CHAPTER 4: Something To Offer, Something To Gain

Layla's POV

I suddenly wheeled around as the hand clamped down firmly on my wrist. If I had already found my wolf, I would have attacked, and I would have stroked out immediately but on the contrary, I was quite weak as compared to the man's monster energy.

I turned and found myself staring into those ocean blue eyes and what was that on his face? A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips.

“Let me go!” I screamed and immediately swung a punch at him with the other arm but he caught my hand effortlessly.

Who was I kidding? He was an Alpha! I had heard him addressed as Alpha and that alone was reason enough to distance myself from him. I had had my fair share of Alphas and the trouble around them.

“Calm down, will you?” He spoke calmly as if he was just relaxing in front of a TV with a beer in hand.

Calm down? Never!! I screamed inwardly as I still struggled against his grip.

“Help!” I yelled at the top of my voice. “Somebody help!!”

It wasn't long before the door flew open and the hotel's male attendants came barging in. It seemed they always had issues like this or so I thought with the way they came charging in but then I saw them come to an abrupt stop.

“Alpha… We didn't..” The men only stammered in sheer fright.

What was going on?! Who was this man?! He didn't do so much as speak but the men were cowering before his presence already!

The men were already retreating when a team of guards immediately entered and shoved them out of the room. Before the last man would leave, he turned and bowed politely.

“I'm sorry, Alpha.” He apologized. “The men went for a breakfast break. You won't be interrupted again.” He hurriedly left, shutting the door behind him.

The Alpha who had uttered no single word when this all went on, turned slowly to face me again.

“You don't need to be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you.” He said.

Even if he wanted to hurt me, I realized that there would be nothing I could do! I would try to put up a fight but that could only make him angrier!

He slowly released my hands and I shrunk away immediately, massaging my wrists to get the blood flowing well again in the areas he had held in his vice-like grip.

“Who are you?” The question stumbled out of my mouth as I looked at the man before me in awe and alarm.

“Pardon my manners.” He smiled and made a small bow of the head. “I am Alpha Derek Bloodwood.”

Of course!!! Prince Derek!!!

I stared at him with my eyes bulging and nearly falling out of my sockets. I have heard about Prince Derek of Bloodwood. I've heard about his deeds, the playboy prince who loved doing everything in his own way. I've heard all the stories too about how handsome he was and to be honest, those stories didn't do justice to the man before me.

“Careful now.” He laughed, flashing that set of dazzling white teeth in the morning light. “Any Moment from now you'd be picking your jaw from the floor.”

I immediately realized that I was staring wide-eyed with my mouth wide open so I immediately composed myself. That was a stupid thing to do, I was stupid.

“How… but…” I stuttered, trying to find the right words to convey whatever I wanted to say even though it eluded my tongue.

“Stay calm.” Derek spoke calmly as if speaking any louder would send me scampering off like a forest animal. “I know who you are.” He said.

I immediately frowned.

“You know nothing about me!” I snapped angrily.

“On the contrary, I do.” He said firmly. In one breath, he quickly went over my whole life even down to my divorce which just happened yesterday!

“I did my homework when you were sleeping.” He smiled proudly.

“What do you want with me?” I finally found the courage to ask. “Let me go. What we had last night was born of recklessness and nothing more! We have nothing in common!”

“I think you'll be very much interested in what I have for you.” He replied with a smug smile on his lips.

“Which is?” I asked.

“Come back to Bloodwood pack with me.” He said casually.

I scoffed.

“Why would I do that?”

“Because I'll help you take revenge on those who have hurt you.” He replied.

I froze immediately after I heard those words and he knew he had struck a nerve so he smiled and leaned closer.

“I'll help you make them pay for all they've done to you.” He whispered. “Every, single one of them.”

My heartbeat immediately increased drastically. This wasn't what I had in my plans! If my plans had gone well, by now I would even be dead. All plans were to kill me after this one-night stand but here I was, being offered the very thing I couldn't resist!

“feel free to refuse.” He spoke up when he noticed my hesitation. “I wouldn't want…”

“I accept!” The words stumbled out of my mouth suddenly, catching him off guard. “In exchange, you will help me get what I want!”

His lips curled up into a thin smile immediately.

“Just as I thought.” He said.

