On my 18th Birthday, My twin sister married my mate, Alpha Jacob, in my name. I was Alisa Clark, the she-wolf with the purest blood. The Alphas must feed on my blood. They were blessed with great power while they were cursed. The greater their abilities, the shorter their lives. My blood protected them from their curse Yet, my twin Jennifer took away my glory and had me tortured for 6 years! Worse still, My mate allowed it ** "You've been like a pig for us. He can smell you down here. He's known this whole time." She took out a mirror and held it up to my face. " You think he would ever accept such an ugly mate like this pig." I hadn't seen myself since I was twelve, vibrant and healthy. I was a child then, and now I looked like a ghost. My face was hollow and pale like a sick person. I saw the scar on my face, it burned and had inflamed my cheek so that it was swollen. My eyes were red from the tears. My hair was dull and limp over my skull. My purple eyes were the only piece of me that still held some semblance of life. I could see scars even on my neck, and I knew that my body was even more scarred, and even more pathetic... "How dare you be so stupid." Jennifer said. "How dare you think the Alpha wants you for more than your blood. Imagine him mating with you, when he could have me."
View MoreI was Alissa Clark. My blood smelt the sweetest, and tasted the best. They said I was the she wolf with the best blood in past centuries. It was the greatest honor of my family. Why? The Alpha would need my blood to survive and thrive.
Our pack, Crowalt pack, is the most powerful pack across the land. Our Alphas from Clan Alexander were given witch-like powers. They see both the past and the future. They control the history and fate of the pack. Blessed by the moon goddess, Clan Alexander are the same as gods in our eyes.
Even though Clan Alexander members have the most powerful abilities, they are cursed. The greater their abilities, the shorter their lives. They would find it hard to hold their inner wolves back. Eventually, they would lose control and never shift from human to wolf form again.
The blood of the Clark she-wolves could protect them from their curse.
To keep Alexanders from being greedy and hurting Clarks, there's a pact between the two clans. Clan Alexander males take a she-wolf form Clan Clark to be their mate, and single blood provider.
Every Clark she-wolf above 12 years old must be registered and tested at the annual games. According to the test result, we are graded into different levels. The she wolves in higher level will be mated with higher ranked Alexander males
I participated the game when I was 12. I was graded in the highest level. In fact, I won first place.
I would be Alpha Jacob's exclusive blood provider. When I turned 18, I would become his Luna. I felt honored to serve my Alpha and my pack.
The next day after the game, a group of guards came for me. "You're called to the Alpha's lair," they said without my name. It was nice to be known.
I was escorted away from my family, too excited to question why the guards who led me looked powerful and strict.
"Did Alpha send for me?" I asked. The guards didn't answer. I expected this day to be the best in my life. Winning the contest- having the purest blood to serve the Alpha was only the beginning. Alpha Jacob would meet me, and he probably wanted to know his future Luna.
How many times as a girl had I seen him and dreamed of the day that my blood might be the best for him. I dreamed that I would know him and be his Luna.
We came to the Alpha's lair. Looking like a castle, it was a cave that had rooms made of stone built around it, reaching the length of ten houses. There were lights in the windows of these rooms, and I could see figures watching me from them.
The guards led me inside. Looking upstairs, there was sunlight streaming into light rooms of luxurious colors and furniture like I'd never seen in my life. Everything seemed to shimmer like it descended from the heavens. My breaths shortened with my anticipation of seeing Jacob. Soon, I would smell his power.
I expected to proceed upwards towards these beautiful things. I hoped to talk with Alpha Jacob and learn about each other for the next six years till we would get married. Suddenly, as my foot graced the first step, one of the guards grabbed me.
"No. This way," he said with a rough voice. Another guard took my other arm, and they brought me downstairs. I was so shocked at first, I didn't even fight. I didn't know why they had to handle me like that. They could have just told me I needed to change or get cleaned up first.
"Where are you taking me?" I finally demanded as they dragged me into a dark chamber beneath the lair. It was wrong. Let me out. My wolf Arianna was roaring up protectively.
"Don't use that tone with us, girl." One guard said.
