Chapter Forty Six: Gone Without a Word

Evric’s POV

The morning sun had climbed the edge of the sky, but something didn’t feel right. I had been awake since dawn, sitting at my desk, trying to focus on the scrolls and reports in front of me, but my mind kept drifting.

The room felt colder than usual. The silence wasn’t peaceful—it was heavy, like the calm before a storm.

I hadn’t seen Selene. Not this morning. Not even last night.

Usually, I would catch a glimpse of her in the garden or near the East Wing hallway. Even when she tried to avoid me, I could always sense her around.

But today… nothing.

I rose from my chair and stepped out into the hallway. “You,” I called out to a passing guard. “The girl—Selene. When last did you see her?”

The man looked confused. “The girl in the East Wing? I—I haven’t seen her since yesterday evening.”

A chill crept into my chest.

I called for two more guards. “Search her room. Now.”

We walked quickly. My boots echoed down the halls, and with every step, my chest felt tighter.

The guards opened her door. The room was quiet. Untouched. The bed was neatly made. The blanket still folded.

“Nothing here,” one guard said.

I walked in slowly. Her scent was faint, like it had been days since she left. The window was locked. No sign of struggle. No clothes in the wardrobe. Nothing.

She was gone.

And it wasn’t by accident.

I stood in the middle of her room, trying to stay calm. My mind went back to the last time I saw her. That night I visited her room… she had acted strange. She avoided my eyes. Her voice was distant.

I thought she was tired. I thought maybe she was scared because of how close we were getting.

But now… now I saw it differently.

She had been planning something.

“Check the garden, the training grounds, the kitchens,” I ordered. “Search every corner of this house. No one leaves until we find her.”

The guards ran off.

I stayed there, staring at the place where she used to sit by the window. The spot where she once smiled—soft and quiet—like maybe she was starting to trust me.

My fists clenched.

Why did she leave?

After everything I did for her? After all the times I protected her, gave her comfort, tried to understand her?

Was I just another captor in her eyes?

A knock at the door pulled me back.

“Come in,” I said.

Sasha walked in, looking worried. Her eyes searched my face before she spoke. “Evric… I have something to tell you.”

I turned to her, already feeling the headache building behind my eyes.

“What is it?”

“It’s about the prisoner,” she said, stepping closer. “Ronan. He’s missing too. He’s the one always supporting Selene, do you see him here? Is he here to cause trouble because of Selene?”

I stared at her. “What?”

“He’s not in the cell. The guards said the door was unlocked, and no one knows who did it. He’s gone.”

The room spun for a second.

Selene and the prisoner… both gone?

Together?

My hands gripped the edge of the desk. “Are you saying she… ran away with him?”

Sasha shook her head. “These two are trying to play games, what did they think? That they could runaway? They are funny, and all jokes on them”

“No,” I said sharply. “She planned this. I know it now.”

Her eyes dropped to the floor.

“I should’ve seen it,” I muttered. “She was acting different. She barely spoke. Her hands were shaking that night. I thought she was just scared of me. But she was hiding something.”

Sasha looked up again. “Do you want us to send out scouts? Because even without that we could get them, just a call to all elders, we would get them here in a minute, or should we send people out to search for them”

“Yes,” I snapped. “Now. Send them to every border. I want them found.”

“Yes,.”

She left quickly.

I sat down on the bed, running my hand over the cold sheets. I thought of her eyes—those soft, deep eyes that always held pain.

I thought I was helping her.

Maybe I wasn’t.

Maybe I reminded her too much of the people who hurt her.

But this… this betrayal—this silence… it cut deep.

I didn’t even know who this Ronan was.Do they have an history together? Does he want to take away Selene from me? I’ll search and investigate and I’ll make him regret his action or so…

Now, it seemed like he had stolen something more than freedom.

He had taken her.

And I had let it happen.

His lips parted like he wanted to say something gentle—but his jaw was firm. He looked past me, at the line of soldiers and Alphas standing before us.“I have to,” he said quietly, then louder, “She’s with my baby.”The world stopped.Even the forest held its breath.Sasha’s face dropped, and even Evric’s proud expression changed for a second. His lips twitched. His hand balled into a fist by his side.I could feel Ronan’s hand trembling slightly in mine, but he didn’t pull back. He stood strong. Chapter Forty Nine : Caught in the StormSelene’s POVThe night felt heavier than usual. The forest around us was quiet—too quiet. I laid my head on Ronan’s chest, feeling his heartbeat. It was strong, steady, and calming. He stroked my back gently, whispering something about how we’d be okay, that we’d find peace soon. I wanted to believe him.My eyes were closing slowly, the warmth of his arms lulling me to sleep. Then I heard it.A snap. A footstep. Leaves rustling.Ronan stiffened beneath me. His hand paused. I opened my eyes.“Did you hear that?” I whispered. He nodded once, then moved me gently to the side. He was already reaching for the small bag we carried — the one with herbs and a little food. • The Luna’s Return   They Are Here

Chapter Forty Eight : They Are Coming for UsSelene’s POVI rested my head on Ronan’s chest. His heartbeat was strong and steady. His arm was wrapped around me, keeping me warm. We were hidden in a quiet part of the forest, near a small stream. The fire had burned out, and only the smell of smoke lingered in the air.The wind was soft that night, brushing against the leaves like whispers. I closed my eyes and let myself breathe slowly. For the first time in a long while, I felt safe. In his arms, I wasn’t the scared girl from before. I wasn’t the daughter of a cruel Alpha. I wasn’t the unwanted mate of a king.I was just Selene. A woman. A soon-to-be mother. And I was with the man I loved.Ronan ran his fingers through my hair. “You should sleep,” he whispered.“I can’t,” I said softly. “My mind is full.”He looked down at me. “Still worried?”I nodded. “Do you think they’ve forgotten about us?”He didn’t answer. His eyes looked far away, as if listening. Then I heard it too.A snap.

Chapter Forty-Seven: If You Find Her, You Find My HeartEvric’s POVThe room felt too big. Too quiet. Too empty.Even though I already knew she had gone, I still looked around like a madman, hoping maybe I’d missed something. Maybe I’d open a drawer and find her bracelet, or catch her scent in the sheets, or hear her laugh from down the hall. But all I heard was silence. And all I felt was pain.I gripped the window frame and looked outside. The wind was cold this morning. The sky was cloudy. My breath fogged up the glass, but I didn’t care. My chest was too tight to breathe right. Every second that passed made the space where Selene used to be feel even more hollow.I couldn’t stop thinking about her—how she used to look at the door before she spoke, how her fingers fidgeted when I stood too close, how her voice always sounded like she was holding something back. I thought I had time. I thought she’d learn to stay. But I was wrong. And now she was gone. With him.I turned away from t
