Muttering incoherent words in her sleep, Hazel wiggles from one side of the bed to the other, sweat oozing out of her body in streams, soaking her lacy nightwear and bedcovers.

Her face pulled together in a frown, her eyes spasm frantically under her eyelids as she clutches the bedcovers with both hands.

Traces of burns appeared on her right breast under her cloth, forming a rose flower-shaped design; in the middle of the rose flower, another diamond-shaped design and a half moon appeared floating. They moved about and around the flower before eventually settling in its middle.

As the diamond and moon glowed red, Hazel let out a pained scream from her sleep, her toes curling, alerting both her parents, who rushed in to see their daughter clutching her chest while screaming.

"What is going on?" Amanda asked, as strings of curses escaped Eric's lips as he beheld the sight before him. He rushed to his daughter's side to see what was happening but quickly backed off at the heat radiating off her.

She screamed again, thrashing on the bed as her eyes glowed red, veins popping out from the sides of her head.

This time it was more of a screech than a scream, causing her parents to cover their ears in fear and horror.

"What is going on, Eric? What is happening to her? Why is she like that?" Amanda asked, at the brink of tears, looking from her husband to her daughter.

"Fuck! I don't know!" He cursed, pacing back and forth beside Hazel's bed. He tried getting close one more time, but the heat increased, burning his palm.

He stopped in his tracks before rushing to his study, remembering the instruction that was given to him years ago.

"When you notice any kind of abnormality, inject her with this. She'll be fine," the person had instructed.

He rummaged through his drawers and bookshelves in a hurry, looking for a certain black rectangular box with a weird crest on it.

He had hoped, for the sake of his daughter, that there would never be a day he'd have to use the unknown substance in the injection.

"Where is it? Where is it?" he asked as he threw books and vases out of the shelf in search of it. As he picked up the last book and realized it felt heavier than it looked, he opened it and saw the rectangular box lying inside the hollowed-out book.

"If this gets into the hands of the wrong people, your daughter would die. There is only one of this ever made, so be careful where you place it; be careful whom you tell about it. If possible, don't ever mention it to anyone," they had warned him before handing the box over to him.

He let out a sigh of relief and ran back to Hazel's room with the injection in hand. Biting his lips, he endured the scorching heat that radiated off her and injected her with the red substance in the syringe, waiting patiently to see any differences.

"What is it made of, and why should I use it on my daughter?"

"What is it made from is none of your business, Halton. You would know why your daughter needs it when it is time. We shall meet again."

"Wait! Why should I trust you!"

"You shouldn't."

The screaming stopped not long after; her hands fell to her side as she passed out. The heat dissipated as the flower, diamond, and moon disappeared, leaving her skin clear and without blemish.

"Eric, explain to me what's going on. What is happening to Hazel?" Amanda asked solemnly, her voice shaking in fright.

"I don't know, Amanda. I swear I don't know. I honestly didn't know what was going on with her," he confessed truthfully, silently begging her to believe him. His hands caressed Hazel's head as it rested on his lap.

"What do you mean you don't know? Didn't you inject her with that thing? How do you know the cure if you don't know the sickness? Eric, do you think I'm a child? Do you think I can't see you've been hiding things from me since Ruby ran away? What exactly is going on? What have you gotten yourself and my kids into with your damned research!" she screamed, her voice growing higher and higher as she grabbed his pants while on her knees.

She couldn't afford to lose another child—not again.

Eric remained silent, unmoved by his wife's screams and tears, as he watched his daughter's breathing return to normal.

‘What have I gotten myself into? Why didn't I stop when I still could?’

"Tori and Beth, right?" Dylan called as he spotted the two walking toward the parking lot.

"Professor Dylan," they greeted. Tori desperately tried to hide her starry eyes and bright cheeks from being too close to her newest fascination behind Beth, who rolled her eyes at her and stepped forward.

"Hello, ladies. I have noticed Hazel hasn't been attending classes these few days. Is there any problem? She didn't call in sick either," he explained calmly, going straight to the point.

The two shared a glance before Beth replied, "We were planning on going over to her after classes today. We haven't heard from her either, and that's unusual. She doesn't go this long before giving at least one of us a call, and it's been almost a week now."

"Has it?" Dylan asked. "Then please inform me when you get any news about her. There might be a test next week, and I wouldn't want her to miss it." He smiled and continued walking to his car.

"Oh my gosh!" Tori squealed excitedly. "He sounds so sexy!" she gushed, holding her flaming cheeks.

"Yeah! Yeah! We know. Come on, let's go visit Hazel. I still have to go to my part-time job later," said Beth with a bored tone as she dragged her fangirling friend towards her car—not before giving Dylan one last meaningful look.

