We stood in the living room, our hearts hammering against our ribs as we watched the jewel. After what felt like an eternity, the sinister crimson glow began to fade slowly, returning to the soft, icy blue light we had first seen in the barn.

Outside, the sudden storm ebbed into a quiet drizzle, but the storm brewing inside our minds was far from over.

Night crept in, and we remained in the living room until nearly eleven o'clock, completely unable to focus on anything else. Unanswered questions hung heavy in the air, each more unnerving than the last.

Whom did this relic belong to? What kind of magic did it possess? And why was there not a single trace of its existence anywhere on the internet?

"It's as if this necklace was completely erased from history," George muttered, leaning his head back against the sofa, exhausted from hours of searching on his phone.

When it was finally time to turn in, we split up for the night. George and Amelia headed to the master bedroom at the top of the stairs, while Emma and I were set to sleep in separate rooms down the hall.

Before stepping into her room, Emma lingered at the doorway. She wrapped her arms around herself and looked at me with wide, anxious eyes.

"James... I'm scared," she admitted in a barely audible whisper. "I'm terrified of this necklace and everything that's happening right now."

I swallowed hard, feeling an overwhelming urge to pull her close and protect her. Forcing myself to stay composed, I gathered all the determination I could summon to reassure her.

"You don't need to be afraid, Emma," I said softly but firmly, locking eyes with her. "I'm right here. I won't let anything happen to you or anyone else. Leave the necklace with me tonight."

She nodded slowly, visibly relieved by my confidence.

Stepping into my room, I set the necklace on top of the nightstand beside my bed. The stone continued to cast its faint, chilly blue light into the dim room. I lay down, keeping my eyes fixed on the jewel until exhaustion finally won, pulling me under.

In the dead of night, a sharp, blood-curdling scream pierced through the silence of the house.

I snapped awake, my heart racing uncontrollably. I recognized the voice instantly—it was Emma.

I bolted out of bed, completely forgetting about the necklace on the nightstand, and sprinted down the hallway. I burst through her door just as George and Amelia rushed out of their room, equally pale with panic.

We threw open the door to find Emma sitting upright in bed, trembling from head to toe, her face deathly pale and drenched in a cold sweat.

"Emma! What is it? What happened?!" I asked, dropping to my knees beside her bed and taking her shaking hands in mine.

She stared at us with wide, terrified eyes, struggling to catch her breath before she could form the words.

"I... I had a terrible nightmare," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I saw an old tree... right near the barn where we found the necklace. And standing beside that tree... was a woman. A woman being burned alive..."

A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the bedroom.

George, who had been leaning against the doorframe, completely froze. All the color drained from his face.

"Did she... did she have logs of wood stacked all around her?" George asked, his voice unusually quiet and deadly serious—a stark contrast to his usual playful demeanor.

Emma looked up at him, startled through her tears.

"Yes... she did. How... how do you know that, George?"

George swallowed hard, glancing at Amelia and then back at me, his eyes filled with pure terror.

"Because I dreamed about her, too."

The revelation sent an icy chill straight through the room. A single nightmare could have been dismissed as stress or coincidence, but two people sharing the exact same vivid horror on the same night?

Fear settled over us, thick and inescapable. The necklace wasn't just showing us its light anymore... it was invading our minds.

We bolted out of the cabin into the pouring rain, our boots splashing through the rapidly forming mud puddles on the trail. The wind was howling through the trees, but our adrenaline completely overshadowed the harsh weather. The wild anticipation of crossing the portal together and finally unraveling the ancient mystery of the Queen of Goodness had our hearts pounding with excitement. However, just a few dozen yards before reaching the rocky slope where the cave entrance was supposed to have reappeared, I abruptly ground to a halt.Without a second thought, I threw my arms out and violently shoved the entire group backward, forcing them down behind a thick patch of wild bushes and towering pine trees at the edge of the woods."Ouch! James, what the hell?!" George hissed in an irritated whisper, wiping wet mud off his jacket. "Why did you push us like that?!""Shh! Shut up and look over there!" I whispered frantically, pointing a trembling finger through the wet leaves.Parked j

