Chapter 2
Adele Wilson Lunchtime; Academy canteen 'Did you see what happened earlier? I feel like Jason did that to save her'. 'Why would Jason save her? I don't feel that way'. 'Jason doesn't easily get involved with other students. He rarely speaks to Henry too' 'Could it be that Jason has a crush on her? That's not even possible' 'Chloe is so going to kill her' Slowly, my fingers curled around the fork I was using to eat as I listened to those disgusting whispers from the students. They couldn't even keep their voices down. 'If you are going to gossip about someone, why not fucking keep your voice down?' I wanted to yell, but composed myself. Chloe's familiar and unique perfume thickened the air, accompanied by the noise around me fading into silence. "Hey!" Chloe pulled a chair and sat beside me, her eyes on me. Her blue eyes were blazing with anger that sent horrifying chills down my spine. She stared at me, face wrinkled in disgust. "Is something going on between you and Jason?" My eyes widened. "Huh?" Jason has never spoken a word to me, what made her think that? "Answer my question." she sneered. "No." "Then why did he butt in earlier in the ballroom?" She wasn't going to give up, determined to get the answer that wasn't even there. "I... don't understand what you are talking about." She scoffed, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "You are really going to act clueless with me, huh? Why he help you earlier?" Help me? Could this be true? Did he really butt in earlier to help me? But why? "I don't know what you are talking about." And without another word, I stood up hurriedly in a bid to leave. "Sit your ass back down, Adele. I'm not done talking." I found myself obeying her. “Adele…” she paused, then leaned close. “I don't care whatever game you are trying to play, but trust me, I am the last person you want to mess with. Stay away from my man,” she threatened. “Try anything stupid, Adele, and you are out of the academy. Of the pack… And oh… With just a snap of fingers, your father will lose his job.” A smug smirk tugged at her small lips. "You don't want to mess with what is mine." She stood up, patted my hair, and smiled before leaving. I couldn't finish my lunch after what happened, and going back to the class was the last thing on my mind, so I went to the only safe place where I could clear my head. The figure skating arena. It's always empty by this time of the day. The door to the arena creaked loudly as I pushed it open, the soothing scent of the ice rink and its beautiful sight welcomed. I dragged myself to sit on on of the chairs, the only questions on my mind as I stared at the ice rink; 'Will I ever get to skate there like other people?' "Life is unfair, right?" I looked beside me, and my chest heat up at the sight of Jason, in his team's jersey. A green jersey with white stripes on the arm, with 'Predator' inscribed in front of it. His helmet was in his arm, so I presumed he was either heading to the ice hockey rink, or leaving. Wait... Did Jason Wolff... the unreachable Jason just talked to me? My chest pumped up and down with my heart beating loudly against it as he closed the distance between, sitting right next to me, and gazing into space. "Life can really be unfair..." he paused and looked at me. "If you give it a chance to be." He smiled. One that didn't reach his eyes. "Huh?" I pinched the skin under my skirt. To be sure I wasn't dreaming, and the sting confirmed that I wasn't. Silence thickened around us, dragging on intensely. My brain suddenly stopped functioning, not knowing how to act around him, or even form a single sentence. Don't blame me. I had never sat this close to him. Then he spoke out of the blue. "Do you want to trample upon them? Henry, Chloe, and all your bullies. Do you want to make them pay?" I froze, blinking my eyes as confusion shot through me. "What if I told you I could reshape your life? Make your dream real?" He offered, his eyes blank. "I'll make everyone who's ever laughed at you, beg to be in your presence." My lips parted as waves of shock sparked through me. Why was he doing this? First, he was always watching me, and now this? For a moment, I was tempted to take the offer right away. The pain was already too much and I needed an escape, but hell no! I couldn't allow myself make such mistake. His phone rang, disrupting him. He glanced at the screen, then turned to me. "If you want to survive in this academy, then you have a to make a choice, Adele..." He even knew my name? "To either be a predator... or a prey." He stood up and turned his back on me. "I'll be waiting here by this time tomorrow, expecting your reply. I will take your absence as turning down my offer." He turned to leave. I rose to my feet. "Why do you want to help me?" He paused, then looked at me over his shoulder, a soft smile playing around his lips. "Just because." That was his only reply before he walked away. Just because? What does it mean? I sighed, dragging my fingers through my hair. Many thoughts lingered in my mind, but not once did I let myself think of what he said. My phone pinged, and I hesitantly reached for it. Dad; 'I'll be sleeping over at the packhouse today, darling. The alpha need me here. I kept some leftover food at home. Make sure you eat. Daddy loves you'. My lips curled in a smile as my eyes scanned through the text. 'Just because' Jason's voice rang in my head again, and I left my gaze. "Don't think about it, Adele." I whispered, tightening my fingers around my phone...Chapter 14Adele Wilson “Strip, Adele!”I froze. My eyes widened.“Wh…what?” My voice cracked, lips trembled as cold seeped through my body.“He…Henry…” My throat burned hot… Air vanished from my lungs. I opened my mouth to talk, but no words came.“That is the punishment I've chosen for you… for disobeying and humiliating me.” He went back to sit on the chair, lips curled in a smirk, eyes locked on me.I tightened my jaw, staring at him silently, tears streaming down my cheeks. He already destroyed my father's house. What more does he want?“Why are you doing this to me, Henry? I did nothing wrong to you.” My voice cracked.“What did you do to me…” he mumbled, leaning close, eyes locked on me. “What did I tell you, Adele? You are mine, Adele… Mine!”I tightened my fist, dropping my gaze. My mind went blank for a moment. I just knelt there, staring at the floor. My hand trembled as I lifted my hand to my shirt, but paused. There's no way in hell I'm doing this.I instinctively stoo
