Mate.

The one word resonated through Kendra's body as Kenzo held her chin up with his finger tips, his dark eyes boring into hers. Every fiber of her being was on fire. The electricity was no longer exclusive to the spots where Kenzo's skin met hers. The world seemed to fade away as their eyes locked. It felt like every ounce of breath had been forced from Kendra's lungs.

Part of her expected it to be like a fairy tale, where he pulled her against him and kissed her deeply. Where he shouted that she was his mate and offered to whisk her away. None of that is what happened. Instead, his brows furrowed slightly before he finally let go of her chin.

"You are impressive indeed. Truly one of a kind," he said, his voice a low murmur.

    She took a deep breath before pushing open the door, her limbs once again shaking. Inside the room was two men, and a woman. She was certain that the man in the middle, a man only a few years older than her, at the head of the table as they all sat around, was the King. He had shaggy black hair, and was lazily lounged out, with his feet in another chair. However, just as she realized that the wonderful scent of a warm fireplace seemed nearly overpowering in here, his eyes snapped up to hers, and she saw the depths of his amber eyes. Even if she found the idea ridiculous, she should have been kinder, or at least more respectful, of her mother and her choices.
