LOGINMelindana’s POV
Julie had been stealing glances at me the entire thirty-five minutes she had been helping me get ready in this room, quick little looks she clearly thought I wasn’t noticing, moving around me like one wrong word would earn her a slap. She still moved around me like I was something that might go off without warning. Every time she came too close she did this thing where she held her breath slightly, hands quick and careful, retreating the second she was done with whatever task she had assigned herself. I watched her in the mirror while she worked and said nothing because I was still trying to understand what exactly the woman before me had done to this girl to make her this way. Whatever it was, it must have been significant. I turned back to my own reflection and looked at myself properly for the first time since last night. The face was genuinely beautiful, that much I had already established, but standing here in the full light of the dressing room with Julie hovering anxiously behind me I found myself thinking about what came attached to that face. A husband who was one strong wind away from losing his mind completely, a mistress currently sleeping two doors down the hall in a room I had personally ordered prepared for her, and a pack full of people who apparently needed a moment to recover every time I said good morning. I looked at my reflection for another second. Beautiful face. Spectacular circumstances. “Julie,” I said, watching her in the mirror as she straightened things on the dresser that were already straight. “Why won’t Luca just divorce me.” She went still and turned slowly, looking at me like she was trying to figure out if this was a trick question. “Luna…..” she started, then stopped, then started again. “Do you not remember? You fell in love with Alpha Luca at first sight at the wolf pack gathering. The marriage was officiated by the Lycan King himself.” She clasped her hands in front of her apron. “If Alpha Luca were to divorce you it would be going directly against the King’s order. Nobody does that.” So the woman whose body I had woken up in had not just fallen for that man, she had loved him so completely that she had pulled every string available to her, used every connection, leveraged her father’s name and his relationship with the Lycan King just to be standing exactly where I was standing right now. In this house. Married to that man. She had really dug her own grave. “Right,” I said, and turned away from the mirror to look through the dresses hanging in the glass case along the wall. The wardrobe was extensive and mostly good but leaned quieter than I would have chosen for myself. I liked clothes that said something when you walked into a room, that did not leave people wondering and guessing, and most of what was hanging here was beautiful but quiet. I pushed through the options slowly, making a mental note that a shopping trip needed to happen sooner rather than later. I kept pushing through the hangers until I found the ruby dress near the back. Ruby red, with a fitted neckline that sat exactly where it should sit on a woman who had something to show and knew it. I held it against myself in the mirror and nodded once. This would do for tonight. By the time I was fully dressed and had done my makeup the way I liked it, which took some adjusting because the products on the dresser were not ones I was familiar with but I worked with what was there, I looked exactly the way I wanted to look. The ruby dress against the ginger hair, the top of well oiled skin visible at the neckline, everything sitting exactly right. I had always believed that looking good was its own kind of armour and right now I needed all the armour I could find. I was reaching for the perfume on the dresser when Julie made a sound behind me, somewhere between a gasp and a word, and I turned around to find her with both hands pressed to her mouth staring at the jewellery tray with both hands pressed to her mouth. “Luna…..” Her voice came out thin. “Luna, I cannot find your pendant.” “My pendant.” “Your Luna pendant.” She was already moving, opening all the other drawers and checking boxes, her movements getting more frantic with every second that passed. “You always wear it to important occasions, the King expects to see it at formal events like tonight, Luna if you arrive without it….” she stopped herself, and took a breath. “Where did you last have it?” Luna please think. I had absolutely no freaking idea what she was talking about. I looked at the jewellery tray myself, scanning it, trying to identify which item might be the one she was panicking about, and came up with nothing useful because I didn’t know what I was looking for. “What does it look like,” I said. Julie’s hands stopped moving. She turned and looked at me with an expression I recognised immediately as the beginning of a question I did not want her to finish. Then she turned slowly and pointed at a framed photograph on the wall, a picture of the