I shifted and tried to run away. The two other wolf guards bit me, grabbing the fur of my neck. I was 12 years old. My wolf was much smaller than them. No matter how I clawed and bit, they dragged me further into the basement. They forced wolfsbane powder into my nose. I flinched, wrenching away from the potent scent, and I shifted back to human.
"What are you doing?" I cried out, whimpering as they flattened my body to the ground. "No! You can't do this to me! I'm Alissa Clark! Alpha needs my blood!" I screamed. This was all wrong.
After the wolfs bane, I was too weak to fight. They put chains on my hands and wrists, and they locked me in a dark 50 square foot cell. Like a prisoner. I cried and screamed at the guards for answers, but no one reacted.
"Alpha Jacob!" I screamed over and over. He couldn't be so far away to not hear me. But no one answered.
The next day, Arianna finally woke up within my body, although she was too weak to take over. I tried to mind link my family, my clan. Yet, the connection was off.
The guards came with a doctor to take my blood on a platter.
"Why are you doing this to me?" I snarled.
"It's for the Alpha. You should serve willingly." The Doctor said, his expression was blank as if he couldn't have feelings.
"I'm Alissa Clark," I said, pleading as my body felt limp. "I'm the future Luna."
He only eyed me skeptically as if I was the one who'd lost their mind. Finally, he acknowledged, "This is very good blood."
I knew that, but it was supposed to be a place of honor, not like a prisoner. The first cut was carefully on my wrist, he turned my arm into a small golden bowl to collect the blood. The red liquid was squeezed out of me, much more than at the games.
"It hurts. Stop." I said, trying to drag my arm away, but it was locked in place by chains and one of the guards.
Days went by. Every long and torturous day, they came once for my blood. They would cut me and squeeze my wounds to get more to drain out. It hurt to bleed like that every day. They cut in new places when old ones became too deep.
For the health of my blood, I saw sunshine once a day when the guards led me on a walk with a rope around my neck. I could never refuse the food they provided. When I refused to eat, they would force food into my mouth and slap me to compliance.
They dosed me with wolfsbane every 6 hours to put down my wolf. I became dizzy and weak. My head spun and it felt tight in my chest. I dreaded it so much after experiencing my wolf being forced back a hundred times. I stopped trying to shift and fight them.
I became scarred all over my body. I had nothing left of my dignity or hopes. I longed for someone to rescue me. I wanted to go home. I wanted to be anywhere but there.
My body grew as years passed, indicating the time more than anything. I felt taller, but I had no mirrors and I still imagined myself as a twelve-year-old girl. Looking down at the rags barely covering my body, I counted two hundred and twenty-four scars.
One day, after they bled me and took my blood away in the golden cup, I decided that I would keep the cut bleeding to kill myself. I wanted to die. I had lost all hope.
They bandaged it properly as they always did. Since I hadn't been fighting, they didn't use wolfsbane on me that day. As soon as I thought they were gone, I let Arianna out and tore open the bandage with my fangs. I opened the wound again, ripping into my own leg, hoping to bleed myself to death.
The guards must have heard me.
"Hey!" I heard one of the guards shout. My whole body froze in panic for a second before I began to rip harder at my own flesh, desperately. It should have hurt so much but I was numb to the pain. Three of the guards were in the room immediately, forcing me to the ground, shoving the terrible wolfsbane onto my nose. "She's wasting her blood!"
"Doctor!" They were calling desperately as I became barely conscious.
This time they did not beat me in case my body could not handle the abuse any longer, but I'd ruined a few days' worth of blood if they were going to keep me alive.
They burned my wounds to keep them from bleeding. They held the hot iron for a long time to make it hurt more. They forced my head under water till I was gasping for air and swallowing liquid. I choked and they slapped me and forced my head under the water again.
My heart raced and my body shook, but I wouldn't cry and beg this time. All Ariana could muster was a low, reverberative snarl inside me.
"I dare you to kill me." Between breaths I screamed.
"You want to die!" One guard screamed. "You are a shame! You betray the pack!
