‘IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A SEISMIC SHIFT IN WEST CITY'S SOCIAL LANDSCAPE, BILLIONAIRE PATRIARCH ELIAS VOSS, HAS CONFIRMED THE RETURN OF HIS ONLY HEIR FROM THE STATES TO SUCCEED HIM AS HE COMES TO AN END OF HIS BUSINESS CAREER” “JUST IN: HEIR TO EMPIRE HEIR HAS REPORTED TO BE MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE ANONYMOUS OWNER OF NOVA COMPANIES AND NOVA FINANCE EMPIRES…. The city moved past the tinted windows and I sat in with my hands folded in my lap, dressed in a winter white Chanel blazer, with a matching skirt that screamed luxury. My hair pinned back, gracing the effortless light make-up that made me more of that woman my father wanted for me. “Are you nervous?" Luca's question interrupted my trail of thoughts. "What? No?” I said almost immediately. "Good." And for some reason I didn't feel the need to fidget anymore. I took one deep breath but the relief hadn't settled before the Nova Corp building arrived before I was ready for it. A hundred floors of dark glass and steel. The car slowed and the moment it stopped I could see them, clustered at the base of the entrance with their camera raised. One of the many things I was willing to risk for Nathaniel. Fame. The car door opened and even before the heel of my stilettos met the ground, the sound of shutters hit first, then voices and the chaos of people who made their living from other people's moments. I stepped out, straightening myself before the questions came immediately. "Mr Milano, how long have you been back in the state?" "Sir, is it true Nova Corp is now in full cooperation with Voss empires?" "Ms Voss, where have you been? You disappeared completely—" “Did you really go to study abroad even after your mother died?” "When did you two get married? Was this arranged by Elias Voss himself?" "Camilla, over here — can you tell us about your time away from the public eye?" I kept my eyes forward and my face as neutral as possible even after the question about my mother. We both moved through the crowd with the help of Luca's men. Then suddenly a microphone appeared on my shoulder. "Should we call you Ms Voss or Milano” "She doesn't answer questions before coffee." Luca said it without breaking stride and without looking at the reporter and somehow it landed like a full stop. The tinted glass doors opened for us and we stepped inside. The lobby staff arranged themselves the moment we entered. “Mr Milano, the boardroom is prepared. Ms Voss, welcome…” "Ms Milano.” Luca corrected and the lady could only bow calmly with a smile. “Of course sir" They all bowed as I walked past as though I belonged here. The way eyes found me, the greetings and nods. I had spent three years walking into the Hartford family orbit and shrinking to fit it. This was the exact opposite of that. The boardroom was glass and clean lines, on it sat the documents my ex husband needed when he stepped in. Imagining the look on his face when he learns of the truth, when he realizes the gen he had lost. “I need to make a call. Ten minutes" Luca looked at me. “You can do this, right?" I forced a small smile and then nodded. He held my gaze for a fraction longer than necessary, then stepped out. I moved to the window. West city spread below me in every direction and I stood with my arms loosely crossed and thought about nothing in particular. Then the boardroom door opened behind me. I turned. “Ma'am, your business partners are here" the secretary informed. Almost immediately, Margaret Hartford walked in first, wearing a sharp coat and a sharper expression and a leather portfolio under her arm. Nathaniel was half a step behind her. They saw the documents first before they saw me. The silence lasted exactly three seconds and Margaret's expression moved through confusion and amusement. “You cannot be serious." Nathaniel blinked as he stared at me. “What the hell are you doing here?" “I knew the divorce was just a show, the brat still stalks you" I couldn't help but smile. "Good morning Hartford's, I hope it's going to be nice doing business with you” Margaret scoffed immediately. “Someone needs to remove her!” Her voice had risen with a pitch of performing authority. She looked towards the door. "Where is the staff? Why is she standing here unsupervised, she doesn't work here…" “I'm not a staff, Margaret." "Oh will you shut your barren hag….” She came at me but Nathaniel stopped her. " Mother, wait, let me.” He said, eyes locked on me as he came closer till he was inches away from me. I didn't flinch, instead I stared blankly, bored in fact. “Did someone put you up to this?" He scoffed, looking away for a second before narrowing his gaze back to me “this is embarrassing Camilla, even for you. Playing office in a building that has nothing to do…” " Careful.’ my voice interrupted calmly. “You're about to say what you'll deeply regret" “Regret?" He laughed, turned to his mother “I'm trying to be nice here because I know this is the kind of stunt you'd pull to get me back.." My outburst of laughter interrupted him, “I'm sorry," pressing my lips together to contain it “I'm sorry go on" His brow twitched in annoyance. “You’re just insane." “Or she found a new bed to climb into like the shameless woman she is or how else would she get these expensive coats and diamonds" his mother resorted. “At least I didn't have to be ordered around by my twenty seven year old son to be able to afford rubies" I added "Camilla…” Nathaniel warned "It's Madame” I said simply, taking one step towards Nathaniel, holding up my hand high enough that he saw the ring on my middle finger. "You are to address me as Madame, as heir to the Voss empire, as the daughter of THE Elias Voss. Oh how I regret leaving my family for you" “You better shut your trap…” he moved to grab my arm in his grip but then the air in the room suddenly shifted. "Don't you dare think to lay a hand on my wife, Nathaniel." A deep voice came from the doorway. Nathaniel's hand dropped, his body turned slowly and stiffly. Luca stood in the doorway. His eyes were on Nathaniel's dropped hand and the look on his face showed he was deciding whether to have Nathaniel's hand amputated or his fingers. But then. "Uncle?” Nathaniel's voice came out differently, I watched the expression on his face switch up as mine switched up as well. Margaret's bag dropped to the ground with a loud clank. "You… how are you…. When did you…” Luca walked into the room without answering them and came to stand beside me, the proximity of him was clear. But I was unclear. What the hell was happening? Uncle? I looked at Luca. His jaws and the darkness of his eye, his cold expression and readable hate for both Nate and his mother. I had it now as I heard it again in my own head. Milano. Luca Xavier Milano. Hartford was of course Nathaniel's father's name. “Respectfully step away from my wife, before I have your brain dissected for even thinking you could touch her" he said again, this time with less patience in his voice.Camilla's POVThe text read. I had never felt excited about a party before but I was about this one. Why? Because the man I'm fucking is going to be with me. Who knows where else we'll be taking an adventure to this night. The bathroom, the hallways…Get it together Camilla, you're a grown ass woman with a plain white reputation and the last thing it needs was a stain on it. Was I a nympho now?Was this what it feels like for women to only be with me for their body? Pffttt, I was married to this man. So I'd feel less guilty about using him. Or was he using me? Arrghhh, I need to stop overthinking stuff. I was already in the car hoping he'd be by the door to the event hall waiting for me but then as the car stopped, there was no one. He's your bad boy Camilla, not your gentleman.“Did Mr Milano say where he'll be?" I asked the driver. “He didn't communicate through me, ma'am." I stepped out of the car, my Cameron Diaz heels, stroking out before my sapphire dress adorne
Camilla's POV She rose up immediately from where she sat, her belle bump had Increased by an inch and she looked dolled up. Eyes shadows and almost blended foundation. Her eyes scanned me from head to toe before clearing her throat. “I'm hoping to speak to the person who runs this place," she said. I could almost scoff at the face she was making and the tone she used. " You know, you've always been bad at being sarcastic… your lines never just. Click.” The polite smile she held stiffened slightly. "Too bad I wasn't here to speak to you about sarcasm." My fingers tapped the side of my arm. I could snap my fingers and she'll be out of her and I could also gesture my fingers and she'll be in my office. I chose the second option because as far as stealing my ex husband went, she hadn't spoken to me ever since. A few minutes later, she sat at the other side of my table, legs crossed and her face neutral. " It's funny how you fooled everyone.” She said, "I don't know ho
