The summer between Junior and Senior Year

Chapter 13

About a month into summer, as I was on patrol one day, I was approached by a rogue family. As they approached, I let out a low warning growl to let them know they were approaching pack lands. I then mind-linked my dad and some warriors, to meet me at the southern border as there were rogues, and I might need help. I asked one of the warriors to bring me some clothes. 

As the family stopped in their tracks and bowed their heads,  the male then shifted back to his human form, and said, “We come in peace. We wish to join your pack please.”. I huff at him, and lower my head slightly to let him know that I understand. I mind-link my dad and let him know, he tells me he's almost there. 

As my dad and 4 warriors arrive, one of the female warriors hands me some clothing for me to change into. As my dad starts to talk with the man, I head behind a tree to shift back, and put on the clothing the warrior handed me. I was given a pair of basketball shorts and a t-shirt. After dressing I headed back to where my dad was. 

The family is telling my dad that they were in a pack that was not kind to them, as they were just a low ranking family, and they were mistreated in their old pack. They left the pack and became rogues, and have been for 3 years now. The woman then speaks up and says, “I used to work in the kitchen of our last pack. I would love to help out here.” My dad says, “We don't have a kitchen staff here, as we take care of our own cooking. Unless we have other packs over, not that we have yet, but we have a diner that is in need of a good cook, and a family to run it.”

They all look shocked at this, start crying and thanking him. I see my dad mind-liking someone and I know he's mind-linking my mother. About 5 minutes later my mom comes walking up, she approaches the woman, coos at her, and says, “We're not like other packs, we take care of all in our pack. We would be happy to have you, and you don't need to cry. My daughter has been hoping for someone with good cooking skills, as she can't wait for the diner to be open.” The man stops crying and says, “I can't believe it, when we heard about your pack, we thought it was too good to be true. We said there is no way, but I can see how wrong I was. This is my mate Faith, and my 2 children Hanna and Billy and I'm Luke. My daughter is 17 and my son is 16.” 

My dad speaks up and says this is my wife Violet, my daughter Ashley, and I’m Havrith. We are the Alpha family. Normally we don't initiate kids under 18, how far from 18 is your daughter.” “6 months,” the man says. “Ok, as you 4 will be running the diner, I would like to initiate you all in. If you don't mind, please go over with your kids what that means, and if they will be ok with it.” my dad says to Luke. The man looks at his wife, and then back at my dad and nods. “They already know and are ok with it, as are we.” Luke says. 

My dad initiates all 4 of them, and we take them to an empty house close to the diner. My dad tells them, “Our High school doesn’t have enough teachers and staff yet, so all kids in 9th-12th grade, go to the human high school. We will need to enroll them by the end of summer. We also have a pack bus that takes all the high school kids to and from school.” The mom starts crying again, my dad looks at my mom, and my mom nods. “Honey,” my dad says to me, “why don’t you take Hanna and Billy, to pick out a room in the house closest to the diner, along with showing them where the bathrooms are in the house so they can both shower. Can you also mind-link Matt and Kim to bring some clothing for the family? Your mom and I will talk with Luke and Faith to get them set up at the diner.” 

“Of course dad” I say, then turn to Hanna and Billy and say, “let’s pick out a bedroom for each of you up stairs, the rooms should be fully furnished, but I’m sure there might be some things you would want to change to personalize it to your liking.” As the 3 of us head upstairs, I tell my mom to send Matt and Kim up when they get here, and ask her to get someone to get some bathroom stuff. My mom nods, and we head to the first 2 doors. 

As I open them, I tell Billy to pick one, he says, “I’ll take the one on the right, so my sister can have the one with a small ensuite bathroom.” Hanna hugs him and says, “Thanks bro.” Billy then says as he walks inside the room, he’s going to take a look and get to know his new room. As Hanna and I watch her brother, we head to the bedroom that is hers and walk into her room. I watch as she looks around the room, I can see she has tears in her eyes, and I decide to not say anything until she speaks first. After she is done admiring the room, she looks at me. 

