INSIDE his room in the Golden Palace, Eleand came back to his senses. He could still feel the sweat forming on his forehead. He saw something. A bloodbath. He vividly visualized hundreds of bodies bathing in their blood.
He had a frightening dream. It was so unpleasant that he felt throwing up. Maybe this was just the after-effect of the presence of the Ancient Queen because he saw her in his dream. Although her face was blurred, he was sure the slaughter was her doing. Darkness was everywhere, and the queen held a bloody sword. The pommel was a black diamond in the hilt of her sword. There was no remorse in her face when she slew a hundred warriors.
Shit, he cursed more. He slowly got up and leaned his back on the headboard. His throat dried because of his nightmare. Maybe the evil queen cast a spell on him?
“Thank the heavens. You’re awake.”
He spotted Winzi emerge from the terrace of his room. It seemed she was here for long, looking after him.
“What happened?” His forehead creased. Aside from her hellish nightmare, the last thing he remembered was inside the library.
Winzi rolled her eyes, “You passed out inside the library. Are you that hungry to lose consciousness?” she teased.
“Maybe,” he shrugged. He was not in the mood to argue. He was not starving, and he was physically fit enough that he could stand fasting for seventy-two hours.
“It’s almost midnight. I’ll tell Lifa to bring you food. You need a full rest because tomorrow, I will send you to Fariyah’s temple.”
“Thanks,” his head still throbbed.
Winzi disappeared. A few minutes later, Lifa came inside his room with a tray of food. The faerie looked agitated. He caught her giving him a furtive glance several times.
“Something wrong?” he asked.
Lifa shook her head and moved in a hurry. He didn’t want to give false accusations, but Lifa seemed to be in a panic.
“Come on, if you want to say something, go ahead. I won’t mind. I’m leaving tomorrow, and you will not see me again for some time.” He tried to convince her.
“W-Who are you?” she stuttered asking.
“What do you mean?” The line in his forehead deepened.
“I heard you whispering the ancient fae language… earlier while you were asleep.” She lowered her gaze.
“Excuse me?” he chuckled. Granted that he may be sleep talking, but murmuring such a thing was absurd. “I’m sure you’re mistaken. I had a nightmare. What you said is impossible.”
Lifa shook her shoulder. She immediately left when the foods on the table were ready.
Eleand quietly sat in the dining and ate. He should not be bothered by Lifa’s peculiarity. He was in a strange world, with uncanny and bizarre creatures around. If he continued resisting and thought that everything was untrue, he would be insane for real. Acceptance was his key to survival here.
He had a feeling as if he had stayed here for a long time. Even he just came here a few days ago. So many things have happened during his short stay. It seemed that he would be stuck in between the troubles faced by the faeries. What would happen to him if this brewing war materialized? God, he was not ready to die. He was too young, and he had a lot of plans.
Eleand imagined the period until the blue moon for him to go back. He began doubting himself if he could make it out here alive.
He thought of his family. At least he felt relieved upon knowing Elida was safe, somewhere. He assumed that the Migus didn’t lie. If only there were a kind of magic to create a portal going back to his world.
Right! He just thought of a brilliant idea. The fork he held stopped mid-air and put it down back on the plate.
If nobody here would teach him about it, then he would do it within himself. There must be that kind of magic. If ever none, then sorry. But no matter what awaited him, he would survive.
ELEAND suited himself earlier than usual. He would join the breakfast, and he didn’t want to be late. Especially now was his schedule to go to the Autumn Region for his basic magic training. He was unsure about his fate awaiting him there, but he had already made plans last night.
“Whoa, now you look like a faerie prince. I like the glamor. The illusion suits you.” Nahil was smiling upon recognizing him. She examined him a few times from head to foot.
Just now, he remembered that Aserah put a temporary illusion for his safety. Glamor was the magic of illusions. If he was lucky enough, he could learn to use that kind of magic as well.
“Thank you,” a corner of his mouth tugged upward in a smile. These faces were the first things he saw when he woke up in this strange world. He would miss them for sure.
Eleand and Nahil come together in the dining hall. The High Corps was there. They were waiting for them.
He silently sat beside Ahldrin. The General looked unbothered in his presence, while Zanti acknowledged him in a slight nod.
Aserah started talking when all of them were settled.
“Eleand will travel going to Velidia, where he will undergo magic training in Fariyah’s temple. He needs to learn magic to protect himself.”
Zanti agreed and looked at him. “Magic is dangerous. It will not be easy for a mortal. You need to train hard. But I guess you’re a fast learner.”
Hell yes! That was the thing he could flaunt with pride. He wouldn’t be successful in business if he were dumb. He would make sure when he comes back here to the palace. He would never be afraid. And Winzi could never terrorize him again.
He witnessed Winzi lightly raise her brow, but he didn’t mind. There would be another long argument for sure. Besides, if Winzi was tasked with his send-off, he doubted her intention, especially the wicked things she might do to him along the way.
“All right, let’s feast,” Aserah said.
Eleand quietly ate his food. There were slices of bacon, sausages, black and white puddings, vegetables, and potatoes. He could not miss the brown bread, breakfast tea, and orange juice. With so many foods on the table, his appetite was bland because he was preoccupied.
Could he eat like this when he stayed in the temple? He knew that the training would be hard. It seemed that this would be the beginning of his adversity. But he accepted the challenge, and he promised to ace his magic training.