Camilla's POV My bed was too big for just one person but Luca's bed was enormous. His faint scent of his cologne clung to the pillows and the second I turned and inhaled it. My eyes fluttered open and I stirred, my body still humming from the night before.I stretched languidly, a small smile playing on my lips as memories immediately flooded back. His hands, his warm mouth and the way he'd claimed every inch of me. It made me blush. Sex with Nathaniel was only ever plain as Jane and never as intense as what I felt yesterday. Naked and unashamed, I slipped out of bed, grabbing his discarded white shirt from the floor and buttoning it just enough to cover the essentials. The hem brushed my thighs as she padded barefoot down the grand staircase. The smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries greeted me before I even reached the dining room where I could tell Luca was. Seated at the head of the long mahogany table. His phone in one hand and a cup of espresso in the other. He looked e
Camilla's POV I was definitely not drunk when I said what I said and he was definitely not drunk also as he crossed the threshold first. The air between us thickened with every inch he closed and my breath caught as his gaze locked on mine. His dark and hungry gaze. I could feel the heat radiating from my body as he reached me, one hand sliding to the small of my back and the other tangling in my hair. He pulled me closer and our lips crashed together in a fierce kiss that stole the air from my lungs. His mouth claimed mine and his tongue swept in with a kind of possessiveness that made my knees give way and a low moan escaped my throat. My fingers curled into his shirt, desperate for more, but he broke the kiss just enough to lift me. His strong arms hook under my thighs, spreading my legs apart as he found the nearest wall and pressed my back against it. I reached for him again while his touch sent heat waves to my body, my hands fumbling towards his belt because I needed t
Luca's POV Camilla in my words was simply a calm yet untamed force of nature. I had been with needy women, naive women, seductive women, capable women and each of them had one thing in common. They wanted me first. The lust was evident. But Camilla, I could explain hers as ‘need’. Avoiding her might just be the most childish act I have ever done in all my adult years of living. I convinced myself that I had a good reason and that she was drunk and wouldn't remember anything unlike me that lived and now breathed last night. Thoughts of her gasps for air made my pants rigid, the feeling of her skin and the warmth of her insides. The way her walls clamped around me like they never wanted me to let go. Her boobs… Fuck. I combed my fingers through my hair and sighed evenly. I was lusting over my wife. My wife meant for the convenience of our businesses. I went over towards the balcony of my wing after I called in the maids to clear up the broken vase up in my room
Camilla's POVThe first thing I noticed was warmth and the second was the absence of it. I opened my eyelids slowly, letting my sight adjust to the sunlight that spilled across the room through the half drawn curtains. And for several seconds I remained completely still before the memory hit. Luca and his big hands and his voice. I swallowed as heat flooded my cheeks. “Oh my God." I buried my face in the pillow and for a brief, horrifying moment I wondered if I had dreamt the entire thing. But then I shifted and the soreness cleared everything up immediately. Luca and I had sex. And it was the best since Nathaniel's. Not that any of the sex Nathaniel and I had were memorable. On that thought. I sat upright, clearly noticing how silent the room was, no sound from the bathroom and no movement whatsoever.A strange feeling settled in my stomach. Was I perhaps abandoned?I glanced at the table clock and it read eight-thirty in the morning. What went on last night was mutual,
Luca’s POVI loathed the rest of the Hartford’s. And accepting an arranged marriage from someone who could get me close enough to crush them was exactly why I was here. “Well then, I'll leave you guys to it" Elias Voss left the room quietly, the door clicking shut behind him. I had expected the
Camilla's POV The estate was exactly how I remember it.The gates opened before the car even slowed down. That was the first thing I always noticed when coming back home, how the mansion responded like it was a living thing. The drive through the grounds was long and lined with trees so old it g
Camilla’s POV The two-hundred-thousand-dollar, black Hermès backless halter-neck fitted me perfectly. I planned to wear it the night I'd finally tell Nathaniel I was pregnant but that day was never going to come. I had booked a hotel after I left the house, showered, changed and showed up to th
Camilla's POV “Negative, Mrs Hartford" The words settled before I let them sink, once again the test results were the same as always and my wish to have a baby for my husband Nathaniel, was blown to dust, again. I blinked once “Oh," I could barely hear myself say “okay." Nodding as I readjuste
