Lucas's gaze darkened as the tension in the room thickened. I could see the primal instincts within him wrestle with the idea, a war between his human rationality and his Lycan instincts. His eyes bore into mine, searching for any signs of deception. Fear gripped me with such insteisty that i stumbled and fell on the floor. Lucas stepped back, his eyes darkened as he stared at me.
"Elara, you can't possibly expect me to believe that," he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
I held his intense gaze, determined to make him understand once and for all. "Lucas, I'm not lying to you. When i ran from my first mate, you were the only good thing that had happened to me. This baby is yours because i have never slept with another man other than you. You were my first and only."
He let out a guttural snarl, his claws involuntarily extending from his fingertips. His Lycan form was threatening to take over, and I could see the struggle on his face. It was as though he was battling his own nature, fighting to keep his emotions in check. He acted as if he was in physical pain, and the emerging lycan inside him wasn't a pretty sight. His claws, were three times bigger than an Alpha's, something i often thought was exaggrated during our classes back at the pack.
My heart raced as I took a step back, fearing what his Lycan side might do. I knew that a Lycan is more brutal that a wolf. And now, A Morretti lycan was the tip of the ice berg. They weren't just feared in their Lycan self, but in their human form too. To piss of both Lucas and his Lycan was a death wish. But I couldn't back down now, not when my fate was at stake. Not when there was a chance that he'd keep me here forever. I did not want to be a slave, but if i couldn't save myself, then i sure as hell was going to try and make things better for me.
"Lucas, please," I implored, my voice trembling.
"You may be my mate Elara, but i am not a fool!" His voice, low and strained, echoed through the depths of my soul.
"I wouldn't lie about something like this. I know it's hard to believe, but I can feel it too. Our bond is real. this child is yours. Ours. "
He let out a frustrated roar, and in an instant, his Lycan form overtook him. His eyes turned golden, and his muscles bulged, making him appear even more imposing. His shoulders grew wider, before his limbs extending with a bone cracking noise that made him let a grunt. It was a terrifying transformation, and I couldn't help but take another step back, my heart pounding in my chest. The size of his clwas only seemed to be growing bigger. His fangs protruded, drawing with them a dark pink blood that dropped on the carpeted floor.
Turning around, heart pounding in my chest, i began banging at the door. i was void of words. All i wanted to do was get out of here.
Finally he stood before me, the clothes on his body wripped and barely hanging on. the muscles on his back had doubled in size, yet, his shoulders had broadened in a way that made him thrice his orginal human form. Lucas, now in his Lycan form, advanced toward me with a predatory grace. I was trapped, fear coursing through my veins as he cornered me against the wall. His sharp claws scraped against the surface, leaving deep gouges in their wake.
I let a wailing scream as i sqeezed myself towards the emoty space between his arm and the door. When i got through knowing that the door was not my refuge, I run towards the bathroom. My entire body was shaking, adrenaline pumped inside me as i looked back at him for a split second. Yet, he wasn't there.
Confusion stired within me as i stoped in my tracks and began to double back, yet, the large fingers that wraped at the back of my neck paralyzed me with fear.
"Mate!'' The voice was grunted, deep and hoarse. His loud heavy breath, fanning my neck sent shiver through my body. Not the normal shivers i always got with Lucas, diffrent, scary. Slowly, his footsteps dragged until he stood before me, his hands never leaving my neck, as if afraid i would run again. The truth is that i would, given the chance, i would run and not look back.
Given the chance, i would reject him as my mate and suffer somewhere else. This was not the kind of father i wished on my child. And neither was it the life i wished for myself. I closed my eyes, unable to bear the intensity of his gaze. His eyes had felt like they were buring into me. Golden and glowing, , like the very light of the sun.
Nature had done a number on this one. The moon goddess, made a mistake here. No creature should be this powerful.
But then, instead of attacking, Lucas did something unexpected. He knelt down, pressing one massive hand gently against my abdomen. Panic set inside me as my insticts gathered what he was about to do. And i wasn't going to wait any longer.
