Once upon a time, the werewolves orchestrated a deception that destroyed the Lycans. They came bearing false peace and a binding ritual that would kill every member of the royal bloodline upon their thirtieth birthday and strip magic from the entire Lycan race.. Eighteen years ago, a child was born to bridge the divide between werewolves and Lycans, carrying a dangerous defect her mother spent a lifetime concealing. Rejected by every suitor due to her defect, Princess Viola is treated as a burden by her father, who offers a million gold coins to any man willing to marry her. While Alphas and Omegas alike flock to claim the prize, it is the feared Lycan King who ultimately claims her. But King Lucian has no intention of giving Viola the fantasy of marriage. He is dying in a matter of months, and he will do whatever it takes to break the curse before the clock runs out . **** You seemed to enjoy yourself plenty last night. Flirting and giggling with other men?" Lucian's tone was vicious. "Your Majesty, I was merely respecting your privacy," she replied smoothly. "I tried to catch your eye to at least look like a happy couple, but you were intent on shutting me out completely. So I remembered your advice: you said I could choose a male companion for myself. A queen has to flirt to win a man's heart. Is that what got under your skin?" Lucian looked away, his fist clenching tightly at his side. "What got under my skin is that you smiled at him. How long have you known him, and what did he say to you? We have known each other for a while now, and not once have you smiled at my words."

Chapter 1

Prologue

Perfection is what distinguished werewolves from humans. It was a big crime in Bluemoon pack to be a defect, a runt, a wolf-less shifter. Things like this could name even a child cursed and a traitor and the crime is punishable by death.

This was the fate of Viola, the last princess of the blue moon pack.

Alpha Graham tore his gaze from his daughter and fixed his glowering eyes on his Luna's. His fury was evident; anger blazed in his eyes, and his flushed face reflected how insulted he felt.

Never in his life, nor in all the history he had witnessed, had the pack seen anyone like her. As a leader, he had seen a good number of imperfections, people with physical deformities and other defects, but never anything like this. His daughter was cursed. No one would want her with that monstrous flaw, especially in the place where the soul was reflected... the eyes.

"She must be put to death," declared Graham.

Patricia opened her eyes wide, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.

"She's your daughter!" she exclaimed. Tears streamed down her cheeks, fueled by courage and rage. The Luna knew perfectly well that when the Alpha made a decision, he carried it out without mercy. She could not bear to watch her own daughter's head being torn off and hanged on a spike.

"Her sisters are perfect," the Alpha continued. "Women who will captivate men and women alike. They'll find husbands with just a warm smile. And she..." He looked at his toddler with disgust. "Do you think that will look good with our bloodline?"

Patricia shook her head.

"Alpha!" She pleaded, immediately kneeling. "I beg you," tears of profound sorrow streamed down her face. "She is my daughter. You conceived her within me, she grew in my womb, and I felt her kick until she was born. You cannot know the suffering a mother endures to give life to a child and to bring a child to the world; I can't imagine having her taken from me so cruelly." She sobbed.

"That's the pack rule, woman! She's a defect! An imperfect little monster."

"Please do not take her life." She kissed her husband's hand. "I will see to it that no one ever sets eyes on her again."

"And how do you intend to marry her off to a man if you don't let her see anyone?" asked the Alpha looking at her with eyes filled with venom, as if he were listening to her utter bunch of nonsense.

Patricia sat up slightly and looked at him, searching for a way to save her daughter. She stood before her husband and spoke with determination.

"I swear you will never see her again from this day forward. The princess will not cross your path, Your Alpha," she affirmed, drying her damp face. "When she comes of age, I myself will present her to the pack and see to finding her a husband. Whatever it takes."

The Alpha stared at her intently, lost in thought. His gaze betrayed how he was weighing his decision.

"Very well. I will allow you to do as you promised. If she is not married by the time she reaches the age of the moon, I will kill her, with my own hands," he declared. Without another word, he cast another look of revulsion at his daughter and left the room.
