Roxanne awakens with no memory of her past, only the instincts of a wolf and scars that screams of a life on the run. Rescued after a near-fatal accident, she’s told she is the long-lost daughter of the Beta. At first, she believed them. But when she meets her fated mate, the Beta’s son, doubt takes root. Could she really be the lost daughter, mated to her elder brother? Or is this all a carefully woven lie by those she might have been running from?
View MoreAnd like a thief in the night, there was an ambush on us all. Desperate to survive, we all scattered, breaking into small groups led by someone who would guide them to safety and in my group, I was the leader.
Yes, my group was safe but the cries of the children were making it impossible to keep our cover. It started with distant growls getting closer, paws running to our very direction until I decided to go against my Alpha's directives and once again I was back on my paws, diverting them from the safehouse most of us were in.
“Roxanne lose them,” was the next command I heard and that was all I needed to know that my bait worked, everyone was safe and now I just had to get myself to safety, but I was wrong.
A sharp whizz cut through the air and before I could react, I felt a sting on my hind leg. I barely had time to register the dart protruding from my fur before my limbs went weak, followed by everything in my line of sight coming in doubles.
Still running, I shook my head a couple times, wanting to make sure I made the right turn when I got to the junction, but the further I went, I never saw the junction, and my vision got blurrier by the second and the next thing I felt was cold freezing water, drowning out the voices of my family and friends trying to check in on me.
~~~~~~
I thought I had died, until someone yelled, ‘Call the doctor!’
I forced myself up, groaning with each move, and after a while I was able to register four faces in front of me. The doctor stepped forward, asking if I felt fine, and surprisingly, I was. I was able to answer his first three questions until he asked one that caused a headache.
“What is your name?”
Seeing as I couldn't answer that, his next question came. “How did you end up in the Silver Lake?”
“What's a Silver Lake?” Was my response and the doctor nodded, facing the couple in the room instead of telling me what was wrong with my very own body. I couldn't take the hushed voices anymore and asked for the plain unfiltered truth, no matter how terrifying it may be.
“Miss,” the doctor started. “You are in the Silver Brother's pack hospital. You've been in the hospital for a week now since you were found in the Silver Lake…”
I was going to ask how I got there but seeing as they asked me the same question earlier it seems they didn't know the answer to that either.
“That’s not all,” the doctor said again, but he backed up for the couple, and the woman came forward, with a smile.
“You're our daughter. Your name is Roxanne, and you've been missing for nineteen years.”
A sharp ringing suddenly filled my eardrums, and I felt faint. The doctor immediately rushed forward, asking the nurse to inject me with something. Once I was calm, he faced the couple.
“Beta, I think we should go easy with the revelations. The silver is still in her system, making her weaker than usual even though she doesn't look it.”
I wanted to argue, to tell them I'm fine, but my body gave out that very second.
When I opened my eyes, there was another woman in front of me. I couldn't see her face clearly as it was hazy, but I felt her touch on my forehead, then a peck, and she whispered, “You can never forget who you truly are, Roxanne.”
She withdrew after those words, and it was like the heavy veil holding me to the bed was lifted. I sat up immediately, but she was already out the door. I was removing everything I was hooked up to just so I could chase her when the doctor came in.
I explained everything to him and he blamed it on the silver, causing hallucinations for me. But I was sure that there was no hallucination. I saw her, I felt her, I know her scent, but not even my said parents believed me.
Adding the initial one week I spent unconscious in the hospital, I spent a total of three weeks there, and the day I was to be discharged, gifts and well wishes were pouring in. Everyone in the pack now knew about the Beta's lost daughter, kidnapped before her first birthday, found at the poisoned lake, nineteen years later, and miraculously survived unlike many others.
“Home,” I said with a smile as I stepped out, ready to finally see the sweet room my parents had been raving about all these years but first, we had to stop at the pack house. The sweet Alpha of the pack threw me a small welcome back dinner, and as the guest of honor, I had to be there.
The Beta has an apartment in the pack house estate, so I spent my afternoon resting, until it was time. The moment we arrived at the dining area, all eyes turned to me and I forced a smile, feeling uneasy at the gazes on my body.
“Roxanne,” A man called my name first, reaching out his hand for mine and the moment I held his hand, the aura he excluded almost made me bow my head.
“Good evening, Alpha,” I greeted, recognizing him from the aura around him.
“No need to be so formal,” the Alpha chuckled as he led me inside. “Call me Uncle.”