They burned a scar onto my face with a hot needle. I screamed but they forced a cloth into my mouth and forced my head to stay still.
I grumbled any combination of nasty words, then screamed through the gag as the needle seared my face. He dragged it in purposeful motions, like he was drawing.
"It says PIG. You look prettier with that scar on your face to match the rest of your sad body."
Suddenly, I heard a woman laugh cruelly behind my bed.
I knew that voice. I strained my neck free. I looked over, my face throbbing with the word PIG burned into it.
It had been years, so at first, I hardly recognized her in such a refined dress with jewels woven into the fabric.
I didn't know what I looked like anymore, but it was like seeing myself grown up without all the scars.
Her long blonde hair was wavy and hung all the way to her waist. Her purple eyes narrowed with disgust.
It was my twin, Jennifer. How could she be here?
Alyson The pain is insurmountable. I fight through it, thinking of the pups that need me, that are clinging to the hope that I will always fight for them, and I won't disappoint them now. I turn over, laid out on the floor of the bathroom, the healer working at the cramps in my spine. I grab the towels, grab my own shirt, desperate to get through this sooner than later. My wolf whines and my heart hurts. "RYAN!" I need him, I want him, and I fear I can't do this ordeal without him beside me. I lay out, exhausted from the agony, crying inconsolably until I hear heavy steps parading through the bedroom. Soon, they find the healer and I in the bathroom, my eyes dizzy as I spot Ryan, naked and drenched in rainwater. My breath catches, curious if I am dreaming. "Right here, Alpha, come help me with this," the healer grunts. I feel my mate hold my head, pushing deep into my spine as I straighten my back out in reflex, feeling th
Ryan "Damn this weather," I mutter. The storm has yet to let up and in fact, I believe it's started pouring down harder, with more vigor, and still shows no signs of slowing for my benefit. "Have you tried linking to the healer?" Olivera asks, his antsy attitude not helping my worried state right now. "I mean, if you can't reach through the link to her, she might just be asleep and everything is okay—that could be possible, right? I mean, if you think about—" "Hush," I beg. "You're rambling again." "I'm sorry that I'm flustered," he grovels. "I'm just trying to keep calm." I raise my brow, trying to stay focused on my mate but I can't seem to shake this infatuation Olivera has had for my mate. I should ignore it, as I have in the past weeks, but something about being stuck in this small cave with him has my mind tethering off too many emotions at once. "Enlighten me, please," I sigh, shaking my head out at the storm. "What is this weirdly possessive, sympathetic binding you thi
Ryan I fight through the winds, the rain cascading over my warriors and me. It wasn't the best idea coming out during this type of storm but we lacked one natural ingredient that grows just south of the waterfall trail and then the cure would be complete for the last facility of rogues. I have healed slowly in my weeks of developing the cure, but I could use a dose myself. Thankfully it hasn't affected my poorly mate, spending most of her days passed out in bed until I force her to get up and move around a bit. It's been exhausting for her, but she is the patriarchy of a new family, the strongest she-wolf I know who is capable of carrying these pups. "Dammit, lover boy! Where are you?!" I barge out of the mouth of the cave where my warriors have been taking shelter from the monsoon outside. I see that rogue alpha in the distance, throwing his hands up in a small fit of rage. It's almost amusing if he didn't also sport a petrified look of angst as well. "Over here," I call out. H
Alyson It's hard to feel not included in the cure development, but I watch Ryan and Olivera get along for many consecutive weeks. At least I have that peaceful energy around, watching them work with the palace pack healers to help the rogues locked up in the facilities, still sick. Thankfully there wasn't an enormous outbreak and everything seems to have worked out. I can't help the feeling of doom, though, thinking about every time things were perfect, something horrible happened. I thought once we defeated Jacob and sent away Jennifer, everything would have worked out forever. I was wrong, but if none of that bad stuff happened, I wouldn't be pregnant. I fear these pups won't be okay, the healer making a daily visit, sometimes twice a day, at least to check on my progress. I worry everyday he will say something bad has happened and they're hurt, or worse. I would give my life for these two pups but I hope I don't have to. "Morning, sweeth
