"Look at that, what a touching scene," Maria said conspiratorially, "Our little Alethea has finally found someone to lean on."
Elizabeth sneered, "Yeah, didn't think she had it in her. Edward Hart is a rare golden master, I wonder what tricks she used to hook up."
Alicia felt a surge of anger rise up, but she forced herself to remain calm. She gracefully straightened Edward's jacket, then looked directly at the two elders, her tone calm and firm:
"Dear Aunt Maria, Aunt Elizabeth, I understand your curiosity about my friendship with Edward. However, I must correct your misconceptions. Edward and I grew up together, and our relationship is pure and genuine, and in no way is it the kind of relationship you have IMAGINARY."
Maria grunted dismissively, "Don't pretend, Alicia. After your father's death, your family's status was in tatters. Now that you're suddenly so close to the Hart family's second son, aren't you just trying to climb up the power ladder?"
Alicia smiled faintly, a hint of sharpness flashing in her eyes, "Auntie, do you have some misunderstanding of the word 'friendship'? A true friendship does not change due to the rise and fall of a family's status. Edward admires my character and talent, not my family background. This may be beyond your understanding, but please don't use your way of thinking to speculate about others."
Elizabeth said pointedly, "Hmph, character and talent? Don't be naive, Alicia. In this world, beauty and body are a woman's most valuable capital. Do you think Edward really cares about your pathetic talent?"
Alicia's eyes became sharp, "Aunt Elizabeth, your words make me feel very sorry. A woman's worth is never limited to her appearance and body. I am proud of my intelligence, courage and tenacity, qualities that no material condition can cover or replace. If you believe that a woman can only achieve success by selling her body, then I can only say that you are insulting all women, including yourself."
Maria and Elizabeth were too shocked by Alicia's words to speak. Alicia continued:
"Edward and I have a friendship based on mutual respect and appreciation. We value each other's talents and character, not family background or appearance. This pure affection may be difficult to understand for people who are used to using relationships for their own gain."
She paused for a moment, then said in a firmer tone, "I don't need to rely on anyone for my livelihood or social status. I have my own career and my own pursuits. Even if I lose my family's aura, I have the ability to gain success and respect by my own efforts. That's true confidence and independence."
Maria and Elizabeth looked at each other in disbelief, clearly not expecting Alicia to come back so forcefully. Alicia took the opportunity to continue:
"I understand that you may be gloating about the situation our family is in right now. However, please remember that fate is constantly changing. Those who stand high today may fall to the bottom tomorrow. True wisdom is not to laugh at the misfortunes of others, but to maintain dignity in adversity and humility in good times."
She looked deeply at the two elders, "I hope you will reflect on your words and actions. A truly noble person will not use rumours and slander to belittle others. Instead, they will use their actions to prove their worth."
After saying that, Alicia gracefully yawned, "Excuse me, Aunts and Mothers. I wish you a good night."
She turned to leave, leaving behind a dumbfounded Maria and Elizabeth.Alicia's back was erect and confident, as if the conversation just now not only didn't hit her, but made her even stronger.
It was only after walking some distance that Alicia allowed herself to relax a little. She took a deep breath and felt the warmth from Edward's jacket. Despite the exhaustion she felt from the confrontation earlier, her heart was full of strength. She knew that she had the courage and ability to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
After the charity dinner, Alicia and her mother Eleanor got into the limousine to go home. It was late at night and the streets were sparsely travelled. Alicia leaned against the car window, thinking back to tonight's reunion with Edward, a smile unconsciously appeared at the corner of her mouth.
Eleanor noticed her daughter's expression and asked softly, "Looks like you had a good time tonight?"
Alicia looked back and nodded, "Yes, Mum. It was wonderful to see Edward again."
Eleanor smiled gently, "I'm glad to see you having so much fun, dear."
Just then, a black car suddenly came from the side at high speed and slammed into Alicia and their car. The huge impact caused the car to lose control and tumble down the road a few times before coming to a stop.
There was chaos all around them as passers-by screamed for the police and ambulances. Alicia felt a sharp pain and her consciousness faded. She struggled to open her eyes and saw her mother lying on top of her covered in blood, seemingly protecting her.
"Mum ......" Alicia called out weakly before losing consciousness completely.
