Chapter 3

Alpha Venkat smiled to himself for the hundredth time today. His beta, Eun-Jae looked at him. "What's wrong with you?" he asked.

"Nothing," Venkat replied, the smile not leaving his lips and eyes. His dimples deepened as he thought about his beautiful mate and their meeting tonight. To him, it was considered their first date.

Ro. Such a perfect name.

Ro. Such a beautiful woman.

Ro. His woman.

Ro. His Luna.

Ro. H-

"Venny," the disruption of his thoughts caused a low growl in his throat. He knew who it was. Only one person called him that and he wasn't even in the mood to entertain her right now.

"In here, Mara," Eun-Jae yelled, smirking at Venkat.

The Alpha glared at his friend who chuckled. The door opened, revealing a short, long haired gorgeous lady who jumped into the Alpha's arms.

Amara was Venkat's betrothed.

Their parents were friends and because Venkat and Amara were closer than peas in a pod as children, the parents believed they were mates, therefore betrothing them to each other when Venkat was just eleven. As they grew older and finally became adults, it became as obvious as daylight that these two were simply not destined for each other.

But Amara has refused to leave claiming she chose Venkat over her mate. At twenty one, the Alpha hadn't found his mate and he knew he was going to need a heir soon so he kept her around. A dick move but honestly, even if he told Amara to leave, Venkat knew she wouldn't.

Now at twenty seven, he still hadn't let her mark him although she did let him mark her and the female was satisfied with that. Everyone called her Luna even though she wasn't his real mate and she hasn't had her Luna ceremony yet.

Venkat wouldn't consider Amara a spoilt brat but he was aware she had an unhealthy obsession with him. Of course, he liked Amara but he didn't love her and he would never admit that because he was afraid of hurting her.

He sighed as she peppered kisses all over his face. "What are you doing here, Mara?"

She pouted. "I missed you."

"You always miss him," Eun-Jae added and she rolled her eyes, "No, i do not."

"Mara, you're the Luna right?" Venkat inquired, a question popping into his head. "Yeah why?"

"What do you know about the lower omegas?" Venkat looked at the lady in his arms who just shrugged her shoulders, "They do the work nobody wants to do."

"Do you know any of them?" he asked again. "Why would i?" she scoffed.

"Oh, i see," he nodded slightly. "Maame Efua just gave birth," Eun-Jae announced.

Maame Efua used to be Venkat's babysitter. She brought him up after his parents died in the great war amongst the humans, werewolves and vampires. This should be her fifth childbirth.

"I can't believe her, popping out babies like that. I thought It's painful. Why would she do that to herself?" Mara ranted on.

Venkat ignored her and just thought about when to go and see Maame Efua and what to get her and the baby. "I don't even wanna have kids, we can always adopt. Right Venny?" she looked at the unbothered Alpha.

Venkat stared at her like she was stupid and Eun-Jae laughed. "You don't want a child?" he asked again, just to be sure. "I don't. It's not you, it's me. I don't wanna go through all that stress, my body can't handle it."

"Not trying to be misogynistic but isn't that the main reason you're a shewolf? to have pups for your male," Eun-Jae said.

"Well, I'm sure Venny doesn't mind," Venkat smiled and looked at her.

Oh, he did. Nevertheless, It was a good thing she didn't want a child. He could use that opportunity to break up with her. A bit selfish but It's all good.

"Uh Mara, could you please get me a list of all the omegas?" he decided to change the topic.

"Why can't Eun-Jae do it?" Amara whined.

"He's busy," Venkat lied blatantly.

"I am?" Eun-Jae asked with a confused look, earning a glare from Venkat.

"Oh yes, I'm busy," he was quick to pick up some files on the desk and started counting them. "One file, two files, three files, four files–," Venkat wanted to slap him.

"Please?" Venkat cajoled Amara. "Can't Apikai or Leke can do it?" she bemoaned.

"Both busy too."

"Seven files. Getting bored, please hurry up, eight files–," Amara huffed and stood up then said,

"I'll get back to you tonight."

"I'm on patrol," Venkat lied with a straight face.

"No, you're n–," he growled at Eun-Jae, stopping the beta mid sentence. "Eleven files–," the counting continued.

"Bring the list over tomorrow," Venkat said to Amara. She nodded and kissed him before leaving.

Venkat then turned to Eun-Jae who replied him with "Don't disturb me, I'm busy. Fourteen files."

"I found my mate," Venkat suddenly confessed through the mindlink, afraid someone might hear.

"Fifteen–mates?" his beta looked up at him slowly.

"He found his mate," he mind linked the rest immediately.

"Don't listen to anything he says until we get there," Leke declared.

"Don't command me, top epsilon," Eun-Jae retorted.

"He's right, Eun-Jae," Apikai, the delta said.

"Shouldn't you be on patrol huh?," Eun-Jae asked instead.

"I was on patrol before you spoke," Apikai said in annoyance. Venkat was sure the delta was rolling his eyes.

"Well, I'm itchy for some hot news so get here fast," Eun-Jae said.

"We'll be there in three hours," Apikai asserted.

"What? Are you guys together?"

"Yes".

"Be here in thirty minutes" Eun-Jae finalised.

"Three hours," Apikai repeated. "Thirty minutes," the beta reiterated.

"Apikai, stop arguing with him. Eun-Jae, We'll be there in two hours and sixty minutes. Goodbye," Leke finalised and the mindlink was cut off.

From the smile on Eun-Jae's face, Venkat didn't think his beta understood what Leke said. Then it dawned on him and he furrowed his eyebrows. "Did he say two hours-and-and sixty minutes?"

Venkat shook his head in disappointment and licked his lips. Three hours later and his friends were all in his room. Eun-Jae was sprawled out on the bed, Apikai was sitting at the edge of the bed and Leke was sitting on the sofa with the TV remote in his hand. "So who's this mate?" Apikai began.

"And how's Mara going to take it?" Leke added.

"Like a little girl who didn't get her cookie," Eun-Jae answered. "Who's she?" he asked.

"I don't know yet, I'm meeting her tonight."

"What's her name?"

"R–She's an omega," the Alpha said instead. The TV remote dropped and Eun-Jae gasped, standing up. They all looked at Venkat with mouths wide open.

"Yeah, yeah. I know. Stop giving me that stupid look," their expressions were all mirrored. "Does she know who you are?" the Delta asked.

"No. I lied to her."

"What did you tell her?" top epsilon asked this time.

"I'm a guard."

Eun-Jae stifled a laugh and Leke choked. Apikai just stared at Venkat like he had gone mad.

"Really?" his friends chorused and he nodded. "Will you tell her?"

"I don't know."

"This is so messed up."

"Can we see her?"

"No," Venkat almost growled.

"Someone's possessive." Eun-Jae stood up and left then came back with concealer. He moved closer to Venkat who jerked away. "What the fuck are you trying to do?"

"Covering your hickey."

Venkat glanced at his neck before he sighed. He needed to start avoiding Mara.