Desperation settled over the group instantly. We stood staring at the unbroken wall of solid rock covered in thick ivy, completely paralyzed by shock. There were no cracks, no hidden crevices, and not a single trace of an opening."This can't be happening..." I muttered, clutching my head as the ground beneath my feet felt like it was slipping away. "Could it... could it all have been a dream? A collective hallucination?"I turned to Emma, looking for any shred of reassurance."James, you know it wasn't a dream," she said, stepping closer to me. "You literally vanished right in front of our eyes! But... what if we only had one single opportunity to travel to the past?"Emma knit her brows, lost in thought. Suddenly, her eyes lit up with a spark of realization."Wait! What about the necklace? How does it feel right now? Remember yesterday? When we were heading to the cave, it was acting like a game of 'cold and hot'!"I quickly reached into my coat pocket and pulled out the relic, hold

Still kneeling on the damp floor of the cavern, we remained motionless, trying to absorb the sheer weight of everything I had just described. I walked them through every single vivid detail: the coarse clothing of the peasants, the ruthless grip of the armored guards, the regal dignity of the Queen of Goodness, and the ice-cold, merciless gaze of that terrifying Bishop.Emma, her face stained with tears and visibly shaken by my experience, held onto my hands with a desperate strength I had never felt from her before."James... please," she whispered, her voice trembling violently with concern. "Let's just go back to the house. We need to wash our faces, calm down, and you can tell us the rest in peace. I can't stand being inside this cave for another second."I agreed immediately, feeling my legs still weak from the temporal shock. With George’s help, I pushed myself up to my feet, and together, the four of us left the oppressive shadows of the cavern behind. The heavy downpour ha

The air inside the cavern seemed to grow thicker by the second. The glowing white stone continued to illuminate the jagged rock walls, making the hand-carved letters of the ancient inscription shine as if they possessed a life of their own.Driven by an irresistible, intense curiosity, I reached out my hand."James, wait!" Emma yelled, her voice laced with panic as she tried to stop me.But it was already too late. My fingertips brushed against the cold, mossy surface of the rock, landing directly over the carved word Queen. The moment my index finger made contact with the stone, a violent shockwave of electricity shot through my entire body. My vision blurred instantly, a deafening ringing filled my ears, and a sickening feeling of freefall swallowed me whole. In the blink of an eye, I vanished into thin air.Back inside the dark cave, absolute chaos erupted.Emma let out a horrified scream, lunging forward to the exact spot where I had been standing just a split second prior.

The rain pounded down with unrelenting fury, transforming the lush grass into a muddy slough and soaking us to the skin within seconds. Yet, the icy chill of the sudden summer storm was nothing compared to the sensation tearing through my hand.I was clutching the necklace tightly in my fist, but the relic remained abnormally freezing, sending sharp needles of cold shooting up through my fingers and wrist."I don't get what's wrong with this thing!" I yelled over the deafening roar of thunder, struggling to keep my footing as we sprinted. "Is it supposed to stay frozen forever? What on earth triggers these sudden changes?"In the middle of the torrential chaos, Emma looked over at my hand and gasped in utter disbelief."James, look at the necklace!" she shouted, her voice laced with panic as she pointed with a trembling finger. The heavy rain was pelting directly against the gemstone, and as the drops hit the surface, the menacing blood-red hue began to react in a bizarre, imposs

George hesitantly reached out, his hand hovering over the metallic casing for a moment before he brushed his fingertips directly against the pendant. Before I could even warn him or pull it away, he snapped his hand back in shock, letting out a sharp, surprised whistle."Unbelievable... it really is freezing," he confirmed, rubbing his fingers together as if trying to restore circulation. He stared at me with wide, disbelieving eyes. "It feels like I just touched a block of dry ice.""It makes zero sense," I muttered, shaking my head as I tried to wrap my rational brain around the physical impossibility of the situation. "With how stifling hot it is outside today, any piece of metal left in this environment should be burning up or at least warm to the touch. But this feels like it came straight out of a sub-zero freezer."We stood there under the towering canopy of the ancient, twisted tree in heavy, suffocating silence. The shadows stretched around us, and even though we couldn't
