Sara stood in the corner of Kyle's private chambers, a wooden bucket in one hand and a rag in the other. Her arms ached from scrubbing the long corridor outside his room alone.

The air in this part of the castle felt different. It wasn’t damp like the dungeon, but cold and dry, and it carried a certain stillness that hinted no one with a heart could call this place home.

Well, at least she was out. Not free, but out.

When she overheard the healer talking about her, Sara thought her freedom had finally come. But all the woman had spoken was nonsense.

Sara didn’t know what any of it meant. She didn’t know much of anything anymore, except that she had gone from prisoner to laboring prisoner.

Kyle hadn’t said a word to her since giving the order. He’d had her dragged upstairs, thrown into his service, and then acted like she didn’t exist.

But she wasn’t nothing. She could feel that now, stronger than before. She didn’t know why, but somehow, she felt better.

She looked around the chamber.

  • The Luna's Cursed Mate    Chapter 024

Sara opened her eyes slowly, blinking against the light filtering through the curtains. Her head still ached faintly from last night’s confusion, and her chest felt like something had curled up and gone to sleep inside it. Her mind was full of questions. Questions about Tamara, about Kyle, and about herself. Was she going crazy? She turned to the side and paused. There were two boxes on the bed beside her. Both were neatly wrapped in matte silver paper and tied with thin black ribbon, and they sat there like gifts from someone who didn’t want to be thanked. A folded note rested on top of one. Sara’s brows creased as she sat up and picked it up. She opened it slowly, feeling nervous. -Christmas event by 12. Be there on time.- That was all. No greeting, no name, not even a smiley face. It was cold, clipped, and commanding. Underneath the paper was a pair of shoes and a necklace. Did Kyle send this? She wondered as her fingers curled slightly around the paper. Whoever sent th

  • The Luna's Cursed Mate    Chapter 023

It was nigh time and the only source of illumination came from the flickering candles on the stone walls and a single lamp at the center of the long, narrow table. Thick maps and folders were spread out across its surface, each one marked with red ink, black dots, and hastily scribbled notes. Kyle preferred it this way. This was an ultra-secret task, so he preferred to do it this way. He stood at the head of the table, tall and silent, his arms folded across his chest as he stared down at the map of their territory. His jaw was clenched tight and his eyes shot daggers. He didn’t like what he was seeing. He didn’t like any of it and more than anything, he wanted to put a stop to it. Tran, his war chief, was pacing slowly to the side, his heavy boots hitting the floor with quiet thuds. Huntsman, Kyle’s oldest advisor and most trusted mind, was seated to his right, flipping through a worn leather folder with narrowed eyes. Beside the door stood Kyle’s personal guard, the man silent a

Sara stood frozen in the middle of Kyle's room, her hands hanging uselessly by her sides. The door had slammed in her face just seconds ago, but she could still hear the “BANG!” loudly in her head. Dangerous. He had called her dangerous. What did that even mean? Her eyes darted around the room, as if trying to find something that would make sense of what was going on. She felt like the fabled Beatrice in strangeland the more she thought about things. None of this was normal, right? She wondered. The room was soaked in complete silence. Her lips trembled. Why did it feel like she had been doing everything wrong lately? Even breathing! “Tamara?" She called softly. "Tamara, please... if you're still here, just say something." There was no answer for a moment. Then a voice came gently, quietly, from behind her. "Sorry, I'm here." Sara yelped and turned around quickly, holding her chest in shock. There she was, Tamara. Standing by the far wall like she hadn't just vanished

Kyle was silent for a moment, still standing by the table, his hands curled slightly at his sides. His breathing was steady, but the sharpness in his eyes hadn't dulled since Karissa left. How on earth had Sara known about Tamara? Sara, obvious to the turmoil in Kyle’s head, swallowed and asked again, more gently this time. "Why did you stop her?" He turned to her slowly. "I didn't want Karissa to do something she'd regret." Sara blinked up at him. “Regret? She looked ready to tear me apart. And it’s not like we’ve been best of friends.” Kyle nodded. “In the heat of rage, people do things they can't take back. And Karissa... she's already done enough damage in her life. I wasn't about to let her add another body to her list."Sara stared at him, confused.“But… what about me? Did I do something wrong? Why was she so upset?”Kyle didn’t answer. Instead, he walked toward her, his eyes locked on her face. There was a trace of anger in his expression.“You confuse me,” h

For a moment, everything was quiet. Kyle didn’t answer right away. His jaw clenched, and he turned slightly, folding the bloodstained cloth in his hand as if he hadn’t heard Sara’s question. But he had. He heard every word. The truth was, he wasn’t even sure of the answer himself. He’d grown used to the violence, the death. It came with the curse. But after she had stopped it once… it felt odd. Unsettling. He turned back to her.She hadn’t asked with disgust. She hadn’t raised her voice. Her question had been soft, calm, but curious. And somehow, that made it sting more. Ever since she arrived, he had only turned twice. After that, the killings had become like a mundane obligation, rather than pleasurable actions to carry out. His voice came low as he met her eyes, glaring at her. “Do you think I enjoyed it?” Sara quickly lowered her gaze, unable to hold his.“I… I don’t know,” she murmured. “You don’t look very sorry about it.”Kyle’s mouth twitched, and he dropped the clo

  • The Luna's Cursed Mate    Chapter 019

Sara blinked against the soft morning light filtering through the curtains, like gentle fingers tugging her from sleep. She sat up, stretching her arms and rubbing her face, her mind still foggy. For a moment, she stared at the empty space beside her.No Tamara. Her brows drew together.Had she imagined last night? The way Tamara had come into her room and woken her up just because she was lonely? They had even had a conversation before she went back to sleep? Did she dream all that up? Sara shook her head, then paused. “Tamara? “ she called, “Where are you?” Just then, she could smell lavender. Tamara’s scent. She knew that it hadn’t been a dream. She stood up from the bed, her bare feet touching the cold stone floor. Her eyes drifted to the bathroom door, half-open, with steam curling out through the crack. Perhaps Tamara was inside? Just as Sara walked closer, Tamara got out, already dressed in her usual clothes. Her hair was damp, and she looked refreshed, but a little distr
