Chapter 2

The stranger smiled at Ro who arched her eyebrow. "Who are you?" she asked.

"My name is Mizuki Kai."

"You don't smell like a werewolf," Ro countered, eyeing the fair skinned lady.

"That's because I'm not a werewolf, I'm a Kitsune," the kitsune had a small smile on lips as she watched the young shewolf assess her.  "Hmmm. Seeing as you're here, are you a river kitsune?" Ro hummed.

"Yes. What is your name?"

"Ro."

"Ro what?"

"Just Ro. What are you doing here?" Ro shrugged. "I'm a river kitsune, i love rivers. I'm just here to play, gives me peace," the lady replied.

"Where do you live?" Ro continued to probe. She was not usually like this but this river was hidden from people, its only visitors were Ro and the critters that lived around the river. So it was quite a surprise to the omega to have met another person at the river. So naturally, she was curious as to who this person was.

"Don't bother yourself with that," the kitsune waved her hand.

"How old are you?"

"Three hundred and fifty two years," she said sitting down as Ro sat next to her before she asked the kitsune, "You have three tails then?"

"Yes. And no, you can't see my tails" Mizuki announced before Ro could ask. With a chuckle, Ro replied, "I know."

The kitsune gleamed with acknowledgement. "Are you the only river kitsune?" Ro asked.

"One of the few left. Just a handful," Mizuki paused before she continued to speak "I have to go back, my people will be waiting. We have to get moving before we're sighted by Fin folk in the ocean."

Ro suddenly wheezed and the river kitsune looked at her in worry. "Are you okay?"

Definitely not, Ro mused.

"There are kingdoms in the ocean?" Ro asked instead.

"There are many kingdoms in the ocean," Mizuki corrected. She then asked Ro, "How old are you?"

"Twenty three."

"I guess I'll be seeing you around, Ro," Mizuki stood up.

"Nice meeting you, Mizuki."

"Nice meeting you, Ro."

With that, Mizuki got into the water until it touched her shoulders, making her look like she was drowning. Then, she turned to smile at Ro as she was being totally submerged in water. Only then did Ro realize it was almost evening. Time was far spent so she decided to eat some berries before going back. The omega was almost sure food wouldn't be waiting for her.

After eating, she began running, a sweet scent wafted in and out of her nostrils but Ro was too focused on where she was going to relinquish in the faint scent. Omega Ro didn't have time to explore it so she just kept going on so she'd get back quickly.

That was until she crashed into someone.

The poor omega thought her head was going to hit the hard ground but a hand held her up, stopping her from kissing the cold and dirty ground. Motion sickness overwhelmed her as the hand held her close to its body. She sniffed that scent again.

Finally, Ro took in the vanilla-almond scent. It was so sweet and sensual that it made her wolf yip. The musky note that came with the smell blended nicely with the fragrance of the jasmine flower.

She opened her eyelids and batted her eye lashes at the human that towered over her. The man, who had just recovered from the impact of the collision squinted his eyes at her.

"Mate," they said together.

Ro's eyes widened when she comprehended that her mate had crashed into her but, she didn't have time to stare at his godly features because she began to smack his chest.

"Were you trying to break my skull?!" she yelled at him. Her mate held her wrists then looked at her. "Do you know who i am?" he growled lowly.

"Let me go, you big brute," she struggled in his hold.

"Ro, he's not an omega," her wolf warned her. Ro froze and stared at him. He stared at her back before shock took over his face.

"You're an omega," he whispered gently.

Ro bit her lip and swallowed the lump in her throat meanwhile the man  looked genuinely perplexed like he couldn't believe what was happening or maybe there was a mistake somewhere.

"I'm mated to an omega?" he asked himself.

Ro's heart dropped to her stomach as she held back the tears threatening to spill. What was she going to do if he rejected her?.

"What's your name?" he asked calmly.

"Ro," she replied with equal calmness.

"Ro what?" his eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. "Just Ro."

"Ro," he repeated slowly like he was savouring sweet wine. "I haven't seen you around," he mumbled.

"I'm a lower omega, we're barely seen."

"Oh, i didn't know," he confessed awkwardly.

"You don't have to reject me please, i understand that you don't want me and i won't bother you," Ro said quickly causing her mate to frown deeply. "Why would i reject you?" he asked.

"I'm a lower omega and you're not–," Ro paused to look for the right word. "–one." she completed, not meeting his eyes.

"Look at me," he said, gently placing his hand under her chin.

"I'm not rejecting you," he kissed her forehead making her smile.

"My name is Ve- Omar."

"What?" she asked.

"Omar."

"That's a good name. If you're not an omega, what are you?" she asked him, already feeling comfortable with him. "I'm just a guard."

"Really?"

"Yes. Sometimes, i guard the pack house and sometimes, i guard the store house."

"You look really handsome for a guard," she blurted out and he laughed. Ro liked his laugh, it was rich with happiness.

"And you are too beautiful to be an omega," he retorted.

"Thank you," she blushed.

That was when she really looked at him. Black eyes, thick angled eyebrows, a very sharp jaw, two dimples and rufous red lips.

Perfect.

"I have to get going now," she announced suddenly. "Why?" he asked.

"I'm currently on rent and I'm not with a very nice family." Omar glared but he wasn't really glaring at her.

"Meet back at the Artemis River in two nights," she kissed his cheek then ran away not waiting for his reply.

When she got back to the house, all hell was loose. She got sent away for not cooking lunch, leaving the house and coming back late then she was reported to Sheila.

Ro got thirty strokes of cane on her soft skinned body and was sent to the pack farms where she got stuck with looking after the pigs. She was assigned to work on the farms for as long as possible till Sheila thought otherwise or till they sent her away again.

But that was the least of the omega's problems. She was more nervous about meeting her mate again.

What if he changes his mind? What if he thinks he made a mistake? What if he doesn't come? What does he even think about her?.

So many whats.

"Stop worrying Ro, everything will be fine," Asuka reassured and Ro really hoped so.

After finishing her chores, she went to the farmhouse to get her food. The omegas had to line up to get their food and had to be satisfied with whatever was given. After eating, Ro went to lie on the mat and started thinking to herself.

If only she wasn't an omega, she would be free to do anything. She would be able to go to parties, not to clean up but to have fun.

She wasn't one to be bothered about these things. If anything, she was quite content with her life and of course, she had no idea what life held for her but she hoped it was good.

Whatever will be will surely be, that, she knew and she drifted off to sleep with that thought in her mind.