Chapter 13Adele Wilson I walked inside the ice hockey arena at exactly 5:30 A.M.My legs halted forcefully as I spotted Jason on the ice rink, skating. Fingers curled tightly around the hockey stick as he moved the puck speedily across the rink.I had pictured everything in my mind. How beautiful and perfect I would be after Jason helped me lose some weight as he had promised, but I couldn't bring myself to continue this. Not when my father's life is in jeopardy."Why have you not changed into your workout clothes yet?"My breath caught in my throat as his voice slammed me back to reality, and I realised he was already standing in front of me, eyes locked on me. "Good morning..." My voice sounded beneath the loud banging in my chest. "Yeah... Morning. Go change into your workout fit and come back." He then turned, skating away when I called his attention."Jason..." He paused and looked back at me."Yes?"I bit my lip so hard that it almost bled. My fingers dug into my palms in a
Chapter 12Adele Wilson ‘Stay away from Jason, and I will spare you, Adele’.My breath caught in my throat as Chloe's voice rang in my head over and over again. I curled up on the bed, staring into space, many thoughts lingered on my mind. The anger I felt earlier that pushed me to talk back at Henry had disappeared. All I felt now was fear… Just like that, I had crawled back into my shell, but still, I didn't regret what I did. I'd have still done that even if it was the last thing I had to do on earth. My phone rang. My father's number displayed on the screen.“Father?” I muttered, wiping my tears with the back of my palm.I cleared my throat, to be sure I didn't sound teary, then I answered the call, pressing the phone to my ear.“Father…”“Adele…” his voice cracked, and he sniffled. “Father… are you alright?” “Yes, I'm fine, daughter… I… uhm… can you not come home for some time?” I squinted my eyebrows. “Huh?”“The thing is, our house was attacked.” He sounded like he was a
Chapter 11Adele Wilson “He…Henry…” father stuttered, obviously tense. Has this bastard been bullying my father too?“Uhm… I'm sorry… I had no idea you… you… were in the academy.” Father's voice quivered, his hands trembled slightly as he fondled his fingers. Seriously?I stepped away from Henry, and went to my father. “Father, you should get going.” I rubbed his arm to ease him.“Come on, Adele. I'm still talking to him. You can't ask him to leave like that…” he paused, then turned to my father and smirked. “You won't leave, will you?”My father looked at me, forcing a smile. “Daughter, why don't you go back to your dorm, hmm? Father will handle this here.”“No. I won't leave until I watch you leave.” I insisted.“Aww… What a father and daughter moment. I love this.” Henry chuckled, clapping his hands. My heart twisted in my chest, hammering against my ribcage, and blood boiling as rage spurred through me. “Father, you should leave. I will sort this out with Henry.” I whispered to
Chapter 10Adele Wilson ‘Jase? She's even calling him by a nickname? Do they know each other before?’My heart twisted in my chest as I watched Jason wave back at her… smiling.Wait… this was the first time I'd ever see Jason smiling. They must be really close.“Come on.” Viola held my arm and dragged me to Jason.“This is unfair, Jase! You didn't call me to come here quickly.” Viola pouted her lips, sitting across from Jason.“I had a meeting with the coach. I rushed here for breakfast as soon as I left.” The way he looked at her as he spoke. The way his voice was extremely calm. It stirred something in me. Not anger… maybe jealousy.“I'll go buy us food…” Viola stood and turned to me. “What should I buy for you, Adele?”“Uhm… Rice—”“Salad… Get her salad.” My eyes widened as Jason spoke. Salad? That wasn’t even enough to fill my stomach, let alone fuel my aching body. But Jason’s eyes told me this wasn’t a debate.“Uhm… Jason…” my voice faded as he lifted his gaze to me, and I l
Chapter 9Adele Wilson ‘90kg’I exhaled as I stepped down from the weighing machine Jason had me stand on.“Will this work?” “If you are determined, it will.” Jason heard me even though I had whispered those words to myself.“Since we are just starting, let's just warm up today. Five laps… and we'll call it a day. For today.”My eyes widened as I looked around the track. No, I can't do this.I gave up mentally, but I knew I couldn't tell Jason, so it was no point.“Okay…” I forced a smile. His eyes roamed around my body. “What's with your clothes?”I bit my lip as I looked down at the baggy shirt and pants I was wearing… My usual style of dressing.“I'll get one later in the day.” I muttered, but deep inside me, I knew I couldn't afford it. He looked away from me, stretching his body. “Let's go.”He took off, and I followed.First, it was jogging, and on the second lap, he increased his pace.My heart pounded hard in my chest, my breath stuttered, and my legs weakened, begging for