When the ambulance arrived, both Alicia and Eleanor were in a coma. Paramedics carefully extracted them from the warped car and quickly transported them to the nearest hospital. In the hospital, Eleanor woke up earlier. Despite the pain all over her body, she insisted on visiting her daughter. With the doctor's persuasion, she reluctantly agreed to undergo the necessary tests and treatment first."Mrs Stewart, your injuries are not serious, but you need to rest," the attending doctor said seriously, "Your daughter's situation is more complicated and she is still in the intensive care unit. We are doing our best to save her."Eleanor's heart was like a knife, and she couldn't stop the tears from flowing down, "Please, you must save my daughter!"Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa on the other side of the city, William and Richard were raising their glasses in celebration."The plan went well," William said smugly, "That ungrateful girl should have shut up for good."Richard nodded, a sini
Over the next few days, Alicia's hospital room became a small parlour. Family, friends and business associates came to visit. Everyone acted concerned and friendly, but Alicia always felt a little uncomfortable. She began to scrutinise the expressions, words and actions of each visitor, trying to pick up clues.William and Richard were among the first relatives to visit. They brought expensive gifts and hypocritical care."Dear niece," William said with a beaming smile, "we are so happy to see you safe and sound."Richard nodded in agreement, "Yes, we were all terrified. I heard you lost some of your memories?"Alicia was keenly aware of the looks exchanged by her uncles. She decided to act like she knew nothing about the details of the crash." The doctor said it was normal and that it might take a while for your memory to fully return."William and Richard looked relieved. They exchanged a few more pleasantries and excused themselves, leaving Alicia alone with her thoughts. She was b
Eleanor was silent for a moment, then held her daughter's hand, "Alicia, this is truly an amazing change. But no matter what happens, you are my daughter. We will face this new challenge together."Alicia looked at her mother gratefully and a warmth welled up in her heart. With her mother's support, she felt more confident to face the uncertainty of the future. However, Alicia soon realised that this ability could be the key to uncovering the truth about the crash. She begins to carefully recall every detail of the night of the incident, trying to identify any clues that may have been overlooked. At the same time, she begins to use this ability to prepare herself for the future. She read a great deal of business and legal literature, committing complex concepts and terms to memory. She knew that knowledge was power in the coming struggle. One day, when Edward came to visit, Alicia decided to reveal the secret to him as well. She believed in Edward's loyalty and needed an ally she coul
Early morning sunlight poured in through the soaring glass walls of the Stewart Building, casting a soft golden glow over the boardroom. The spacious oval conference table was surrounded by executives in suits, who talked in low voices and glanced at the door from time to time, waiting for the main character of the day to arrive. The door was suddenly pushed open, and all eyes focused on the figure that walked slowly in. Alicia Stewart, the young heiress, stood there, her gaze firmly scanning the room. She wore a well-tailored dark blue suit that framed her slender figure. The trademark long blonde hair was neatly coiled behind her head, accentuating her angular yet soft face.Despite her long hospitalisation, Alicia looked refreshed, with a faint smile on her face and a glint of wisdom in her eyes. She walked gracefully over to the main seat, nodding her head gently in greeting before taking her seat."Good morning, everyone." Alicia's voice was clear and confident, "It is a pleasure
Alice was lost in thought when she suddenly heard the sound of soft footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw Robert Hudson, a senior figure in the company and a close friend of her father who had passed away."Excellent performance, Alice," Robert smiled, his eyes shining with approval and a hint of concern. "Your father would be proud of you."Alice smiled back, "Thank you, Robert uncle. I was just doing my best."Robert walked over to her and whispered, "Be careful, child. Your performance today was excellent, but it will also make some people uneasy. William and Richard won't give up their control of the company easily."Alice nodded, her expression becoming serious. "I know. But I have to do it for my father and the company."Robert patted her shoulder, "I'll do whatever I can to support you. But you'll need more allies. Remember, in the business world, information is power."Just then, Alice's assistant rushed in. "Sorry to interrupt, Miss Alice. The finance department jus
Alice sat in her father's study, surrounded by files and ledgers. The sunlight streaming through the half-open blinds on the window cast shadows on the floor, creating a pattern of light and darkness. The room was filled with a faint smell of leather and old books, reminding her of the days when her father taught her to read. The room had always been a sacred place for her father, and even after his death, Alice rarely entered it. But now, in search of the truth, she had to break this taboo. Her fingers gently caressed a thick ledger, which she had found in her father's safe. The safe was hidden in a secret compartment behind the bookshelf, and Alice might never have discovered it if she had not accidentally bumped into the mechanism. Her heart raced as she opened the safe, not knowing what secrets it would reveal.Opening the yellowed pages, she saw a string of numbers and company names. Alice frowned, the transfer records were complex and suspicious, involving several companies name
The coffee shop is located on the outskirts of the city, far from the noisy commercial district. It's a gloomy afternoon with dark clouds, as if foretelling an impending storm. The coffee shop is filled with the rich aroma of coffee, mixed with the scent of freshly baked desserts, creating a cozy yet mysterious atmosphere. Alicia is sitting in a corner, choosing a seat with a clear view of the entrance. She has applied light makeup today and is wearing a plain gray sweater and jeans, trying not to draw attention. Her fingers unconsciously caress the coffee cup in front of her, and her gaze occasionally glances at the glass door of the coffee shop. There are only a few customers in the coffee shop, some of whom are concentrating on their laptops, while others are speaking in low voices. Alicia tries to look like she is just waiting for a regular friend, but her heart is raging within her. Just as Alicia began to doubt whether George would show up, the door of the coffee shop was pus
Alicia closed her eyes, as if she could also feel the oppressive atmosphere of that morning. Her father's voice, the one that had always been so confident and powerful in her memory, suddenly seemed distant and vague."Your father's voice sounded urgent," George continued. "He said he had remembered some important things and wanted me to come see him immediately. I still remember the sound of his breathing being a bit hurried and the background noise of searching for papers."George paused for a moment, taking a sip of the already cold coffee. The bitter taste made him frown. "I told him I would go right away. But just as I was about to leave the house, I received a call from the traffic control center. They said... said your father's car had crashed on the winding mountain road."Alicia felt dizzy, and she struggled to control her emotions, but she still felt tears welling up in her eyes."I immediately rushed to the scene," George's voice became even lower, "and it was the most horr