"NO!'' I let out a painstricking scream as i wripped myself away from his grip, causing his claws to rattle against the back of my neck painfully, drawing blood. I ran towards the door, and instictively, as if mother nature had heard my cry, they were opened. I ducked down, afraid of knocking head on with the incoming figure.
"Lycan King, PLEASE!'' Joseph, his beta, rushed inside. From the creaked view of the slightly open door, i could see the beast still standing there. Heaving and breathing heavily. I turned to my heel and now run.
Now was the perfect time. If i wanted to escape, I needed to do it now.
There was the sound of breaking furniture from the bedroom, followed by a scream of pain. i hurried down the flight of stairs, fear gripping me.
"Where the fuck do you think you're going?'' Someone gripped my by the hair causing me to stumble back at the bottom of the stairs with a thud.
A woman, seemingly just my age, looked down at my with disdain. "If he's going to kill you, he might as well do it now.''
She gripped the collar of my dress before using it to drag me up with it. I let out a scream of pain, still feeling blood oozing all over my dress but not knowing where it came from.
"MATE!'' The voice sounded all through the large house, and the woman, seemed frozen as she came to a halt before the bedroom door and dropped me at Lucas' feet.
"Master, I have brought the bitch back to...'' Her neck was gripped before her body was pulled up from the floor effortlessly. I was still trying to calm the pounding in my head as i watched them.
Lucas eyes, glowed for a split second, switching from a golden color to a pitch black. In that moment, there was a snapping sound that ripped through the vicinity before a chunk of blood splashed over the walls.
"Alpha NO!'' The screaming sound of a woman from the bottom of the stairs slightly distrcuted me as i turned to look. The high priestess, mouth agape as she stared up at us, continued to stand there, perplexed and staring up at Lucas like she's seen a ghost.
The quick beating of my heart did me no justice, and neither did my stubbornness despite the wolf inside me warning me to just get up and run.
I turned around, and i looked at Lucas. The world around me seemed to halt, i was paralyzed with fear and horror as i looked at him, holding a lifeless body in his hands.
it wasn't just the dead girl that scared me, but it was how brutally he had kiiled her. In his left hand, he held her dangling head, gripped her the hair, blood still dripping, horror still covering her eyes.
The blood painted on the wall certainly stood as a testament to what he had done. He threw the head accross the stairs, watching as it dangled down the staircase and stopped at the high priestess feet. He turned to me, and suddenly my will to run was pumped back into me.
I got up, I turned around, and I run for my dear life.
Lucas's POVThe infirmary reeked of burnt flesh and medicinal herbs. Aurelio lay on one of the beds, his skin covered in red welts - the kind only magic could create. My mother was in a similar condition in the next room. She hadn’t woken up in days, no matter all the doctor’s attempts. According to Aurelio, who’d been knocked unconscious when my mother attacked my mate, someone intervened. A wolf who protected Elara from my mom. Whoever they were, they were Amaris. While I was relieved that Elara was protected, I wondered what Amaris was planning.Aurelio was awake now, having come back from Matthew pack where I’d sent him to rescue Sabrina. I sat beside my beta, discussing our next moves when Elara walked in.She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Aurelio. "What happened to you?"Aurelio tried to sit up, wincing with every movement. "I found Sabrina in Matthew's basement. When I tried to get her out..." He paused, fighting through obvious pain. "You mom and aunt were waiting.