I ask her to have a seat on the bed, she does so, and she and I start talking about anything she wants to change in the room, as we wait for Matt and Kim to bring clothes and bathroom items. We talk for about 45 minutes, then Kim and Matt both arrive with some of the pack members. Matt and Kim head up to Hanna’s room and knock on the door. I look at Hanna and say, “It’s your room Hanna, you have to invite them in.” 

She heads over to the door and opens it, Matt is the first to say, “Hi and welcome to our pack.” Kim then says, “Hi I’m Kim the future Gamma and this is Matt the future head trainer. We were told you may need some clothing and bathroom necessities. We also have some pack members that have brought you all some food and supplies. We also have pack members restocking the diner for you and your family. When you are ready we can all go over and show it to you.” Hanna then says, “Thank you, I think I'm going to take a shower and then I’ll head down stairs.

Matt and Kim both go and knock on Billy’s room, and introduces themselves to Billy and he thanks them and says the same. The 3 of us nod and make our way downstairs, to where the adults are. My mom calls me over and she tells me that the pack members are going to help them put things away, and says her and my dad are going to head over to the diner. She asks, if myself, Kim and Matt would stay and show them the way when they're all ready. I nod as does the rest, and my mom and dad head out to the diner.

Once Luke and his family took a shower and changed into new clothes we headed to the diner. When we got there my parents were finishing stocking the diner with food, and other diner supplies. My dad said, “You’re all just in time, we just finished stocking the diner with everything you’ll need.” We showed them around the diner and the newly finished kitchen with state of the art kitchen appliances.

 “We recently gutted and changed the old grill with this new stainless steel hot top, new walk-in fridge and walk-in freezer, new mixer and self cleaning dishwasher conveyor. In the front we added a new ice cream machine and milkshake mixer, along with a new soda machine that has flavor shots added to it. The ice machine is also new and makes the nugget ice, that is all the craze right now according to my daughter.” 

“We will leave hiring staff for the other positions up to you, but if you need help with anything or anyone please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or my family.” Luke looks at my dad in awe and says, “Thank you so much, this is more than we could have ever hoped for. We were never given this much respect or trust in our last pack. We promise to never let you down and will make payments on time for the diner and what we need to order for supplies. I would appreciate any help in the hiring process for additional staff, as I wouldn’t want to hire anyone you do not like.”

My dad replies, “We’re technically new to this area as well, we’ve only been here for almost 3 years and have not found anyone not like worthy yet.” I then say, “Might I suggest, maybe hiring some of the High school kids as an after school job, as waiters and waitresses.” Luke says, “That’s a great idea, I would’ve never thought of that as we’re still new. Maybe you’d like to sit in on the interviews as well when hiring the high school kids?” “That’s okay Luke, I will trust yours and my dads judgement” I say.

The next few weeks go by and Luke and his family are settling in great, they’ve hired several high school students both from our pack, and from the human high school, to work during the summer and after school. Hanna and Billy have integrated with our click of friends and even made friends with some of the other kids that have joined the pack and are working at the diner. 

Around Mid-july my dad and I start talking about where I will be going to Alpha University and how long I’ll be gone for. He tells me, “I looked into a few of them, and there is one here in Colorado, in a city called Cripple Creek. Or if you prefer, you can go to one of the out of state Universities. The amount of time you’ll be gone depends on where you choose to go. The out of state ones are usually around 4 years, but the one in state is only 3 years and there are no breaks. Meaning if you go to the one in state you’ll be done before your 22nd birthday and if you go to an out of state university you will be done before your 23rd birthday. The in-state one is guaranteed to have separate classes for Female Alpha’s, however the closest out of state one would be near Moon Haven pack and you’d likely be in the same classes as Jason Wright the Alpha of our old pack.”

As my dad explains that the closest out-of-state uni would be near moon haven I start shaking my head. “There is No Way I’m going to go to the same Uni as Jason. I think I’ll stay closer and do the faster course that has guaranteed female Alpha classes.” I say. “Also that would mean that I would graduate faster than him, and can get back sooner to take over as Alpha.” 

