I sat beside Julian at the long table, my hands folded in my lap. Across from us, five council members watched with expressions that ranged from concern to disdain.

"Alpha Julian," Councilman Reeves began, his voice measured. "We've heard troubling rumors. Whispers that the Luna has been unable to conceive despite years of treatment."

Julian's jaw tightened. "Those whispers are private matters."

"Private matters become public concerns when they affect the pack's future," Councilwoman Harlow said. "The Alpha bloodline must continue. If you cannot produce an heir, the council must consider... alternatives."

I felt every word like a blade,Alternatives. They meant replacing me. They meant finding someone who could give Julian what I couldn't. Margaret sat at the far end of the table, her expression cold. She didn't speak or try to do anything to defend me,she just  simply watched.

"I am aware of my responsibilities," Julian said, his voice tight. "And I am handling them."

The council exchanged glances. Then Reeves leaned forward. "We need proof, Alpha. Not promises. Proof."

The meeting ended without resolution. But the damage was done.

That evening, I walked past Julian's study and heard voices. I stopped, the door was slightly ajar, and through the crack, I could see Julian standing by the window, his back to Lena, who sat in the leather chair with her hand on her belly.

"I never wanted to hurt her," Julian said. His voice was low, tired. "But I need this child, I  need an heir."

Lena was quiet for a moment. Then she asked, "Do you still love her?"

The silence stretched. I pressed my hand against the wall to steady myself.

"I don't know," Julian finally said. "But I can't stop thinking about her. Even now. Even with you."

My heart cracked open. He still wanted me. And I still wanted him. And it didn't matter, because he had already chosen someone else. I walked away before they could hear my footsteps.

Later that night, I found Julian in the kitchen. He was standing by the counter, a glass of whiskey in his hand, staring at nothing. He didn't hear me come in not until I was standing in front of him.

"Is it true?" I asked. My voice was steady and Cold.

He looked at me, his eyes guarded. "Is what true?"

"That you're going to send me away once the child is born."

The silence was enough answere. But he spoke anyway. "It's for the best, Elara. You'll be taken care of. A cottage in a remote territory. A monthly pension. You won't lack anything."

I felt something inside me snap. Not my heart that had already broken. Something deeper,Something that had been holding me together for three years.

"I hope you're happy, Julian," I said, my voice quiet and devastating. "I hope this is all worth it."

He flinched for a moment, I saw something in his eyes, guilt. But it was gone im no time.

"Elara…”

"Don't." I held up my hand. "Don't say my name like it means something. Don't pretend you care,You've made your choice. Now live with it."

I turned and walked away. That night, I sat alone in my small guest room, my hand pressed to my belly. The baby was still there, Still growing. He wants to send me away, I thought. But I have a secret he doesn't know about and when the time comes, I'll make him pay.

  • The Luna he discarded    chapter 67: the rejection

Elara's POVJulian ran after me and clutched at my boots like a drowning man clinging to driftwood. His fingers dug into the leather, his nails scraping against the worn material, his breath coming in gasps. He was sobbing loud, sobs that shook his entire body and echoed through the empty hall. He pressed his forehead to the cold stone floor, his shoulders heaving, his voice rising in a broken, desperate plea."Please, Elara. Please. I'll do anything. I'll give you anything. Just please please don't leave me alone.""Julian," I said, my voice quiet but steady. "Let go of me."He didn't listen. He just held on tighter, his fingers digging into my boots, his sobs growing louder."Please," he wept. "Please, Elara. I know I don't deserve it. I know I don't deserve you. But I can change. I can be better. I can be the man you fell in love with. Please please give me another chance."I stepped back. His hands fell away from my boots, his fingers grasping at empty air. He looked up at me, his

