The Hunted Vampire
Author: Kelvin Ateb

Prologue

The moon shone beautifully on the surface of the earth, the wind danced gently like it was welcoming the descent of angels.

“Where are we going?” A young lady in a red dress questioned the man holding her hands as he led her through the forest.

“Shush Selena, don’t you know demons lurk in this forest?” The man dressed in casual clothing teased his girlfriend but all this made her giggle like a schoolgirl, the leaves soon rustled, it was coming from behind the thick bushes and trees.

“Honey! Did you hear that?” The lady sounded distressed upon hearing this but her boyfriend waved it off as he was overcome with lust. The blood in his head was flowing somewhere else at the moment.

He pushed her up against a tree and made his move, he could feel his body heat up because of what he had already done to her in his mind, and boy, has he done a lot.

“H-Honey, you have to be patient,” The lady squirmed. She was not comfortable but her boyfriend mistook this as her playing hard to get and became more forceful.

“Now isn’t the time Selena, I am all fired up!” The man blurted out but Selena wasn’t having any of this and pushed him away from him.

“I SAID NO ETHAN!” Selena shouted. Ethan had a face of surprise but that soon changed to anger. The fear that crept up on Selena’s face meant that this was a frequent occurrence.

“I'm sorry! I didn't mean to push you, Ethan!” Selena begged frantically but Ethan simply smiled.

“It’s okay, I’m not mad Selena. Take off your clothes so we don’t get into another fight,” Ethan requested but this sounded more like a threat than a request. Before they could go further the rustle that Selena heard was now heard by Ethan, drawing his attention to that sound.

“Who is there?” Ethan’s voice was cold and the annoyance embedded in it was evident.

There was no response to his question, however, and this was not surprising.

Ethan was already in a bad mood but his mood only worsened with this development.

“Honey, let’s go…” Selena blurted out but the glare Ethan shot back in response made her wish she hadn’t spoken in the first place.

“I ASKED WHO THE FUCK IS THERE?” Ethan’s voice echoed in the forest but what came out from the bushes was a stray cat.

Ethan stared at it blankly, and Selena’s eyes widened in horror because she knew what he was about to do but there was no way her conscience would be able to handle such an extreme action against a poor cat.

“Ethan baby, come here!” Selena said as she slid down one of the straps of her dress but this request fell on deaf ears.

“It is funny, you denied me some kitty and now one has appeared before me,” Ethan said with a chuckle. He was laughing for all the wrong reasons because now he was going to hurt the cat.

Cocking his head back at Selena with a mischievous smile.

“This is your fault, Selena,” Ethan said as he turned his head to carry out the nefarious acts in his head and what came next was a splatter of blood.

“AAARRRGGGHHH!” Selena screamed and the view before her was the headless standing body of Ethan being held up by a figure that was obstructed by the swaying leaves that shielded them from the moonlight.

Selena’s fight-or-flight instinct kicked in and she chose flight.

“Damn it, he was not alone.” A man with a deep voice said, taking out his fangs from the gushing body of Ethan, but despite not being hungry, the creature knew it could not let Selena leave. It did not enjoy its meal because Ethan had the most common blood group in the world and that was their equivalent of a flat cola. This had quickly turned into a horrid evening, one of the most traumatic events for Selena but it was about to get worse.

“Hey… You shouldn’t be doing that,” A voice said, it had the same bass as the one that had just killed but it was a lot more authoritative.

“That scent…” The blood-soaked vampire thought to itself, the man that had just spoken was a fellow vampire like him but this scent felt familiar.

Stepping into the moonlight from the shadows, what came into light was a blonde-haired vampire with crimson-red eyes and a very attractive face.

“I know you!” The vampire that killed Ethan blurted out but his calm expression was broken into one of fear.

“You are the vampire that hunts vampires!” This realization forced him to immediately try and retreat but that was not possible because the only thing that left that position was his body, not his head. The difference in their ability was that vast as he had been decapitated before he even realized that he was without a head.

“Vampire hunter? That’s vulgar. Please, call me Liam,” The man said to the head in his hand.
