KEENA

Kayla and I flop down on my bed. As we turn towards one another, I let out a sigh of relief. I have wanted to see Kayla for days now.

"I've missed you," I whisper to her. "I have missed you so much."

"Not as much as I have missed you," Kayla says as she wraps her arms around me. "Now dish. What is going on between you and Jarek?"

Rolling over onto my back I hold up my hand that Jarek practically crushed in my father's office. Bruises are beginning to form beneath my skin. How do I tell my best friend that my mate accepted me but I think he only wants to hurt me in return?

Kayla looks up at my hand and gasps out loudly. "What happened to your hand?"

"Jarek got a little too excited in my father's office and squeezed it a little too hard." I don't know why I am lying to Kayla. I think that, maybe, the truth is too difficult to say out loud. "I think he forgets that I am not a werewolf."