Alyson "Relax," Ryan coos, brushing my hair back. He has finally come to my side, forcing my eyes to stay on his, even as he paces his attention back and forth between me and the healer. I squeeze my mate's hand, feeling pressure build in my abdomen. "There you go, he's done." The healer removes his gloves, my eyes catching a glimpse of Olivera in the hall, seeing him pace frantically fast back and forth in the hallway. I look at my mate now, glimmering with sadness as he peers down at me. I know he feels like I've grown feelings for the rogue Alpha, and I haven't, but I can be sympathetic to the wolf who lost everything; just like I had. "Are the pups okay?" I breathe. Ryan flinches. "More than—more than one?" He watches the healer as though waiting to hear so magical, good news. "What is going on? Are they okay? How many are there? I—" The healer settles his hands together before his body, like a man with bad news. "It's hard to tell
Alyson Whatever causes the fight, I'm not exactly sure, but it breaks out anyways. Every single wolf in the courtyard has shifted, the movements so fast that I don't even release that I've been thrown out of the hecticness, my side slamming against the brick wall and my head smacking right up against it until I feel the blood flow from a cut on my temple. I curl into a ball, my hands instinctively curling to my stomach, so dazed that instead of being able to see what has caused this fight to break out, I only spot wolves tearing into one another, biting into flesh and blood being poured. Ryan, I reach through the mind link, not capable of spotting him through the haze in my eyesight. What the hell is going on? Rouges came from the pack lands; they must have been waiting to ambush. Where are you, mate? Get out of here! Go inside, now! I aim to sit up, my head so discombobulated that I can't even dictate which direction would take me bac
Alyson It only takes a moment for me to catch my breath, and another for me to sprint across the hall, watching Olivera struggle to stand, instead melting to the floor where he slams his fist against the tile floor—it cracks instantly under his bold knuckles. I dare flinch, seeing him so angry almost a warning for me to be careful, but I instead charge forward anyways. I grab his cheek, forcing him to meet my eyes, and he relaxes ever so slightly. When he does, I drag my palm across his face in a single, sharp slap. He jolts upright, standing suddenly and staring me down with a pure look of surprise written across his face. "What the hell was that for?" "That's for doing something so stupid," I growl, my fists trembling at my sides. "You could have died from that cure, Olivera, how dare you try something that risky in my palace?" "You might be the Luna, but you're not my Luna," he says, snide. "I am free to make any decision I want if
Alyson I find myself sitting in the hallway between office and bedroom. In one, my mate suffers with an ill mark on his shoulder and back, and in the other sits an enigma of a wolf. He has kissed me, he has fondled me, and unknown to us both, he has poisoned me while I was newly pregnant. If anything, I should hate the rogue Alpha, but I don't have it in me to leave him completely. So I sit in the hall between them both, curled up with my hands resting on my stomach as if I have already blossomed outward, waiting for one of my favorite Alpha's to wake up. If I leave here to be with one, and the other wakes, I'll feel guilty forever. For now, I wait, hearing steps breach my silent mediation between Alphas. "My Luna, why are you out of bed?" I hear Fritz hum, my eyes watered and wide, shocked to see him here of all places. We didn't exactly part on the most amicable of terms. "You're still looking pale." I wave off his words and
Alyson I try to fight Olivera from going into the office, but he easily grabs my wrist, twists it, and nudges me out the doorway. He's too smart and too strong for me right now, my head blotted with the sleepiness that I can't seem to shake. I grab at his arm, at his shirt sleeve, and dig my heals against the ground. He drags me a few paces before finally stopping. "You're a persistent little bug," he snaps, releasing my hands off of his shirt and giving me a stern look. "We have to find out what this cure does to an Alpha and as it stands, I'm the one best capable here of verbalizing the aftermath of taking this cure. If it makes things worse, so be it." I feel my heart patter to a screeching halt. "What does worse contain?" He looks to the healer, the vial on the desk nearby, and then back to meet my eyes. "I could die, of course, or I could only loose my wolf. I'm happy to put both on the line to see if this stuff is worthy of fixing Ryan, fi
