Perfection is what distinguished werewolves from humans. It was a big crime in Bluemoon pack to be a defect, a runt, a wolf-less shifter. Things like this could name even a child cursed and a traitor and the crime is punishable by death.
This was the fate of Viola, the last princess of the blue moon pack. Alpha Graham tore his gaze from his daughter and fixed his glowering eyes on his Luna's. His fury was evident; anger blazed in his eyes, and his flushed face reflected how insulted he felt. Never in his life, nor in all the history he had witnessed, had the pack seen anyone like her. As a leader, he had seen a good number of imperfections, people with physical deformities and other defects, but never anything like this. His daughter was cursed. No one would want her with that monstrous flaw, especially in the place where the soul was reflected... the eyes. "She must be put to death," declared Graham. Patricia opened her eyes wide, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets. "She's your daughter!" she exclaimed. Tears streamed down her cheeks, fueled by courage and rage. The Luna knew perfectly well that when the Alpha made a decision, he carried it out without mercy. She could not bear to watch her own daughter's head being torn off and hanged on a spike. "Her sisters are perfect," the Alpha continued. "Women who will captivate men and women alike. They'll find husbands with just a warm smile. And she..." He looked at his toddler with disgust. "Do you think that will look good with our bloodline?" Patricia shook her head. "Alpha!" She pleaded, immediately kneeling. "I beg you," tears of profound sorrow streamed down her face. "She is my daughter. You conceived her within me, she grew in my womb, and I felt her kick until she was born. You cannot know the suffering a mother endures to give life to a child and to bring a child to the world; I can't imagine having her taken from me so cruelly." She sobbed. "That's the pack rule, woman! She's a defect! An imperfect little monster." "Please do not take her life." She kissed her husband's hand. "I will see to it that no one ever sets eyes on her again." "And how do you intend to marry her off to a man if you don't let her see anyone?" asked the Alpha looking at her with eyes filled with venom, as if he were listening to her utter bunch of nonsense. Patricia sat up slightly and looked at him, searching for a way to save her daughter. She stood before her husband and spoke with determination. "I swear you will never see her again from this day forward. The princess will not cross your path, Your Alpha," she affirmed, drying her damp face. "When she comes of age, I myself will present her to the pack and see to finding her a husband. Whatever it takes." The Alpha stared at her intently, lost in thought. His gaze betrayed how he was weighing his decision. "Very well. I will allow you to do as you promised. If she is not married by the time she reaches the age of the moon, I will kill her, with my own hands," he declared. Without another word, he cast another look of revulsion at his daughter and left the room.Viola's room was at the end of the second-floor hallway. A young blonde handmaiden opened the door and stepped aside to let her in.Viola walked in, her eyes lifting with surprise. She didn't know where to look. The bedroom was huge. There were vases of fresh flowers, a bookcase full of books, a reading nook, a floor lamp, a sofa, and a desk. It was a dream bedroom of a librarian and book lover. But what took her breath away was the back corner. There was a wooden easel, blank canvases leaning against the wall, boxes of new oil paints, and brushes arranged by size. Right next to it, on a low table, rested a camera and a stack of empty photo albums. She approached slowly, ran her fingers along the edge of the canvas. Then she looked at the colors, the ones she had always wanted. She didn't understand how they got there. She thought it was a coincidence. That someone had tastefully decorated that corner without knowing that a woman who had wanted exactly that for years would arrive. It
Viola with no other option took the first step, and just then the dragon moved, preventing any attempt at escape. A knot formed in her stomach, and as she crossed the portal, her head began to spin. She closed her eyes, feeling the sound of the wind and the ocean waves disappear behind her. When she finally opened them, she found herself on a gigantic castle balcony, where the cold wind played with her hair and dress. The moon shone brightly, illuminating the entire place. "You did well, Viola," he said, releasing her from his grip. "Welcome to the kingdom of Nightmore." Viola looked around in astonishment, unable to process what was happening. She had just stepped through a circle into a kingdom far removed from Blue Moon. Instantly, another portal opened, and with it, Rosie and the dragon appeared. Rosie immediately looked at Lucian. "We must go to the throne room." "Come. Let me introduce you to the staff," Lucian said, ignoring Rosie. He opened another portal that led them s
A cold shiver ran through Viola's body upon hearing his name. Her eyes widened, and she took two steps back."Can I refuse this arrangement. I'm not ready for marriage" she exclaimed softly, feeling cornered.Lucian let out a soft, almost mocking laugh."I don't care about that," he said, approaching her with a malicious smile. "What would you do? Run back to your daddy?"Viola shook her head."That would be pointless," she replied. "I want nothing to do with you either. All my brothers died in your hands. Even if my father had forgotten, I wouldn't forget the letters the Lycans sent my mother and how you made her weep at night."He raised an eyebrow without giving her a response. As he observed the flow of water and the energy it carried with it, Viola thought it was a good time to try escaping. He was distracted and she could give her luck a chance. Without a second thought, Viola spun around and started running toward the ship's rail, determined to jump if necessary. But on her
Viola's tears flowed freely as she shook her head, pleading with him."Please let me go. I don't want to bother you anymore. Just send me away from your pack. I did not and would never hurt my sister," she pleaded, looking at her father. The Alpha mind-linked his daughter, a wicked smile thinning his lips. "Of course you didn't hurt her. I put her up to it.""Do you hate me that much, father? Why? Because of my flaw or is there something else?" Viola replied. Before she could get a response, a man from the crowd shouted."We want to see her clearly, without the mask!"Soon, others began to join the request, exclaiming that they too wanted to see her face. Viola felt the chaos rising in her chest.Graham looked at her with disdain."Take off your mask," he ordered in an authoritarian voice."No!" cried Viola, her voice filled with panic.Without giving her time to react, her father forcefully ripped off her mask and threw it to the floor.Viola felt the cold air of the room touch her
Night had fallen on the blue moon pack, and with the darkness came Viola's despair. She had been locked away for days. The guards watching over her room had received strict orders from her father: no one was allowed to enter. This feeling of isolation made her feel more vulnerable than ever. She heard the rattling on the door and paced closer to it, pressing her ear against it. Viola almost popped out of the room when the door opened, but a guard caught her early enough to shove her back in. His appearance was stern."Get ready," he ordered, his voice stern with the authority of his position. "The Alpha has given instructions, and if you don't obey, I will drag you to the hall by force. So I'll give you thirty minutes to get ready." With that, he turned and left the room."How is my sister? Is Kiara fine? Is she alive?" her voice quivered. "She's alive. Barely. If she wasn't, you would have been dead, Princess," the guard stretched the last word in a mocking tone. Viola felt trap
Viola's joy faltered. "What... why are you saying that to me? I have no recollection of the day I got my wolf, and I've never shown any sign of being a shifter ever since."Kiara nodded slowly. A mischievous smile appeared on her lips as she hugged her sister tightly."I'm sorry, V," she whispered against Viola's shoulder. Then she went stillViola felt the sudden tension in her sister's body. She tried to pull back to see her face, but Kiara's arms tightened around her."Kiara?"Kiara gasped and stumbled backward. Viola reached for her, but Kiara's hand shot up, pressing against her own chest. Her breath became quick and rushed. Her face was flushing, her skin darkening from her jawline upward like someone was pouring poison through her veins."Kiara, what's going on?"""V..." Kiara's voice cracked. "V, I can't..."Her eyes rolled back. The whites of her eyes showed red, with tiny vessels. Her mouth opened, and a sound came out that was part gasp, part scream, part choke."What's h
