no way he would sound so calm on the phone if he didn't know I was already coming, if he hadn't hired spies to watch his only daughter.

" You already know,” I replied.

"I want to hear it from you.”

I took a deep breath and then pressed my lips together.

"I ran so many tests, I couldn't get pregnant and all the while..” my voice broke "I thought I was the problem, I thought if I had just given him a child then he would… he would love me" scoffing “guess I was stupid for three years"

My father listened without interruption, his fingers laced together.

" I was seventeen when I was betrothed to your mother, you could say we were confused…. I could say you were both confused" he tilted his head.

"But a man who accepts a woman's love and returns nothing for three years isn't confused, Camilla. He's decided." His jaw tightened. "I should have dragged you home myself."

“Then maybe I wouldn't have understood, it was better this way" I stared at my tea. “I wasted three years"

“You were twenty and in love, you've got a whole life ahead of you… a whole empire “

I almost smiled despite myself. “I just…” pitching the space between my brows "I promise to listen, I promise to take over the empire you've built. No running off” I sighed "I'm done using my heart before my head.”

He studied me for a long moment and then nodded once, not brushing off the change in his expression, like he pushed the father aside and let the patriarch step forward.

“Then I have one request.”

There was this shift in his tone that made my brow arch.

At that moment the sound of the automatic gates open and my ear caught the faint sounds of engines.

“You can…"

“A marriage."

I blinked back, almost scoffing “ Daddy? I literally just ended one fifteen hours ago…"

“This would be different, a convenient type of love” his voice was steady and intentional. “A connection between two families that would expand what I've built be you anything.

I opened my mouth.

“You said you'd listen,” he reminded me quietly.

I closed it.

He was right.

I had nothing left to lose and I knew that.

Arguing was pointless since I knew love had already taken its shot and I had the bruises to show for it.

At least this way I'd walk in with my eyes open with no foolish hope mistaken for certainty.

“This isn't about you Camilla, it's about what you're meant to become"

I rolled my eyes slightly in defeat.

“Fine.” The word tasted strange. "Who is he?”

My father rose with a smile "or, where is he?..... Follow me”

I looked at him. “Hold on, now?"

"You didn't think you would dilly dally immediately you came back when you abandoned your duty for three years”

" Daddy I just got home, I haven't even…."

“Camilla." He called curtly.

I set my cup down and stood.

He led me through the east corridor past the library then towards the living room to meet our newest visitor and I was still pulling my coat tighter around me, still composing myself, when it reached me first.

Cologne.

It hit my nose and I could tell how dark and expensive it was.

I slowed almost without meaning to.

He was standing with his back partly to us, having one of his hands in his pocket while the other holding a glass, his attention on the figurines like he'd been reading them.

He had his guard positioned at the edges of the room like they were pieces of furniture that had eyes which tracked everything.

Then he turned.

I took a quiet exhale as my eyes fed on him.

He was…..

There was no soft way to put it.

He was striking, not handsome or proper.

Sharp jaw with dark piercing eyes that moved towards me and settled.

He was tall, I was sure of him being at least six foot three.

“Camilla." My father's voice was calm. "Meet the man you'll be spending your successful life with"

The latter set down his glass and crossed the room in three strides to stand before me and extend his tattoe filled hand.

“Luca Xavier Milano."

His voice was low and controlled.

I took one small breath in before I reached for his hand and shook it, though I felt something passed through me that I had absolutely no language for, I brushed it off and ignored it.

"Diva Camilla Voss” I said.

His dark eyes held mine for a beat longer than necessary.

“I know who you are."

Camilla's POVThe text read. I had never felt excited about a party before but I was about this one. Why? Because the man I'm fucking is going to be with me. Who knows where else we'll be taking an adventure to this night. The bathroom, the hallways…Get it together Camilla, you're a grown ass woman with a plain white reputation and the last thing it needs was a stain on it. Was I a nympho now?Was this what it feels like for women to only be with me for their body? Pffttt, I was married to this man. So I'd feel less guilty about using him. Or was he using me? Arrghhh, I need to stop overthinking stuff. I was already in the car hoping he'd be by the door to the event hall waiting for me but then as the car stopped, there was no one. He's your bad boy Camilla, not your gentleman.“Did Mr Milano say where he'll be?" I asked the driver. “He didn't communicate through me, ma'am." I stepped out of the car, my Cameron Diaz heels, stroking out before my sapphire dress adorne

  • The Heiress He Lost, The Woman His Uncle Claimed    Chapter Twenty-four: purely business

