Jade Pinkerton pov

Looking at the tray before me I glanced up and watched Nikolai rise to leave me with his own food. I wanted to question him more about my dad but it was obvious that it was a sore subject for him. He headed into his office while I looked at what was on my plate.

My stomach gurgled as I lifted the chicken leg and took a big bite.

“Mmm this is good, my compliments to your chef,” I announced and heard Nikolai grunt.

“Guess someone pissed on yours,” I muttered sourly and heard him rolling his desk chair backward into the bedroom with the food tray balancing on his lap.

Glancing up at him, I noticed that he was chewing on a T-bone that hung from his mouth.

He ripped it away then eyed me.

“I'm trying to enjoy my meal, okay, chatty Cathy. I enjoy having my meals in peace; otherwise, I would be downstairs with my men,” he asserted. I took another bite of the chicken leg and nodded as I lowered my eyes from his intense ones.
