The Love I Can Never Speak Of Again

“Sam’s been hardworking. If we give him a little more time, I don’t think he needs to be fired.”

My wife, Blair Reid, suddenly spoke up while searching for a file with her back to me in the storage room.

Sam Anderson was a new lawyer. He was Blair’s junior, so she had no choice but to guide him.

Initially, Blair was really dissatisfied with his performance. She felt that he was not professional at all.

However, one day, Blair suddenly praised Sam. She said that even though he lacked capability, his courage was admirable.

Since then, Blair kept mentioning Sam in our conversations.

Sam was very naive at work. When he lost a case, he would cry in public and apologize to his clients.

In the past three months, his performance had been practically nonexistent. Hence, his name was on the termination list. I was not surprised by that at all.

However, Blair brought this up all of a sudden.

I paused filing documents and asked, “You don’t want him to leave, do you?”

“That’s not it. How can that be possible?”

Blair refuted without any hesitation. She paused and continued, “Don’t you think that we’ve both become too calculating after spending so long in this business?

“Sam comes from a poor family background. If he loses this job, it’ll be very difficult for him.”

My heart sank.

Blair was never one to waste words. She was always scarily calm and collected.

However, she was suddenly being empathetic toward Sam. She was worried about Sam’s plight after getting terminated.

The reason why she brought this up to me must be because I had something that would be beneficial for Sam.

I had a very serious case on my hands, and all eyes were on it.

If Sam took it over, he would be able to turn things around. He would not only keep his job but also gain good exposure.

I looked down and closed my files hastily. I asked slowly, “If I pass my case to him, he’d definitely be able to stay. But you know I won’t agree to this.”

Blair frowned.

“Liam, don’t overthink it.

“After this case is done, let’s make our relationship public.”

After that, she turned around and placed her hands on my shoulders. Then, she planted an apathetic kiss on my cheek as if she was rewarding me like I was a dog.

I trembled.

Blair and I were married for seven years. In order to avoid any scrutiny, she requested to keep our marriage a secret.

Even though we were husband and wife, we treated each other like strangers at the law firm.

A lot of people thought that we had a bad relationship because we were always going against each other.

Now she suddenly wanted to make our marriage public. It should have been everything I had ever wanted.

It should have been a dream come true for me.

However, I was not happy at all. I felt my heart sink.

As expected, the next second, Blair took out a glass vial from her pocket. The black liquid in the vial swirled a little.

Blair stared at me intently. She didn’t explain what was in the vial.

“Sam’s gifted, Liam. I think you’ll understand that I only want to keep his talent in the company.”

After a while, I smiled bitterly.

“Blair, you’ve changed.”

She once said that people who were not capable did not deserve a spot next to her.

Since the day we met, she had been very stern and blunt about it.

I had a rough start in this industry. I had made a lot of wrong choices and suffered from many setbacks.

However, Blair had never reminded me or helped me before. She was always aloof and arrogant.

I worked very hard for a few months and finally managed to collect all materials regarding this case. I was only waiting for the court to commence and reap the fruits of my labor.