  • The Luna he discarded    chapter 66: the empty throne

Elara's POVThe grand hall of the Silver Moon pack house was silent.I walked through the doors with Kaelen at my side, my footsteps echoing against the stone floor, my heart pounding in my chest. The hall was empty,no guards, no servants, no council members. They had all fled, abandoning their Alpha to his fate. The only sign of life was the figure slumped on the dais at the far end of the room.Julian.He sat on his Alpha throne, his body slumped, his head lolling to one side. He was dressed in what had once been fine clothes silk and velvet and gold embroidery but now they were stained and rumpled, reeking of whiskey and sweat. His dark hair was matted, his jaw unshaven, his eyes bloodshot and unfocused. He was holding an empty glass in his hand, staring at nothing, muttering something under his breath. He didn't look like an Alpha. He didn't look like the man who had beaten me, broken me, destroyed everything I had ever loved. He looked like a ghost. A shell. A pathetic wreck of a

  • The Luna he discarded    chapter 65: March on silver moon

Elara's POVThe army marched at dawn.I rode beside Kaelen, my silver pendant gleaming against my chest, my hands steady on the reins. Behind us, five hundred wolves of the Blood Moon Pack marched on,warriors in ceremonial armor, healers with their supplies, scouts on fleet-footed horses. We were not an invasion force. We were a liberation army. And we were marching to end a war that had lasted far too long.Kaelen glanced at me, his silver eyes soft. "You're quiet this morning.""I'm thinking," I said."About what?""About what comes next. About what we'll find when we reach Silver Moon. About whether the pack will accept us or fight us."Kaelen's expression hardened. "They'll accept us. They have no choice. Julian has destroyed everything they once trusted. They're starving, leaderless, and terrified. We're offering them a way out.""And if they don't believe us?" I asked. "If they think we're just another pack of conquerors?"Kaelen was silent for a moment. Then he spoke, his voice

  • The Luna he discarded    chapter 64: the fall of Margaret

Julian's POVMargaret died in my arms before dawn.I held her body long after her last breath faded, my hands trembling, my mind blank. The vault was cold and silent, the only sound the distant drip of water somewhere in the darkness. Her blood had soaked through my clothes, and I could smell it,the scent of death that I had grown so familiar with over the years. She was gone. My mother was gone. The woman who had raised me, who had shaped me, who had believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself she was dead. And I was alone.I don't know how long I sat there, holding her, rocking back and forth like a child. The hours blurred together, the darkness pressing in on me from all sides. I thought about everything she had said, about Vanya's betrayal, about fixing my mistakes, about letting go of Elara. I thought about the years of disappointment in her eyes, the lectures I had ignored, the advice I had dismissed. I thought about the last words she had ever spoken to me.Fix this, Ju

Vanya's POVI had won. Again.Margaret lowered the dagger, just slightly, her eyes still cold but now tinged with something that might have been curiosity. "Tell me what you know," she said. "And I'll consider letting you live."I smiled, my heart pounding with relief and triumph. "Elara is not just a Luna," I said. "She has power. Real power. Silver light that can freeze wolves in their tracks. She used it during the battle,I saw it with my own eyes. She's something the Moon Goddess blessed. Something ancient. And Kaelen knows it. He's been training her, protecting her, using her as a weapon."Margaret's expression didn't change. "I already know that. Tell me something I don't know.""She has a secret," I said. "Something she's been hiding from everyone. Something that could destroy her if it got out.""What secret?""I don't know," I admitted. "But I know it's there. I've seen the way she guards her past, the way she flinches when anyone asks about her childhood. She's hiding someth

  • The Luna he discarded    chapter 62: vanya's desperate gamble

Vanya's POVThe pack house was silent, and I was running out of time.I had spent weeks watching Julian drink himself into death, watching the council plot behind his back, watching the pack fall apart piece by piece. I had seen the writing on the wall long before anyone else. Julian Sterling was finished. His child was dead. His wife was in a coma. His pack hated him. His ledgers were gone. And the Blood Moon Pack was marching toward Silver Moon with an army at their backs.I was not going to be here when they arrived.I had spent the last three days planning my escape. I had stolen a map of the territory, marked the patrol routes, identified the weakest points in the border defenses. I had packed a small bag with essentials clothes, food, water, a knife. And I had hidden it in the stables, ready to be retrieved when the moment was right. But there was one thing missing. Money. I needed gold to buy my way into the rogue syndicates, to pay for passage across the sea, to start a new li