"How do I look?" Hazel asked as she twirled around in front of Tori, Ruby, and Beth. The three gave her a thumbs up with beautiful smiles. The wedding dress hugged her curves perfectly, accentuating her beauty."You look stunning, Hazel!" Ruby exclaimed, tears welling up in her eyes as she pulled her into a side hug."I was so nervous when they wouldn't let you try on the dress until today, but now I love it!" she continued. "Those two really dote on you. I'm so happy for you. I can't believe I'll watch my sister get married off so soon."Tori and Beth nodded in agreement, their faces beaming with smiles."You deserve all the happiness in the world, Hazel," Beth said, giving her a warm hug. "You've been through a lot, and you deserve this much and even more.""I know, right?" Tori exclaimed. "When some of us are still looking for one, she smashes two sexy-looking and powerful men. I'm jealous.""Pfft, there's nothing to be jealous about," Beth replied. "Aren't you also seeing someone

"What are you going to do to me?" Amanda asked as she woke up to see the twins' Alpha standing over her while she was chained down to the chair."We need to ask you some questions," Leonardo replied. "And we are hoping that you don't make things too difficult."Noting the seriousness in his voice, Amanda let out a small laugh. Rather than it being amusing, it sounded sad and defeated. She sat up, adjusting herself as she nodded for them to continue."I'm going to assume you want to know why I sided with Lilith," she said with a knowing look. Dylan nodded as he shifted the other seat in the basement so he could sit directly in front of her.She paused, looking directly into his eyes before letting out a sigh."Well, I don't mean to disappoint you, but there aren't any profound or soul-melting reasons behind my actions. I needed power, recognition, and money, and Lilith was my best bet at it," she shrugged, making the Alphas frown."That doesn't make sense," Leonardo replied. "You are h

"I'll take it from here," Leonardo mind-linked Silver as he gently nudged her to the side. "You've done your part. Now let me do mine as your mate."Silver whined but said nothing as she walked towards the unconscious Jade."Thank you," Alan whispered while holding his sister's head on his lap."I didn't do it for you," Silver replied. "She was really in pain. And being forced to do things isn't easing the pain.""You felt her pain?""I don't know why, but yes." Silver sighed. "I could feel her in my head, similar to that of a mare, but it's also quite different," she explained. "It probably had to do with the fact that she had a part of me in her."The room fell silent as they watched the altercation between Lilith and Leonardo. Silver scrunched up her nose in disgust while watching Lilith grab Kaia by the neck.Slowly, Kaia began to disintegrate into specks of dust-like particles and connect with Lilith as one being—Kaia had only been Lilith's clone all this while.Meanwhile, the un

"Silver!""Hazel!"The group's eyes widened in alarm as Jade lunged at Silver with unnatural speed, making it hard for the twins to react in time. Her focus was on Silver as her hands stretched out to grab her by the neck."Jade, stop!" Alan shouted, but his sister didn't seem to recognize him.Silver stood her ground, her eyes locked on Jade's as she prepared to defend herself. Jade's hand came in contact with her neck; she narrowed her eyes without even flinching as Jade's hand tightened around her neck."She's in pain," she muttered."Are you out of your mind?!" Leonardo exploded as he yanked Jade away from Silver and threw her across the room. "Why would you just stand there and allow her to grab you by the neck?"Silver's calm eyes met Leonardo's frantic ones. She sighed and rubbed her neck before replying to him."I wanted to see how far she would go." Her voice was steady, but Leonardo's eyes narrowed, his gaze burning with concern."Don't ever do that again," he growled, his v

"I understand that you would like to keep your sister safe," Silver muttered. "But she is a weapon that's created to kill us all. How do you expect us to rest easy knowing she's alive somewhere, ready to have our heads?""I'll look for a solution, something that can help keep her on a leash," Alan argued. "I understand this is too much for me to ask, but...""There are no buts," Silver sighed as she cut him off. "We'll decide what happens to her when we see her. Making promises before we access the situation won't do us any good.""With that being said, we have to bring her here before Lilith knows what's going on," Leonardo added. "For now, she's probably still after you while keeping her eyes on us. Since both the artefact and you are important for her plans to work.""To make sure she doesn't succeed, we'll remove your sister from the lab she's locked in and bring her here. Her being here will allow us to monitor her and decide her fate," he explained calmly. "At the same time, it

"Which one of you switched out the soul-trapping orb?" Lilith sneered as her bloodshot eyes, filled with anger and hatred, darted between Kaia and Amanda. "And don't you dare give me the crap about it not being switched out!""You can't possibly think we could do it, right?" Amanda asked with a scoff, trying her best to hide her nerve-wracked state. "Why would we do something like that when we are on the same page?""You tell me?!" Lilith sneered, her aura getting colder by the second. "You tell me why either of you would do it.""I didn't do it," Kaia shrugged with her hands up. "If I did, you would find out anyway. What's the point?""Are you implying that I did it then?" Amanda countered as she glared at Kaia."Did you not?""I didn't do it! What would I do with it even if I did swap it out?" she asked, trying as much as possible to shift the blame away from herself.Seeing how Lilith's aura continued to darken by the minute, she could tell that if she was found guilty, her life wo