“That’s a good idea sweetie. The other thing we need to discuss is what we are going to do to get approved as an official pack by the Royal King Alpha and The Council of Elders. What did that representative say to you as they left last year?” my dad asks. “He said that hopefully by the summer of next year, that we will have enough people to ask to be recognised by the Counsel and the Royal King Alpha as an actual pack, that he cannot wait to see what we have come up with to present to them, and that we need about 100 more people to apply. He said he liked the fact that we want to be a neutral based pack and that we accept all species and all mates. He told me that he likes that we have a separate hospital just for Royals and VIPs, that is kept separate from others, and that it has vetted and personal staff for it, that were given clearance.” I say.

“How do you think we can get 96 more people so that we can apply to be an official pack? Also what do you think we can propose to the king and elders to be accepted?” I ask my dad. “Well honey,” he says, “I’m not entirely sure but I know that you’ll think of something. We also need to start your Alpha training again this coming school year.”

While walking back to my room I mind-link Alice, Kim, Matt, Crystal, and Jackie to meet me up there, so we can figure out how to get 96 more people before next summer and how to propose to the king and elders council on accepting our pack officially. Several hours later we still hadn't thought of how to get more people to join, but we did figure out how we were going to get the king and elder council to accept our pack. We all headed down to the kitchen for dinner, and decided to talk again tomorrow with a fresh mind on how to get in touch with more people to join us.

The next day when we wake up, we meet in my dads office and try to think again how we can get more people to join so we can have the required 500 people minimum to be accepted as an official pack. Matt asks, “What about the Enchanted Packlands? Can they give you a list of people that were protected by them that are still in Colorado that haven’t joined our pack yet? Is there a way to even contact those shifters?”

“I can ask EP but we’ll still need probably more than that of people to join us.” I say. I call out in my mind, to EP, and ask them if there is a way to contact the other people that were protected by them, from the last pack that was here. They told me that they can’t contact them themselves, but they can give me a rough location of each of those families that are still in the state of Colorado. I tell EP that that would be great, and ask Matt for a map of Colorado. Matt hands me the Map, and as EP tells me the rough location of each family not in our pack yet, I circle the location on the map. EP also tells me that there are some other shifter families that were kicked out of the last pack due to not having the same beliefs as the last Alpha, and gave me the location of those families as well.

Later that day, I handed my dad the map of all the shifter families that EP told me the rough location of, and said “Dad, EP gave me the rough location of shifter families that were either kicked from the last pack, for not having the same beliefs as the last Alpha, and the shifters that were still apart of the last Pack on these lands that were protected by EP. Maybe we can go to these areas on the map and get them to join us? There should be enough people if we can get them to join us plus a few extra to make us have enough to officially apply to be a recognised pack.”

“I’ll send out a few warriors to go look. Please tell whoever this EP is that I said thank you for this help” my dad says. “EP is the Enchanted Packlands dad, I just gave them a shortened name, so it was easier to call them.” I said.

Dad sent out a few warriors in different directions to see if the families that were part of the last pack wanted to join our pack of all species of shifters. He also sent a few warriors out to the families that were kicked out for not having the same beliefs as the last Alpha. He made sure to tell the warriors that they were to tell those families that we accept all beliefs and mates of all species.

Most of the families agreed and we helped them all move to our pack. After they joined we finally had enough people to apply to the Royal Pack and Elders council. We decided to wait until the following summer to actually apply incase we got more people to join us. The shifters that joined us were more Wolves, Bears, Lions, Hawks, Foxes, Tigers and even a few more vampires moved in.

In 3 weeks I’ll turn 18, and a week later we start our senior year of high school. I can’t wait for half days because I’ll be done with needing an elective and language and PE. The only classes I’ll need to take are my AP classes of English, History, Math, and Science. Then I’ll be coming home to do Alpha training with my dad and witch training with my mom. She says she is planning on teaching me the memory spell to help with keeping all 3 areas of study separate.