The way he warmed up to me made my heart melt, and the unease I felt moments ago, vanished me as he introduced everyone present to me in the fun yet most interesting way possible.
His daughter, Nova, had the trait of making one feel comfortable just like her father because the moment she saw me, she was grinning from ear to ear, checking me out, and giving me the most compliments I had ever heard.
“You don't know how happy I am to finally see a lady my age around the pack house,” Nova said, asking me to sit beside her during dinner so we could get to know ourselves.
With a clap of the Alpha's hands, a line of maids walked in with food scenting as they descended from above. The way they served everyone at the table screamed orderliness, and once they were done, the Alpha asked me to take the first bite, since the dinner was to celebrate me.
While the elders were lost in their conversation, I was focused on Nova, who was telling me all about the variety of desserts she asked the kitchen to prepare as she didn't know what I would like. She fed me one dessert after another, and with every sweet thing my taste buds loved, my eyes shined brightly in approval.
After confirming the list of the desserts I liked, Nova took it upon herself to tell the kitchen to serve those in abundance and even make some for me to take home. While she was away, I went to my parents, wanting to know why the seat beside me was still empty.
“Isn't my elder brother here yet?” I asked, and Mom shook her head, showing me how she'd been trying to reach him for the last thirty minutes, but his phone wasn't connecting.
“What kind of brother doesn't check up on his little sister in the hospital and dare to come late to her welcome dinner,” I grumbled.
“Should we punish him for that?” The Alpha gave me a little nudge, and I chuckled, saying yes, and just as the both of us began to think of the best way possible to teach my brother a lesson, the doors opened wide.
“Speak of the devil,” the Alpha clapped, as a young man walked into the room. The first thing I noticed was his hair, dark just like father's, while his features, soft and detailed like Mom's.
“Mate,” I heard a faint voice inside my head, the voice of my poisoned wolf.
“Mate?” I fired immediately, thinking I had heard wrong, but my wolf repeated herself. “Yes, he is mate.”
Brayden“Why does she have to be so stubborn?” I grumbled, scooping up my mate who happened to be my sister, into my arms the moment she lost consciousness. Her body was too light, too fragile, and it made something deep inside me twist in pain.I told her not to do it. I warned her. But she didn’t listen. They never listen!My heart pounded in my chest as I rushed her down the hall, nearly tripping over the stairs in my haste. “Someone call the pack doctor!” I barked at a passing omega, who gasped at the sight of Roxanne’s limp form in my arms before running off. I didn’t slow down. I couldn’t. The hospital was just a short drive away, but every second felt like an eternity. I kicked the car door open, placed her inside as gently as I could, and sped off.She stirred slightly, her head rolling to the side, her lips parting as if she wanted to say something. But no words came. Just a faint, pained whimper that made my wolf claw at me, asking why I brought another lady to the house.“H
Brayden didn't respond. Instead, he handed me the paper, and I reached for it, scanning the words printed across it.I don't know what I expected to see, but seeing the confirmation that we were indeed siblings wasn't it. A tornado of emotions hit me at once, and confusion was number one. The silver must have messed with my wolf making her hallucinate or something. I can't be mated to my brother.“What do we do now?” I finally broke the silence, looking into his eyes. “Reject each other and forget this ever happened?”“Rejecting each other would uncomplicate things,” I said, seeing as Brayden didn't answer my question to reject each other. And he still didn't say anything.“I don't think that's a good idea. Your wolf is still weak. It could kill you,” Brayden finally answered. “We can reject each other once you're better.”I opened my mouth to say something, but I swallowed my words instead, a part of me happy that I had a little time to enjoy the sweet tingles of being mated to suc
“Impossible,” I mumbled, staring at my supposed brother. Thinking maybe I mistook someone else for my brother, I nudged Nova, the only one who had not left her seat for him. “Is that my brother?” “Yep,” she replied, oblivious to the confusion etched on my face.No. This couldn’t be right. He was supposed to be my brother. Not my mate. Or was the poison making my wolf daydream?“I can’t believe it’s really you,” my brother said, pulling me into a hug. The moment our bodies touched, I felt a zap of electricity in my body, resulting in goosebumps. My wolf stirred again and this time, her voice was stronger.“Mate. Must claim mate.”My hands, which were meant to embrace my long-lost brother, remained frozen by my sides as all I felt at that moment was confusion. Overwhelming, gut-wrenching confusion. He pulled back slightly, his brow furrowing as he looked down at me. “Roxanne?” I opened my mouth, but only one sentence came out. “Do you feel it too?”“Not here,” he whispered, signali