***

The roads went on and on and I was bored to death at the back of his car. Derek sat in the passenger seat while a man who I assume to be his Beta drove. They were engaged in a conversation but they talked only about boring topics like pack politics and all.

I sat there in silence, caught up in my own thoughts. Alpha Derek was yet to reveal his intentions and I was foolish not to have asked! I still didn't know what he intended to do with me and why I must follow him to his pack. Perhaps I was a little blinded by the idea of revenge.

Just when I thought I'd die of boredom, the car arrived at the front gates of the Bloodmoon Pack and I immediately sat up nervously.

Derek was immediately cleared at the entrance by the guards and the car glided into the pack. I looked around in awe of the modern Designs of the buildings. I was never one to panic in the face of an audience but when the car finally stopped in front of a big white building I assumed to be the pack house, I suddenly became nervous.

“Welcome to Bloodmoon. My home.” Derek smiled as he held the door open for me.

I slowly stepped down from the car and he offered his hand. I hesitated for a moment but then took his hand, allowing him to lead me through the double doors of the pack house and into the hall.

“You're gonna be okay.” He whispered and squeezed my hand a little.

We walked in and straight towards the throne where his father, the Alpha King, sat grimly.

“Father!” Derek called in a clear voice as he approached the throne with me by his side.

I noticed that the man wasn't really interested in his son's greetings. His eyes seemed to pierce through me and his brows crunched up as if he were thinking. I suddenly felt uneasy and was almost on the verge of turning away from the hall when suddenly, the man gasped.

“Derek?” He called. “What are you doing with her?!”

Okay that was a hurtful question. What did he mean?

“What do you mean father?” Derek asked. I could tell from his tone that he was as surprised as I was.

“Oh Derek you ignorant boy. She's your step-sister!” The man cried out in alarm…

CHAPTER 139Layla's POVThe grand council chambers of the Bloodwood Pack House buzzed with a nervous energy that was almost palpable. The room, usually reserved for the most solemn of occasions, was filled to capacity. Alphas from the allied packs, their faces a mixture of exhaustion and grim determination, occupied the inner circle of seats. Behind them, the revered Council Elders, their expressions grave, sat with an air of ancient wisdom. In the very back, a scattering of Beta's and trusted warriors stood, silent witnesses to the unfolding history. The air was thick with the scent of pine and old parchment, mingled with the earthy aroma of dozens of powerful wolves.Derek and I entered together, a phalanx of guards silently parting before us. As we reached the raised dais at the head of the room, a hush fell, the murmuring dying down to an expectant silence. Every eye in the room was on us. On him, the victorious Alpha King. And on me, the Luna Queen who had banished a goddess.

It was a sound that scraped against my very soul, resurrecting ghosts of a past I thought I'd buried. “Never to you, Layl

The enemy, broken and scattered, fled like rats from a sinking ship, their dark magic dissipated, their will shattered. One moment, we were locked in a desperate struggle, the next, the tide had turned with a violent, irreversible surge. It felt like the ground beneath us had tilted, sending our foes tumbling into the abyss.“Pursue them!” I bellowed, my voice raw but strong, slicing through the lingering din of battle. “Leave none to carry tales of their failure! Let their retreat be a rout!”My warriors, fueled by adrenaline and victory, needed no further urging. They surged forward, a relentless wave of fangs and fury, chasing the last pockets of resistance deeper into the surrounding forest. CHAPTER 135Layla's POVMy heart, already a bruised drum in my chest, leaped with a fresh, desperate hope. Reinforcements. Real reinforcements. The silver tide that had begun to trickle in from the south now surged, a torrent of armored forms, their howls ripping through the smoke-choked air. From the west, a deep, resonant roar Derek’s roar, unmistakable even through the chaos heralded the arrival of the Snowrest Pack.“They’re here, My Queen!” Rowan’s voice, hoarse but jubilant, cut through the din. He stood a breath away, sword still dripping from his last kill, his eyes wide with a mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration. “Just as he promised!”I could only nod, my throat tight. The sight of them hundreds, thousands, pouring into the city like a cleansing flood was almost too much to bear. They moved with a disciplined ferocity that my dwindling, weary warriors could only dream of. Swords flashed, spears pierced, and arrows rained down in deadly volleys. For so long, we had fough
