“He didn’t believe you, right?” Aurora turned around, only to find that it was her mother in-law standing in her door room frame.
“Oh mother! I honestly did hear you walk in” a surprised Aurora told her mother in-law, who stood there as sadness clouded her face. Aurora’s heart ached for signora Carina and even as she placed the last of her earrings onto her bedside table, she could not bear the thought of telling her the truth. “Sorry mother but he knew I was lying” Aurora confessed, determined not to tell another lie.
“I thought so, I apologize for putting you in such a compromising position. I do not know what came over me” Her mother in—law covered her mouth with her hands and began whimpering. Aurora walked towards her and wrapped her arms around the older woman, comforting her like she had wished she was comforted as a child.
“It is alright, you are trying your best,” Aurora whisp
Three days laterAurora had awoken once again but Leonardo had not slept beside her, even after three days he was still mad her for lying to him. Their interactions were more formal than what a married couple was like and there was nothing that she could do about it.Aurora had tried conversing but to no avail, as Leonardo had done whatever necessary to avoid her at every turn.“Are you feeling okay?” her mother in-law asked her, concern evident on the older woman’s face. Her mother in-law had taken her on yet another shopping trip throughout the town and honestly, Aurora was sick of it.“Nothing mother, I was just thinking”“You think too much” Signora Carina waved her off, dragged her to yet another high end store. They walked in and almost instantly a sales girl came to greet them.“Good afternoon Mrs. Romano, it has been quite some time”“W
The driver walked into the mansion, holding onto Signora Carina as though his life depended on it whilst Aurora watched from a close distance. Aurora’s hand covered her mouth as for her not to scream, she looked out for signs of Leonardo and he was nowhere in sight. “Please hurry up, we need to get her to her room before Leonardo sees her like this” Aurora whispered as she followed behind both the driver and her mother in-law. They walked into the main area of the house and still there was no Leonardo. “Okay let’s take her to her room” the driver escorted her mother in-law up the steps and Aurora followed behind them. “Stop right there!” Aurora, the driver and mother in-law stopped in their tracks, Leonardo’s loud and thunderous voice rang through the interior of the mansion setting fear into whomever heard it. She swallowed the lump in her throat as though she was swallowing a rock that blocked her airways and turned around slowly, with hopes of tryi
After sitting nearly two hours in the bathroom, Aurora unlocked the door and she smiled at the sight before her. Leonardo had kept to his word as she saw him lying right at the door, sleeping.Whether he was truly sorry about what he said, Aurora had no way of knowing, she was only married to him for a little under a week and so far their marriage was far from what one would call perfect. She leaned onto the door frame and observed the man that was now her husband after only meeting on their wedding day. Aurora crossed her hands over her chest and watched the rise and fall of his chest, his eyes shut tight giving way to his tired body. She tried to reach for him, in an effort to wake him up but she stopped herself. Touching Leonardo was something that she hated doing, the electrical pulse that she had felt once she had touched him a while back was enough a lesson for her.The feel of his hands on her had awoken something in her that Aurora had never felt,
“It’s always the beautiful souls who hide who they truly are and the hideous monsters on the inside that do all the flashing” Cory’s words rang loudly in Aurora’s head.“Yeah, they sure do”“I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable” he apologized, his apology coming as a surprise to Aurora, so much that she turned to face him.“No, you do not have to apologize to me for anything”“If you say so. I brought you here for you to see how beautiful things were and I just felt as though I have ruined things”“No you did not; I needed to step out too” Aurora sat on the grass, carefree and not worried that she would ruin her perfect designer dress by sitting on the green grass.“Aren’t you afraid that you would ruin your dress?”“Nope, I hate the dress anyways” she joked and just then Cory took a seat next to her on the grass.
“Why would you ask me that type of question?” Aurora asked him, trying to keep her composure.“I was just wondering if you are this kind and considerate woman that I see before me, you know? The one that watched out for my mother as though was her own mother or the woman that the tabloids speak about”Every breath that Aurora held in at that moment was released, she had never felt relief such as she was feeling at that moment. Leonardo had not figured out her big secret and that meant that she was safe for now.“Who do you think I am?” She surprised herself by asking her that, the corners of his lips curled into a smile once more, as he looked at her… almost as though she was the only girl in the world. She had never had a man look at her with such a look, with a glimmer in his eyes, a look that did not make her feel as though she was meat being fattened for a feast.“That is what I am trying to figu
The car ride was smooth, her window slightly opened, allowing the cool wind to blow through. Even though his eyes was on the road, from his peripheral vision Leonardo could see that Aurora was smiling. Her curly hair even though tied back, blew as the wind caressed her. His emotional outburst had been unexpected and sitting having breakfast with his family and acting as though nothing was wrong had been eating him up.The drive was definitely what he needed and who better to go with him than his new wife. He turned into the corner, off the asphalt road and onto the gravel road.“The road’s a bit bumpy, don’t you think?” she asked him but Leonardo smiled, his attention still on the road ahead of him.“I promise you, it will all be worth the wait” he answered her and for the next ten minutes the pair drove in silence until they reached a rusted gate with the sign ‘keep out’ written on it. Leonardo walked out o
“You look sad, beautiful lady” Old man Bernie stood next to her, as Aurora continued to study the picture of Old man Bernie’s wife.“I just missed someone who was close to me that’s all” she responded, her heart bleeding as she remembered her mother and even sadder that she could not openly speak about her mother.“No need to worry about anything, everything happens for a reason” Old man Bernie told her.“Yes you are right” she answered, flashing a weak smile at Bernie.“Now come on, no need to be sad when your husband is with you” Old man Bernie told her as he walked her away from the picture. Leonardo’s eyes held nothing but sympathy in them, something that Aurora was quite uncomfortable with.“What is that smell?” Aurora asked, smelling a pleasant odor coming from the kitchen.“Oh! That is my special soup, cowboy soup and you two will love it&r
Do not tell him, he will just laugh at you. Her mind taunted her and just like that, doubt crept into her mind. She looked away from him and looked beyond the window and she looked beyond all that was happening.Leonardo could feel it in his guts that his question had upset Aurora but he knew that he had to push through. He needed to know more about the woman that he was destined to spend his entire life with, the sooner the better.Taking his hand, placing it beneath her chin, turning her face to face him in his eyes and his eyes glittered and so did hers. You look so beautiful. He complimented her but only mentally, the thought of telling her all these sweet words scared him. They were just strangers and the sooner he realized that, the better for the both of them.“Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked him and for just a second, he was tempted to tell her how her beauty had trapped him in her web.“N
