Selene’s POV

I didn’t know how long I sat on the floor.

The room was quiet now, but my body still shook.

The tears had dried—but the pain stayed.

It clung to my skin like chains I couldn’t pull off.

I wanted to scream.

But I was too tired.

I just wanted to disappear.

Then I heard the door open.

I didn’t bother to look. I didn’t care who it was.

Let the whole world come and see me like this.

Broken. Ashamed. Alone.

“Selene…”

Lucien.

His voice was soft—too soft. Like he already knew.

And maybe he did.

He closed the door behind him and walked over slowly, like he didn’t want to scare me.

He crouched beside me.

Said nothing at first.

I didn’t look at him.

I couldn’t.

Because the moment I did, the tears came again.

I didn’t want to cry. I had promised myself I wouldn’t cry anymore.

But they came fast. Ugly. Loud.

The kind of cry that comes when your soul finally gives up.
