Chapter 80. Lucien POV
Something snapped deep inside my soul tonight. Snapped and then re-formed as something based completely around Bella and her wolf. Not just a jigsaw piece I was like a piece of metal, melted down and recast into the form of a new man.
I don't think Bella realised that as I brought her to the brink of devastation with my mouth I was unable to stop my own release from exploding.
It was too much sensation, licking and sucking her soaking, drenched pulsing core. Tweaking those delicious rosebud nipples, her skin in the moonlight did something primal to me. I saw stars as she shuddered into her private world, the connection sending my body into overdrive.

We were woken by a sharp rapping on the door. Lucien sprung off the bed in full protective mode. I sat upright wrapping the blanket around my chest. Lucien stood peering through the spyhole in the door trying to ascertain the knocker. It was quite the sight considering he was still completely naked, I got a fabulous view of the back of him. The wideness of those broad shoulders tapering down to hips, every inch of the journey a series of muscular bumps and ridges. After his sculpted rear, he widened again to the thickest, juiciest thighs I'd ever seen. He realised his situation and turned his head back to me. I was busy staring at his thighs he had to cough to prompt me to look back at his face. "Sorry," I spluttered as he grinned, his eyes crinkling in amusement. The door banging again broke our gaze as he quickly shouted to the closed door. "Yeah?" "You are to head to the library immediately, as requested by Alpha Alexander and Luna Helena."

We broke apart as the door opened and both Helena and Alexander walked into the room. Considering two nights ago he was almost dead he was practically skipping now. His cheeks were flush with health and only a small huffing of breath gave away his recovery. Helena beamed at him, lead on his arm she flowed in wearing a long formal gown. No more hiding in the royal suite, she wanted people to see them, recovered and happy. I wondered how she was feeling behind the regal glow. "Well?" Lucien barked, breaking the silence between us. I jumped in surprise at the harsh tone of his voice, he was full of surprises today. Although not touching we stood close together. His arms were folded across his huge barrel chest, perhaps trying to remind Alexander that he had him beaten the last time their paths crossed. Helena gestured for us to sit at one of the large reading tables. A nod at Beta Jackson and the door was closed behind them and presumably guarded him in case

By the time we were back on the road, there was an unspoken tension between the two of us. Leaving Silver City behind we should have been lighter, happier but there was a weight upon us. Like a curtain being drawn between us, my understanding of his character seemed to be decreasing.Lucien had a grey t-shirt on and dark blue pants that finally fit him properly. I was in a black tunic and leggings. I was surprised to be pleased to shed the gowns I had been wearing in the castle, they only served to remind me of a former life that was no longer mine. The rugged, outdoors, hiking in regular clothes was what I wanted now. It sounds pompous but the gilded treasures of Luna life really didn’t appeal anymore. Once more I cursed myself for allowing Bram to convince me they did matter.The sound of gravel crunching under our feet was the only sound for a while. Birds flew above and I wondered how many people found their mates and felt worse about themselves the next day.

There were a few reasons behind summoning Bella and Lucien this morning.Firstly Alexander was conscious, he woke with the sun that morning eager to get back to normal. Amazingly, his wound was completely healed, far beyond anything shifter healing can normally accomplish considering the depth and severity.Secondly, I’ve had another vision. The night before I thought it was just a pleasant dream but it came again last night running exactly the same. I couldn’t wait to tell Alexander about it but I knew he was uneasy with the assassin still being in the castle.Whatever I said couldn’t shake his dislike of him. I wonder if it was because he owed him his life. It is not often an Alpha, king of all around him, must owe his life to a criminal. The fact Lucien was not a member of his pack and therefore paid his no deference annoyed him too.We knew we couldn’t send Bella straight back to prison, not without being completely heartless.

Lucien sullenly disappeared soon after arriving at the cabin, on the pretence of gathering more wood. I didn’t say anything, he was obviously trying to prepare his words. It pained me to see him struggling with his history. His own guilt is holding him back from being true with me. To take my mind away from worry I organised the supplies once more. How familiar this little wooden shack felt now. I knew all the cupboards, the linens and the feel of the bed. The ways of the fireplace and how to balance the poker so it sat just right against the mantlepiece. Little touches that make a place feel homely. Maybe it is the time spent in a cell, nothing is your own then. You are stripped down to the core husk of you as a person and expected to deal with it. Hoisting me onto the bed was another completely different Lucien to last night. Instead of the raw animal lust of the mate bond our wolves were not at the forefront. Instead it was us Bella and Lucien laid together.Still clothed we were wrapped up tightly in each others arms on the bed. His fingers stroking gently up and down my spine whilst I stroked his neck.For hours we talked. Our families, home life, favourite things, what we missed. He told me all of Felicias quirks and charms. I told him silly tales of how I met Kyra. We were truly bonding. Stories about first shifting, the random places you would end up after going on a run and getting lost.Gradually his mood lightened and we were soon joking together. The sorrowful look had been replaced by hope that maybe we could help him find peace.

We held hands tightly in silence all the way there. Entwined together like ancient tree branches. There was nothing to say that we hadn't covered last night. I had imagined every possible scenario for how this meeting would go. I remembered her parents from some of the Full Moon Balls. They were fairly plain but both shared Grace’s pale blue eyes. They had lived in Silver City then, as soon as Grace had been mated to Bram they had been allocated a town house in the centre. Apparently Grace had been a regular visitor to them. I once saw them walking around the market square just outside the castle and felt a wave of guilt. Of course the times she went for these visits were the same times Bram visited me. I often dreamed that Bram encouraged her visits, so desperate to spend time with me, it made me feel special. From my room I could see the castle courtyard and I would watch her head off, blonde hair bouncing and flowing as the crowds gave way for her.
