Melindana’s POV

The boutique on Fifth was the kind of place that did not put prices on anything in the window because if you needed to ask you were probably in the wrong building. I had walked past it twice in the past week and both times made a mental note to come back and today was that day.

Julie held the door and I walked in and the assistant at the front desk looked up and straightened immediately in the way people straightened when they recognised money walking through their door.

Aurelius’s Pov“Your Majesty.” Matthew’s voice again, tighter this time. “He says it’s urgent.”I looked at Mel standing at the window with her back slightly turned and her wrapped hand pressed against her stomach and I looked at the door and then I walked to it and pulled it open.Matthew straightened immediately.“Tell him to come back tomorrow,” I said.Matthew blinked once. “He was quite insistent, Your Majesty, he said…..”“Matthew.”“Yes.”“Tomorrow.”He nodded and turned and I pulled the door shut and turned back around.Mel had not moved from the window. She was looking out at whatever the grounds looked like at this hour with her shoulders straight and her wrapped hand still pressed to her stomach and her ginger hair falling forward slightly on one side.I stood there and looked at her and my wolf went quiet. Not the way I forced it quiet during the episodes, gripping windowsills and breathing through it. Just quiet. On its own. Like it had found what it had been looking for

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    His Mouth, My Blood

Melindana’s POVHis nose was bleeding and he was looking at me like I was the only reason he was still standing.I moved toward him without thinking, crossed the room fast, and the low table sitting between us in the dark caught my shin so hard my whole leg buckled and I went sideways, my hand shooting out to catch myself on the decorative iron fixture mounted on the wall beside the door. The edge of it bit into my palm immediately.I hissed and pulled my hand back and looked at it, a clean cut running diagonal across the meat of my palm, blood already welling up thick and fast, and I pressed it into my chest instinctively and looked up at Aurelius. He had moved when I stumbled, crossed the distance between us in the time it took me to feel the pain, and he was right there, one hand on my arm steadying me, his face close, his eyes already dropping to my hand pressed against my chest.“Let me see it, Mel,” he said.“It’s fine, you’re the one bleeding, your nose…..”“Mel.” His voice cam

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Close Your Mouth Luca

Melindana’s POVThe afternoon air hit my face the moment I pushed through the heavy doors and I kept walking, bag on my shoulder, heels steady on the stone steps so I didn't trip, the noise of the hall bleeding out behind me as people started filing out.I was three steps from the bottom when I heard him.“Bella.”I stopped at the bottom of the steps and turned around slowly. He was coming down the steps fast, jacket buttoned, jaw tight, and Hailey was right behind him, her face arranged back into something that almost looked calm if you didn’t know what it looked like when it wasn’t.Luca reached me and stopped close enough that he clearly intended the proximity to intimidate me.“How,” he said.“How what? I asked in genuine shock.”“Don’t start Bella.” His voice dropped. “The room was locked. I know it was locked. How did you get out?”I looked at him for a moment, then past him at Hailey, then back at him.“Get out of where, Luca?” I tilted my head slightly. “I was never locked in

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    This Body Has Secrets

Melindana’s POVI’ve tried the door handle a couple of times but it didn’t move.I stepped back, took a glance at the door properly then at the window and crossed the room and pushed it open, looking down at the drop on the other side and closed it again.I turned around and put my hands on my hips as I stood in the middle of the room in my robe with my hair still dripping water all over me from the bath I took not too long agoHailey’s heels had been clicking down the corridor not even ten minutes ago. “So she actually came to lock me in.”Nobody had ever locked me in a room.In my life, in the life before this one, not once had anyone looked at me and decided that was something they would ever do. I stood there and let the thought swallow me for a moment and then I walked back to the door and pressed both palms flat against it.I pushed harder this time but nothing moved.I separated my legs and spread my feet wider and pushed again with everything this soft borrowed body had and t

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    She Showed Up

Luca and Hailey’s POVHailey had picked our seats herself.Third row of the viewing gallery, centre, the best possible position to be seen without appearing to have chosen it for that reason. She had been ready an hour before we needed to leave, dressed, hair done, sitting at the edge of the bedroom chair like someone who had somewhere important to be and intended to arrive looking like it.I watched her check her reflection one more time in the car and said nothing. The hall was already full when we arrived, every family of standing in the town turning out, the energy sitting somewhere between reverence and barely contained curiosity. We took our seats and Hailey folded her hands in her lap and looked at the ceremony floor and I looked at the candidate line forming along the left wall.Fifteen women. All single, all of status, all dressed with the careful precision of people who understood what today meant.“She’s not coming,” H

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Luna    Lock Her In

Hailey’s POVI watched her walk out of that boutique with the gold dress in a bag and a smile she hadn’t even bothered to hide and I sat at that consultation table with two declined cards in front of me and a boutique assistant looking anywhere but at my face and I thought about everything I had given up to be sitting in this town in this house in this situation. Two years. Two years of being patient and soft and careful and saying the right things at the right volume and laughing at the right moments and making sure Luca always felt like the smartest person in the room. Two years of building something carefully, brick by brick, and then that woman had walked out of that house on an anniversary night and come back different and everything I had built started shifting in ways I could not control.I picked up my cards and put them in my bag and smiled at the assistant and walked out.By the time I got home I had made a decision.Lu