ELEAND stared at the faeries minding their own business outside the Golden Palace, and in his hand, he held the book of magic Aserah gave him. He had a lot of things going in his mind, but he made sure that his goals were clear. He had to survive and endure everything to be able to wield strong magic. He stood few meters away from the main door when he went back to his senses. Some faeries looked at him and mostly didn’t even care. He would always look forward to getting back here.“Are you ready?” asked Winzi behind him. He was caught in awe because of the white fur cape resting on her shoulder.Eleand figured that she knew what he was thinking. Winzi rolled her eyes and scrutinized him from head to toe.“What is your problem?” he asked with unconcealed irritation. He just didn’t like the mocking smile plastered on her face.“How many times do I have to tell you
“TAKE it easy. He won’t bite.” Winzi reassured Eleand after she was satisfied making fun of him. This witch was lying! The beast ran fast, going to their spot, and Eleand was ready to shoot. But it suddenly transformed into a male fae. Just like everyone, his appearance would make those human male magazine models envious. His pointed ears and tanned skin were impeccable. There was a triangle mark on his forehead. His long red hair smoothly flowed, and his vibrant green eyes somehow looked friendly. “I guess I have visitors.” The faerie smiled at them, then turned his attention to Winzi and winked, “Hello, Princess. I’m glad you paid a visit.” Eleand drew a deep breath and relaxed when he heard his welcoming voice. Then he almost laughed when he witnessed how Winzi blushed, and her cheeks turned reddish than normal. Now he got an idea of Winzi’s type—wild faerie beast. “We are going to Fariyah’s temple, so I dropped a visi
THE guards arched their heads down to acknowledge Winzi. At the same time, Eleand was apprehensive when he entered the temple. Winzi just tilted her head to the guards, and she guided him inside. The vast hall startled Eleand as they strolled. Six large blue chandeliers were hanging on the ceiling, the intricate details on the wall were painted in gold.At the center of the hall, there was a colossal statue of a woman made of ice. The sculpture held a lance. Maybe this was the representation of Fariyah.“That is the ice statue of Viera, the Goddess of Winter,” Winzi said upon reading his thoughts. She even rolled her eyes and spoke again, “She is Fariyah’s ancestor.”“Nice,” he was amazed to know. It seemed like the source of the mythology from his world had a basis. They were both stunned when a female faerie emerged from nowhere. She wore a white hooded swirling gown. Her
ENKILLE provided him breakfast when he woke up in the morning. She proudly showed him the walk-in closet where his clothes were neatly hanged. All were winter clothing and several battle armors.“Today, I suggest you wear special armor and a fighting suit because Fariyah will test your strength. Physically and mentally. Best of luck!” she said when he finished his meal. She immediately left after giving him some advice for his first day of sparring with the priestess. Although he was agitated thinking about what could happen, Enkille reassured him that everything would turn out good if he did his best.Eleand chose the appropriate clothing according to Enkille’s advice. He picked the black suit with silver linings. That combination became his new favorite for an unknown reason. He just really loved dark colors. He went down with his golden bow. Better be prepared because he could not wield any other weapon.
THE worried face of Enkille welcomed him. There was a blue light emitting from her hand, and she was gently pressing his stomach. He was shirtless, but surprisingly, he could not feel the cold around. He was lying in his bed, and the faerie was using her healing magic.“Wait, hold on. I’m almost done,” she lightly exhaled.“I can’t believe that I’m still alive!” he exclaimed. Still remembering how deep his wound was and the loss of so much blood. He was still lucky after all.Eleand tried to get up and leaned on the headboard.“Luck is on your side. I heard you call my name. You were dying.” Enkille shook her head.“Fariyah tried to kill me. How could I fight back to a goddess?” His face contorted when he sensed the throbbing pain in his back and stomach.“Turn around. You have a wound on your back as well. Let me fully close the wound behind
ELEAND still sensed the loud thump of his heart. His sick stomach turned, and he was about to throw up. He had witnessed an entire army being slaughtered. The Faerie Queen was there again, unleashing hell.Enkille stood beside him when he opened his eyes.“You have to master the Protexerium even in your sleep until you breathe with it. If you didn’t do that, those nightmares would haunt you forever.” Enkille looked worried. She scrutinized him with her arms crossed.“Why I see the Ancient Queen? It seems her power is lurking over me.” He weakly sat down on his bed.“When did this nightmare starts?”He pondered. “I guess it was the time I saw the queen in the Golden Palace.”Eleand could not think of any reason. The pattern of his sleep was good for the past nights before meeting the Ancient Queen. He was sure it had something to do with her threats since she kn
ARRANO flew, and they rode around the sky.Eleand witnessed the panoramic view of Velidia. The Winter Region was so magical above. He bellowed, not because he was afraid but ecstatic. He spread his arms wide, letting the snow fell in his body.“Look at that mountain, it’s a part of the Winter Region, but it looks barren and dry.” He pointed to the mountain on the southern side of Velidia.“That’s the Steri Volcano. We call it the Unforgiving Mountain. For some reason, no plants thrived there, and no water source. Even the snow immediately melted when it hit the ground.”“I can see that it’s dangerous.” He tilted his head, thinking he would never dare to set his foot in that volcano.Enkille tapped Arrano. “Fly higher!”The creature followed her command. While they flew higher, Eleand sensed freedom. If only he could fly with Arrano and Enkille in hi
THREE days’ rest was over. Eleand filled his lungs with air when he went out to his room. The day of his fight with Fariyah finally came.He calmed himself. At least at this moment, he could wield the basics of the Protexerium. But still, he needed to prepare himself for the worse outcome. Fariyah’s magic was out of his league. Another wrong move, then he would be in the afterlife.“It’s a good thing that you recovered at last.”Eleand looked in the direction of the voice. He composed himself when he recognized the priestess. Her face was void of expression. The usual cold appearance. But this time, she was not wearing her combat suit. She wore a turquoise gown with a white fur coat on her back. Her gray hair softly flowed down with a braid circling her head.Better. He breathed loosely. It seemed she wasn’t planning to go on a fight.“It’s