Camilla's POV She rose up immediately from where she sat, her belle bump had Increased by an inch and she looked dolled up. Eyes shadows and almost blended foundation. Her eyes scanned me from head to toe before clearing her throat. “I'm hoping to speak to the person who runs this place," she said. I could almost scoff at the face she was making and the tone she used. " You know, you've always been bad at being sarcastic… your lines never just. Click.” The polite smile she held stiffened slightly. "Too bad I wasn't here to speak to you about sarcasm." My fingers tapped the side of my arm. I could snap my fingers and she'll be out of her and I could also gesture my fingers and she'll be in my office. I chose the second option because as far as stealing my ex husband went, she hadn't spoken to me ever since. A few minutes later, she sat at the other side of my table, legs crossed and her face neutral. " It's funny how you fooled everyone.” She said, "I don't know ho

  • The Heiress He Lost, The Woman His Uncle Claimed    Chapter Twenty Three: breakfast on a wet platter

Camilla's POV My bed was too big for just one person but Luca's bed was enormous. His faint scent of his cologne clung to the pillows and the second I turned and inhaled it. My eyes fluttered open and I stirred, my body still humming from the night before.I stretched languidly, a small smile playing on my lips as memories immediately flooded back. His hands, his warm mouth and the way he'd claimed every inch of me. It made me blush. Sex with Nathaniel was only ever plain as Jane and never as intense as what I felt yesterday. Naked and unashamed, I slipped out of bed, grabbing his discarded white shirt from the floor and buttoning it just enough to cover the essentials. The hem brushed my thighs as she padded barefoot down the grand staircase. The smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries greeted me before I even reached the dining room where I could tell Luca was. Seated at the head of the long mahogany table. His phone in one hand and a cup of espresso in the other. He looked e

  • The Heiress He Lost, The Woman His Uncle Claimed    Chapter twenty Two: intoxicated

Camilla's POV I was definitely not drunk when I said what I said and he was definitely not drunk also as he crossed the threshold first. The air between us thickened with every inch he closed and my breath caught as his gaze locked on mine. His dark and hungry gaze. I could feel the heat radiating from my body as he reached me, one hand sliding to the small of my back and the other tangling in my hair. He pulled me closer and our lips crashed together in a fierce kiss that stole the air from my lungs. His mouth claimed mine and his tongue swept in with a kind of possessiveness that made my knees give way and a low moan escaped my throat. My fingers curled into his shirt, desperate for more, but he broke the kiss just enough to lift me. His strong arms hook under my thighs, spreading my legs apart as he found the nearest wall and pressed my back against it. I reached for him again while his touch sent heat waves to my body, my hands fumbling towards his belt because I needed t

  • The Heiress He Lost, The Woman His Uncle Claimed    Chapter Twenty: Make her cum

Luca's POV Camilla in my words was simply a calm yet untamed force of nature. I had been with needy women, naive women, seductive women, capable women and each of them had one thing in common. They wanted me first. The lust was evident. But Camilla, I could explain hers as ‘need’. Avoiding her might just be the most childish act I have ever done in all my adult years of living. I convinced myself that I had a good reason and that she was drunk and wouldn't remember anything unlike me that lived and now breathed last night. Thoughts of her gasps for air made my pants rigid, the feeling of her skin and the warmth of her insides. The way her walls clamped around me like they never wanted me to let go. Her boobs… Fuck. I combed my fingers through my hair and sighed evenly. I was lusting over my wife. My wife meant for the convenience of our businesses. I went over towards the balcony of my wing after I called in the maids to clear up the broken vase up in my room

  • The Heiress He Lost, The Woman His Uncle Claimed    Chapter Nineteen: The Morning After

Camilla's POVThe first thing I noticed was warmth and the second was the absence of it. I opened my eyelids slowly, letting my sight adjust to the sunlight that spilled across the room through the half drawn curtains. And for several seconds I remained completely still before the memory hit. Luca and his big hands and his voice. I swallowed as heat flooded my cheeks. “Oh my God." I buried my face in the pillow and for a brief, horrifying moment I wondered if I had dreamt the entire thing. But then I shifted and the soreness cleared everything up immediately. Luca and I had sex. And it was the best since Nathaniel's. Not that any of the sex Nathaniel and I had were memorable. On that thought. I sat upright, clearly noticing how silent the room was, no sound from the bathroom and no movement whatsoever.A strange feeling settled in my stomach. Was I perhaps abandoned?I glanced at the table clock and it read eight-thirty in the morning. What went on last night was mutual,

Camilla's POV “Negative, Mrs Hartford" The words settled before I let them sink, once again the test results were the same as always and my wish to have a baby for my husband Nathaniel, was blown to dust, again. I blinked once “Oh," I could barely hear myself say “okay." Nodding as I readjuste