Lucas' POV"We have to do something.'' I spat, resisting the urge to slam the doctor's head into the wall. She was being useless. "Alpha, something happened. All the tests barely show any signs of life in Elara's body, it's as if only the baby lives.'' I growled, hands snapping around the doctor's neck before I could stop myself. I picked her up, slamming her back against the wall so hard she blacked out. "Son, we need to talk.'' My father was standing across the doorway, that smug expression on his face. "I don't have the time for your nonsense,''"It's about your sister.'' He says. My shoulders drop, a chill runs down my spine. "Joseph,'' I called out to the guard standing outside the door. Take the doctor to the infirmary. When she wakes up, let her know that how long she lives is determined by how well she treats my mate.'' Joseph nodded, dragging the doctor out. It had been one day since I sent Aurelio back into Matthew's to save my sister. "What happened?'''"Your incom
Lucas' POVBefore Elara, I was untouchable. Cold. Ruthless. An alpha who ruled through fear and power. I killed without remorse, led without mercy. My wolf was a beast even I could barely control. Then she walked into my life, a girl who somehow believed so low of herself. How could I have known that a broken little wolf would patch up my broken pieces. Without the usual muscle and skill that appeals to the Lycan race, she proved stronger than anyone I’ve ever known. Perfect than any woman I’ve ever met. She came in with her quiet strength, and somehow the walls I'd built over centuries began to crack. She taught me how to love. More terrifying – she taught me how to accept love. For the first time in my existence, I learned what it meant to care for someone more than power, more than control, more than my own life. And what did I do with that gift? I destroyed it.The day I rejected her, something broke inside me. I watched the light die in her eyes as I spat those cruel words at her
Lucas's POVAurelio's scent hit me before his voice pierced through the mindlink. "Alpha!" His cry sent pain shooting through my head. Something was wrong. That cry held too much distress."What happened? Is Elara okay?" I'd sent my beta out the same day I sent Elara away. I needed someone I trusted watching her at all times. While I handled the threats in my pack, my mate still needed to stay safe."Please, come. Elara, she's... at the gates." The mindlink broke before he could finish. I sprinted out of the war room, leaving my commanders confused as I ran toward the gates of my pack. There, at the gate, lay the most precious thing in my life. My mate. But she wasn't breathing. She wasn't moving.FLASHBACK - BATTLE IN THE WITCH VILLAGEI was about to kill Matthew when a gush of pure burning magic hit him. The magic seared his skin but didn't burn him like it burned the Lycan caught in the crossfire. At the entrance stood Elara's mom."Where's my daughter?" Elara's mom asked."She's
Elara's POV"Something's wrong," I gasped, doubling over. The pain felt like molten lead in my veins. "We need to stop."My mother touched my forehead with cool fingers. "It's perfectly normal, sweetheart. Pregnant women often experience this." "What? No. I've never felt...This isn't - this is different." I clutched my stomach. "It feels like I'm being torn apart.""That's Amaris," Aunt Isabella said, arranging clay bowls in a circle. Dark liquid bubbled inside them. "She's trying to manipulate you."I stared at the bowls. "Is that blood? Where did you get- Is that someone’s blood? Oh Godess! What did you do?""Don't focus on that now," my mother interrupted, guiding me toward the center of their ritual space. Cedar and sage smoke coiled around us, and bundles of dried herbs - nightshade, wolfsbane, belladonna - hung from black iron hooks. The pain intensified. "Please," I whispered. "Something isn't right.""Matthew," my aunt called sharply. "Hold her still."His hands gripped my sh
Elara’s POV"We want to make this right," my mother begs. "Let us help you."I cross my arms. "There’s nothing you can do to erase years of pain and suffering.”"We can free you from Amaris," Aunt Isabella cuts in. "A ritual to expel her spirit completely."I look at them, breathless for a moment. If Amaris was gone, I could feel my wolf again. I wouldn’t be worried about my baby. I could go back to Lucas, given I won’t be worried about Amaris taking over and hurting him. I’d be free. I study their faces, looking for any sign of deception. "Just like that? You want to help me after admitting you orchestrated my entire life?""It's the least we can do," Matthew says. "Let us try to fix what we broke."My mother steps forward. "Please, Elara. Let this be our apology."I consider their offer. Part of me wants to refuse anything they suggest, but another part... "Fine," I say finally. "Do it.""We'll need time to prepare the ritual grounds," Aunt Isabella says. Hesitant, I ease up. "Fin
