Violetta's POV.

I felt my breath freeze in my lungs at the immediate sight of him.

Of course, I could recognize him instantly. He had saved me from getting hit at the ceremony. And now, he was back again.

“Violetta,” he called my name again. His voice ran deep into my head, awakening the confused and quiet soul in me.

My eyes finally rested on him as I stared. But my lips couldn't move for a rest. His palms were still stretched out too, waiting to get a response.

Suddenly, after a much delayed response, he finally placed his palms on mine and drew me up to my feet. I winced at first because he had placed his hands on the injured part of my hand. However, it wasn't up to a minute when I felt a sudden shift inside of me, and I gasped for breath immediately.

“My hands,” the words mumbled out of my lips as I continued scanning, turning to both sides. I wiped my eyes double again, another measure. And I was right. The blood had dried up, and the injury had healed up too, all because of him.

I turned to stare at him. His eyes were on me with his face curled up in a slight smile.

“Thank you.” The words freely left my lips even if I was completely shy standing in his presence.

“You don't need to thank me.” He responded. It was supposed to be unsettling, watching how his eyes almost bored into my soul. Yet, I found it different. It was completely mesmerizing to stare back at his hazel eyes, filled with more warmth than I could ever imagine a person having.

“Mind if I do something?” He questioned, his voice rearing its head above the silence, which was about to soak us in.

“What is it?” I asked. Unfortunately, I didn't get a rest until he did what he wanted to do.

I almost let out a scream when he carried me into his arms, and like a flash of lightning, he teleported right to the rooftop of the mansion.

He let me down the moment we got there. And I was so lost in the beauty of the magnificent view that I forgot I had almost gotten a heart attack from the teleportation.

“Wow.” The words left my lips as I kept on staring. It felt empowering to me, having a clearer sight of every other mansion, home, and place that seemed far away from ours.

It felt as though I was having a direct sneak peek into people's lives.

“This is my favorite place. I come here whenever I feel there's a need to let a large burden off me. Or, even, to blow off some steam.” He began to speak.

“You come here to blow off some steam?” I asked again to be sure I had heard him right.

“Yes.” He turned to look back at me, his eyes slightly widened.

I paused, my heart suddenly thumping and a high wave of heat crashing down my body.

I didn't think he was going to be bold enough to spill out certain secrets as such on our first meeting.

“Hold on. Why is your face that way?” He pointed.

“What is wrong with my face?” I asked, using my hands to feel it as if I could tell the expression from that.

“It's crying down in so much redness as if you've been holding down a lot of anger. Or, are you angry?” He asked immediately.

I let out a deep sigh and looked away in silence for a few minutes.

“You say you come here to blow off steam. Do you realize what that means?” I asked.

“Yes,” he dragged out his response, his eyes slightly squeezing shut as if he was suddenly unsure of his response.

“Eww.” My face turned red, and my guy tightened in disgust.

“Don't you think that is too personal to share with someone, especially if you're meeting me for the first time? And why on earth would you bring me to the same place?” I couldn't wait for him to prove me wrong.

A scoff escaped his lips while he stared in mixed feelings of surprise and confusion.

“I think I'm more confused at this point. Why should that be something of a secret?”

I stared wide-eyed, my hands running up to my waist. I gasped and scoffed, confused and more irritated about how else I was supposed to explain it to him.

“Hold on. What exactly do you think it is to blow off steam?” He stopped me before I could speak.

“What else is it supposed to mean if not having sex with someone?” I shot out, my eyes almost bulging out of their sockets.

“And gosh! To even think that you have to do it on a rooftop. No proper planning.” I went on saying, the disgust and disappointment still evident in my voice.

His loud laughter, which followed next, shocked the bones out of me. I listened and watched as his voice filled the entire rooftop. Although amidst other things, I was quick to observe how differently his face lit up. And he looked more charming, beauty radiating from all corners despite it being late into the night.

“What's funny?” I forced my voice to come out dryly as my eyes couldn't leave him.

“Well, forgive me if my laughter sounded rude. But then, I just couldn't help it.” He resumed speaking in his usual tone.

“But how on earth would you think that way so quickly?”

“Isn't that what it means?” I argued.

“No,” he shot out quickly. “Blowing off steam could mean that to some people. And it also means taking time to cool off for a while. That was what I meant in my case.”

His explanation made my whole body suddenly go numb in disappointment.

“Oh, shit!” I muttered.

“It's alright. Although I deserve an apology.” His voice was exceptionally thick, and I could instantly feel his eyes on me.

I swallowed hard and turned to him shyly, unable to take a standard look at him.

“I'm sorry,” I said and waited to get a response from him. But there was nothing until he spoke again.

“You know, I could heal you completely if you'd just let me kiss you.” His words ran deep into my head, and I looked up immediately, our eyes locking into each other.

