Chapter 2: Who Is My Father?

“It's very funny that you are asking that question mother, are you not the one who gambled away rent money for the house after telling me you paid it. For the past 8 months I have been living rent free until the landlord came this morning and told me what you did” she handed her the court paper for eviction.

Rena read it then handed it back “So you want to come live with us?”

Milana could not see a sign of remorse for what she did “Aren't you sorry, shouldn't you be sorry for what you did?” Milana said in anger.

Rena sighed “Fine, I'm sorry, it was a mistake but the landlord agreed to let go of the one year rent”

“After you slept with him” Milana said with a low tone, although her mother's actions are disgraceful, she certainly was not going to disgrace her in public.

Rena was silent

“Move out the way mother, I'm moving in with your guys until I sort myself out”

She tried to go in but her mother stopped her “You can't live here”

“And why is that, after what you did it's the least you should do and also we are family”

“I understand Milana but Landon and Leuren's father is not your father”

“So”

“Moving in will be a big burden for their father, that will be more expenses”

“I will buy my own food and pay a part of the electricity and water bill, all I need is just a roof over my head”

Rena became frustrated, she looked around and saw some of the neighbors outside “No Milana you can't stay here, you are an adult, you can fend for yourself” she said inaow tone.

Milana knew that among all her siblings she was the one her mother liked less, she was like an outcast even when she became the bread winner at some point, but she was still an outcast. Her mother never really cared about her, if she did she would have allowed her to at least come in to have a glass of water. She also was the one who had no single clue of who her father is when her other siblings already had their father.

“Mother, did I ask to be born?”

Rena was surprised by the question “Not now, you have to live Milana my neighbors are watching.

Milana smiled sadly “I have a question for you mother, a question I have always asked you, but today I want an answer not your usual silence”

Rena sighed “So what is your question”

“Who is my father, and please tell me who he is this time around” tears rolled down her eyes.

Rena was speechless and became lost in thought.

Milana watched her mother battle with her thoughts “I'm waiting mother”

She anticipated her mother's response but the look her mother gave made her scared and feel that it was not going to be good.

Rena shakes her head “I think it's best you don't know, just go and live far away as possible it will for your own good”

“What do you mean mother, I want an answer and I want it now no matter how terrible it will sound. Like you said I am an adult I will handle it. If he is dead you can just say, if he doesn't want me as his child you can also say it, don't just keep me guessing like you have done all this years”

“It's none of that” Rena said

“Then what mother, tell me” Milana's tears fell, she was already tearing up. As strong as she is, this was one topic that made her emotional, not having a complete parent made her always tear up when she thinks about it.

Rena breathed in and out “I'm sorry Milana, but you are a product of one night stand, I do not know who your father was. It was at a party when I got drunk and the next day I found myself without clothes in a hotel room and he was already gone. I also went to the hotel but they refused to give out information.

Then I found out I was pregnant a few months later, I went to investigate who the father is but nothing, even in the night club we had met I also knew nothing. I drank so much that I didn't even have a memory of what he looked like” Rena said in one breath.

“I am a product of one night stand?”

Rena nodded “I'm sorry Milana, this is exactly why I could not tell you”

Milana nodded “It explains why I have been treated differently all this years”

Rena frowned “Why would you say that?”

“Thanks for telling me the truth, mother and have a nice life,” Milana said, then dragged her luggage out of there.

She cleaned her tears, at least now she knew the truth and she could continue living with more determination.

Rena stood and watched her daughter leave “Am sorry but you can't know who he is for your own safety and that of ours” she murmured.

After she left her mother's house, she had called Belle and Belle had asked her to come to her place after she briefed Belle of what had happened.

Belle was shocked and speechless

The moment Belle opened the front door of her mini apartment she held Milana tightly in an embrace. She walked inside and they both sat on the same couch.

“How do you feel after confronting your mother”

Milana sighed “I feel relieved, although I had shed a bit of tears but now I feel relieved. I think knowing the truth and how my mum sees me in her heart will help me move forward.

“I know you to be very strong emotionally, but when it comes to your family you are weak, so of course you will shed some tears”

“Did you see your siblings?”

“No, I was not able, they already left to school by the time I arrived there”

Belle nodded, she held Milana's hand and assured her “You have me okay, and also you can stay here with me, you know I have been wanting you to live with me ever since”

Milana looked round her apartment and saw that it was big enough for two or even three people comfortably. Belle came from a family that is well off which is why she is able to afford to live in an apartment as beautiful as this and the location of the apartment was not far from the university.

“I will be really grateful if you could allow me to stay for a while until I get my own place.

Belle rolled her eyes at her “Why are you being so formal and why are you grateful. You can stay as much as you can Milana, you know I always wanted us to live together, you are like a sister to me”

“Thanks Belle, I need to go to the university now, the professor asked to see me and also I will go to my house to take some valuables then call some house service to pack the remaining things”

“Okay Mil, but you need to have breakfast first”

“No need Belle I do not have an appetite”

“You need to eat something so hold on while I make something for you”

Milana could not insist and just left her alone to make a late breakfast.

Later, she went to the university and headed straight to her faculty building but then the environment felt strange. It was oddly quiet. She could see students standing at corners in groups discussing while looking towards the corridor that leads to the professor's office.

She is not the type to stand and listen to gossip so she decided to head straight to the professor's office.

But then as she passed the students standing in groups, she noticed them move their attention to her and started whispering again.

She overheard some say “What is she doing, where does she think she is going to?”

She is not the type to care about things like this, but it feels so odd, like something had happened here or is happening and she was heading to the place it's happening.

She even had some students say “Doesn't she know Logan Donatello is here?”

She almost stopped to ask who that was, but then she received multiple notifications on her phone and she brought her phone out to check. And what she saw changed her mood completely, not like she was not expecting it but seeing the figures shocked her. She is on a scholarship but there were certain school fees she had to pay on her own. The notification she just got was the due date to pay those fees and she still didn't have the complete money for them.

She kept on reading the content of the message as she walked towards the professor's office, she turned towards his office corridor without looking and then hit something that was soft and felt solid at the same time, this made her phone and the documents in her hand to fall down.

“Oh no!” She picked her phone and documents from the floor and saw her phone screen cracked a bit.

That was when she looked up to see what she hit and it was a man in a well tailored suit with a well sculpted face and attractive blue eyes.

She stared at him and he stared right back at her.
