Chapter 3

My heart sank when I saw her loving gaze toward Sam.

Before I came to my senses, the buff guy spat on the floor. He cursed at me.

“You always appear to be so righteous on TV, but it turns out that you’re useless! You escaped at the very last minute, and you’re here drinking instead!”

Compared to Sam, I appeared to be more despicable as a lawyer who left the case.

Everyone in the bar was looking at me in rage. They were yelling at me.

“Coward! You don’t deserve to be a lawyer. You claim that you’re experienced, but it turns out that you’re useless!”

“Look at that young lawyer on the TV. He’s so brave. If I were you, I would’ve killed myself out of embarrassment!”

I ignored their words and drank the rest of my alcohol in a big gulp. My stomach was twisting in pain. I felt the world warping around me.

On the TV, Blair was helping Sam answer questions and passing water to him. She wiped the sweat off his forehead.

I stared dumbfounded at Blair, who had never treated me that gently. I felt like a zombie as I watched Sam win the case using the materials that I had spent so much effort preparing. Everyone was applauding for him.

The people at the bar were cheering and clapping.

It was as if they were looking down at me, who did not fight back. They grimaced and peered maliciously at me. Some of them even bumped into me deliberately.

I checked myself into a hotel in a terrible state. I fell asleep immediately, and it was as if the past years were just a dream.

When I woke up, it was already bright outside.

I took out my phone and wanted to have a chat with Blair.

However, I saw a post Sam had shared on social media.

He had uploaded two photos.

It was obvious that someone else took the photos for him. There was a little bit of sweat on Sam’s nose, and he looked dashing when he refuted the argument.

It was obvious that the person who took the photo liked and admired Sam a lot.

In the next photo, he had his arm around Blair’s waist as they smiled happily.

The post had a caption.

[I’ve won the case! Thank you, Blair, for spending late nights helping me to prepare the materials and giving me a lot of support and motivation.]

[Blair says that she wants to promote me and take me around to meet other industry experts. I look forward to that! P.S. Thank you, Blair, for taking such a good photo of me!]

I kept rereading that caption to torture myself.

Every single word he had written pierced my heart.

Compared to their happiness, I seemed like an utter failure.

A tear trickled down my cheek and splattered on my phone screen.

I wiped the tears away silently and shut my phone.

After I calmed down, I drove home.

I packed all my belongings. Before I left, I placed a divorce agreement on the coffee table.

When I was about to open the door, Blair walked in.

She was chatting happily with Sam. When she saw me, her smile faded.

She said indifferently, “You’re back, Liam.”

Then, she frowned and covered her nose. She said in annoyance, “Did you drink last night? Haven’t I told you that drinking will dumb down your brain? As a lawyer, how can you drink?”

Sam pointed at my suitcase next to me and said in shock, “Liam, are you going away for work? Blair said that your throat isn’t well. Can you go on a work trip in this state?”

Blair’s expression changed and immediately darkened.

She pushed me aside and looked into our bedroom. Then, her eyes widened in shock as she exclaimed, “What do you mean by this? Are you throwing a tantrum and threatening to leave?

“Liam, it’s just a case. It won’t affect your promotion.”

She took out the promotion agreement.

“I’ve even prepared a surprise for you. Are you still mad after seeing this?”

She looked confident and unfazed.

It was as if she was in court and not at home.

To her, maybe I was not a husband but a defendant.

I did not speak at all.

I looked down and took the agreement that most lawyers would kill to have.