Carissa's POV I didn't like the chill that came with her voice.“What are they?” I asked in response. “Mysteries are unexplainable occurrences experienced by our ancestors. One of them is called Carvo Aqueto.”“What's that?”I was getting a very unsettling and eerie feeling from the way she spoke, but I didn't dare question her behavior or why her voice was unusually calm.“The mystery says that a wolf could harness so much power it could trap its human form for life.”I shook my head, not wanting to believe my ears.“That's impossible.”“Oh, it is very possible,” she said, her eyes wider than an owl’s. Like they were about to pop out of her eye sockets.“Especially with our good friend Violetta. That's why I need you to be on watch. You will monitor her every move. Any sign of her getting stronger, you report to me. Then at the right time, we feed her.”Her evil grin unnerved me, and immediately she took her eyes off the bottle; it was like she was a totally different person.“That

Violetta's POV By noon, the healer wasn't back yet. I had questions for her, which explained why I was making frequent visits to her tent.I exhaled; coupled with that, I was also cold. On my way to Theodore's room, I heard a voice from one of the rooms that made me stop. I took a few steps back. There was a small space on the door where the voice, or scratch that, voices, were coming from.I stood at the far end of the door, where it was attached to the wall, pressing myself against it to listen.I didn't know who Nolan was talking to, but the voice responding was lighter and familiar, like a woman's.“Why did you go back to her? You don't think I am Luna material enough for you?”“It's not that. This is about the prophecy, ok? My mum is hell-bent on getting an heir from Violetta.”I gasped. So that was her motive? That was why she wanted me to take Nolan back so badly.“So what? You're going to go on your knees and beg her. An Alpha like you.”“Enough!” Nolan exclaimed. “I'm done w

Violetta's POVI closed my eyes, trying to push my tears back. That wasn't enough.“What about the others? What about other people who may try to hurt me? I'm useless at protecting myself. Caleb was right. Caleb is right. I attract doom everywhere I go.”The tears came down my cheek. “Hey.”His hands moved my head slowly so I faced his direction. He came closer, caressing my right cheek with his thumb. My heart started racing again, and I felt hot from his touch immediately. I could hear my wolf purring, savoring the ethereal moment between us.“Listen.”His voice was deep but light, and I stared as intently as he stared back.“Caleb is wrong. You’re special. You just need time to harness your abilities.”“I don't even have a wolf.”“Shh,” he said, placing his middle finger on my lips. I melted inside.“Everyone has a wolf. It will come around someday. I know it will.”I shook my head, taking his hand off me. “No, I don't want to someday. I want it now, and I need you to help me.”“He

Violetta's POV I knew that signature like the back of my palm. No one knew it better than me. But I wanted to be sure, to make sure I wasn't seeing things, so I looked at the letter closely.“S.C.” with the signature on it. It was my mother's without a doubt. So my mother had written a letter to this woman called Avina? Why? Who was she?I looked at the letter again. Maybe it was time I knew more about my mother. I wrapped the letter and placed it in the pocket of my cottage skirt. I changed my mind about the banquet hall and rushed to the healer's tent instead.Unluckily for me, she hadn't returned yet.“I thought you were coming for breakfast.”I froze. It was Theodore.I wondered how he always managed to find me.“I was. I …needed something from her.”“She won't be back till evening today. Breakfast is still on, though.”Having no choice but to wait, I made my way to the banquet hall, which I'd have completely missed if he hadn't shown me the way. He left me to go and train with

Theodore's POV I noticed how disturbed she was. That was why I got out of bed. I thought maybe then she'd sleep off easily.“You look like you need some sleep. I'm going for a jog so you have the whole bed to yourself.”“Oh,” she said, looking away. Her elbows rested on the barricade, hands holding the blanket I got for her.Silence enveloped us, and it was absolutely sickening. I watched her demeanor, how she changed her stance every three minutes, and how she walked to the edge in intervals, like there was some sort of comfort there. Finally, she took a seat on one of the outdoor sofas. The trees rustled in the distance. I'd always loved the place for the views, even as a child.“You know, I saw a monster once in those trees when I was little.”“What kind of monster?” she asked.“A green giant one”I glanced at her. She was smiling, not largely, but I could see it on her face—the faint line that grew a centimeter longer.“I saw a monster once. I hid under my bed, and when it was mo

Violetta's POVI stood, staring at the door for a while. The thought of going back to Theodore's room deeply annoyed me. I took another deep breath in, gathering all the ego and calm I could muster. I'd need it to face someone as annoying as Theodore. He opened the door before I got to it, like he knew that I was already there.“Welcome back,” he remarked sarcastically. I didn't respond; I just moved to the room on the left.“Caleb's sleeping there tonight. He's already moved some of his things.”I had a brief moment of relief hearing that because it also meant I wouldn't be alone. But then I realized. I'd have to sleep in the same bed with him.And he wasn't injured anymore.Something seemed to excite me, and I caught hold of myself immediately.“Don’t be pathetic, Violetta. You're done with men.”I set down the clothes I'd picked on the couch. I wanted to change, so I took one of the dresses from the healer and went into the extra room on the right.Just then, Theodore stepped out o
