Chapter 2

Author: Stars
When I thought about their twisted faces from my past life, my fists clenched on their own.

But the Moon Goddess had given me a chance to start over. I wasn't going to repeat that tragedy.

Before coming back, I had already sent word to a witch deep in the forest. By tomorrow, she would deliver the potion to sever my bond with Joey.

Since Joey still couldn't forget Courtney even at the moment of his death, I would grant him his wish.

I walked up to Courtney and studied the fragile-looking she-wolf in front of me. I smiled faintly and said, "You must be the acting Luna Joey chose. You're very pretty, and you suit him well. Why don't we…"

I hadn't even finished saying "break the mate bond."

Joey rushed over as soon as he heard the commotion and pulled Courtney behind him.

"What are you trying to do to Courtney?"

I had barely survived and returned alive, yet there was no joy in his eyes. Instead, there was only bone-deep coldness.

Out of habit, he shielded Courtney behind him and instinctively bared his sharp wolf claws at me.

Only when he noticed how badly injured I was did a flicker of pain cross his eyes.

His tone softened slightly. "Rosalind, I know you've suffered. But Courtney is the acting Luna I brought in to take care of Russ. You can't use your authority as Luna to bully her."

I hadn't done a single thing, yet Joey was already convinced I was the one hurting Courtney. Who mattered more to him was painfully obvious.

"That's not what happened…"

Before I could explain, a sharp pain shot through the back of my hand.

Russ's pointed wolf fangs sank deep into my skin. Blood ran down my fingers and dripped onto the ground.

He released me and stood in front of me, glaring with hatred.

"Who are you? How dare a beggar like you bully my mom! You'd better grovel and apologize to my mom, or I'll let you feel how sharp my fangs are!"

The fearless way he stood there really did resemble an Alpha heir.

It made memories surface against my will.

The pack had rules. To become an Alpha heir, one had to pass brutal trials.

That year, Russ was only five. The elders dragged him to the training grounds for testing. No matter the heat or wind, he wasn't allowed to rest.

My heart ached watching him.

So every night, I trained with him. I ended up covered in bruises from sparring.

Joey would carefully apply ointment for me, holding me in his arms as he said softly, "Having a mate as gentle and devoted as you makes this life worth it."

Russ used to cling to me as well, calling me the best mom over and over.

That warmth felt as if it were still right in front of me. Yet after just three years apart, everything had changed.

Joey had a new she-wolf and had completely erased me from his heart. The techniques I personally taught Russ were now being used against me.

A bitter ache rose in my chest.

But with the lessons from my past life, I didn't scream or make a scene. I calmly accepted it all.

I looked at the family standing in front of me, all wary and guarded, and said evenly, "You've misunderstood. Joey, I didn't come back to compete with Courtney for anything. I came to break our mate bond."

When Joey heard those words, something unreadable flashed through his cold eyes.

Before he could say anything, my mother grabbed my hand. Her eyes were filled with tears.

"No way! You and Joey are destined mates! You've loved him since you were little. How could you possibly break the mate bond?"

You deserved everything that happened to you."Joey scrambled over to me on his hands and knees, begging desperately."No, there has to be another way! Your uncle cares about you so much. As long as you ask him to send troops to help me fight the Skyreach Pack, we can still win.""Why should I help you?" I asked coldly.Joey pointed at Russ. "Even if

Joey froze. He had never seen me like this before. The pressure I gave off made even him feel uneasy, as if he was meeting me for the first time. The gentle, devoted Rosalind, who always put her mate and pup first, was gone without a trace. The moment my words fell, the wolves around us stirred."That's right! You barged in uninvited! It seems that you really don't respect our pack at all.""Get out of here! Now!"The shouting grew louder and louder, and Joey looked flustered. At that moment, Courtney suddenly stepped forward. Her eyes filled with tears as she looked at me, as if I had wronged her terribly."I know this is all because of me. You hate that I took your place, but Joey and Russ are innocent. Please don't make things hard for them."As she spoke, she pulled out a small vial and looked at Joey through her tears."Being able to meet you in this life is already enough for me. I hope you and Russ can live well. I'm willing to die to make that happen."Courtney's acti

Life in the pack was great.I began learning how to be an excellent healer and represented the pack at conferences with other packs. It was exhausting, but I enjoyed it. Only through this work did I truly learn my worth. The busy days gradually helped me forget the unpleasant memories from Joey's pack.So when Joey showed up out of nowhere, I was momentarily stunned. That day happened to be the day I was officially appointed as head healer. My father hosted a party and invited many guests to celebrate my induction.I had officially become a respected healer in the pack.Just as everyone was immersed in joy, a familiar voice suddenly echoed across the altar."Rosalind, how can you be so heartless? You even abandoned your mate and your son!"Everyone turned toward the sound. Joey was standing at the entrance of the altar, holding Russ in his arms. The werewolf I once loved with my whole heart now looked unbearably ugly to me.When my father saw Joey and remembered the sufferin

The cab had been waiting at the gate for a while.I walked out without looking back. Just as I opened the door to get in, Joey chased after me."Rosalind, if you leave, what about Russ? He's still so young! How can he be separated from his biological mother?"At those words, Courtney's face went pale. She tightened her grip on Russ and refused to let go.To her, Russ was the future Alpha. As long as she had Russ, she had power and status.Seeing the panic on Joey's face made me think of this same moment in my past life. Back then, Joey had said almost the exact same thing to me.At that time, I went to the Pack Elders to demand justice. Forced into a corner, they had no choice but to pressure Joey and order Courtney's exile.Yet, Joey only looked at me with cold indifference."Even if Courtney is only acting Luna, she made major contributions to the pack while you were gone. She didn't do anything wrong. Why should she be exiled?"And besides, Russ already sees her as his moth

I took off the Sapphire Moon ring from my hand and passed it to the person delivering the potion. "This is the payment I promised. Please thank the witch for me."After saying that, I tilted my head back and drank the potion in one go.The medicine took effect almost instantly.A bitter taste flooded my mouth. It felt as if ants were chewing through every inch of me as sharp, unrelenting pain ripped through my body.I clutched my chest and dropped to my knees, my expression twisting uncontrollably.Everyone present was stunned. Not a single person dared to make a sound.A faint ache spread through Joey's chest, confirming that the potion I drank was real.I had actually severed the mate bond with him. After the long wave of pain passed, my body felt lighter than it ever had before. I stood up and looked at everyone coldly."I've never cared about fighting Courtney for the Luna position. Before I ever returned to the pack, I had already asked the witch for a potion to break the

I ignored Courtney's provocation and went back to my own place to change into clean clothes. The moment I stepped outside, a cloud of dust flew straight at my face. My freshly changed clothes were instantly coated in dirt.Russ stood in the backyard garden with a group of friends, throwing mud at me."You witch! Serves you right for bullying my mom!"Sand got into my eyes, making it hard to see. Taking advantage of that, they started throwing rocks at me, cursing as they did.I forced my eyes open and saw the bare garden. There was nothing left but gravel and dust. My chest tightened. This had once been a beautiful field of blue roses. Joey planted them after we became mates because he knew how much I loved them. He said blue roses symbolized love that never changed, and he promised he would protect this garden forever. But just because Courtney was allergic to roses, he burned every single one we planted together. From then on, not a blade of grass grew in this backyard.