woman whose face I was wearing, dressed formally, something around her neck catching the light. I looked at it. A pendant, heavy looking ornate, the kind of thing that had been designed specifically to remind everyone in the room that the person wearing it had a title. “Oh,” I said. “That.” I waved my hand slightly. “Who even cares about it, the thing is honestly ugl…” I stopped myself immediately. Julie was really looking at me, it was starting to feel less than worry and more like she was putting something together piece by piece. I straightened my posture immediately and let my face do something more appropriate. “Oh my God, where could it possibly be, I love that pendant so much, it has to be here somewhere, Julie where is it…..” “Luna, it's alright.” Julie put her hand up gently, already moving toward the door. “I’m sure the King won’t make a big issue of it, not tonight. Let me go and check the sitting room, you may have left it there.” She walked out and I watched the door close behind her. I turned back to the mirror and looked at my reflection for a long moment. God, that thing was actually ugly. Fuck it, I had a lot of shit to put up with in this body.Just so no one is lost in the story line…..Bella (Arabella) died after she hit her head, this is melidana, she woke up in Bella’s body….not understanding where she is or the life she woke up to, she has to put up with some of Bella’s life….Melidana’s backstory on how she died is coming as the story progress….React to this if you now understand better💕💕
Melindana’s POVJulie was already in the wardrobe before I finished taking my bath.I came out with my hair wrapped and she was standing in front of the hanging dresses with her arms folded and her head tilted and her mouth doing the thing it did when she had already made a decision and was waiting for me to catch up to it.“The green one,” she said, without turning around.“I was also thinking the green one.”“I know.” She pulled it out and laid it across the bed and looked at me. “Where are we going.”I sat at the mirror and opened my makeup bag. “I’m going to the palace.”The room went quiet.“Alone,” I added.Julie stood with the dress across her arm and looked at my reflection and I looked back at hers and she pressed her lips together once and nodded slowly.“The King sent for you?,” she asked“Yes.”She set the dress down carefully. “Does Alpha Luca know.”“No.” I picked up my foundation brush. “And you should keep it that way, he doesn’t deserve to know.”She looked at me for
Melindana’s POVThe light in the sitting room was on when I pulled into the drive.I cut the engine and looked at it and picked up my bag and got out.Hailey was standing in the middle of the sitting room when I walked in, arms crossed, face carrying nothing soft on it. No pleasant smile. I set my bag down on the side table and looked at her.“Close the door,” she said.I was about to close it anyway, so I just did.“I’m going to say this once,” she started, her voice clipped and tight, “and I need you to actually listen because I am tired of dancing around it.” She dropped her arms. “I have been in this house longer than you think. I was working on Luca long before that anniversary night, long before you even knew my name, and everything that has happened since I walked through that door has gone exactly the way I planned it.”I looked at her in silence.“You think you’re winning something,” she continued, her voice rising slightly at the edges. “Walking around this house like you o
Aurelius’s Pov“Your Majesty.” Matthew’s voice again, tighter this time. “He says it’s urgent.”I looked at Mel standing at the window with her back slightly turned and her wrapped hand pressed against her stomach and I looked at the door and then I walked to it and pulled it open.Matthew straightened immediately.“Tell him to come back tomorrow,” I said.Matthew blinked once. “He was quite insistent, Your Majesty, he said…..”“Matthew.”“Yes.”“Tomorrow.”He nodded and turned and I pulled the door shut and turned back around.Mel had not moved from the window. She was looking out at whatever the grounds looked like at this hour with her shoulders straight and her wrapped hand still pressed to her stomach and her ginger hair falling forward slightly on one side.I stood there and looked at her and my wolf went quiet. Not the way I forced it quiet during the episodes, gripping windowsills and breathing through it. Just quiet. On its own. Like it had found what it had been looking for
Melindana’s POVHis nose was bleeding and he was looking at me like I was the only reason he was still standing.I moved toward him without thinking, crossed the room fast, and the low table sitting between us in the dark caught my shin so hard my whole leg buckled and I went sideways, my hand shooting out to catch myself on the decorative iron fixture mounted on the wall beside the door. The edge of it bit into my palm immediately.I hissed and pulled my hand back and looked at it, a clean cut running diagonal across the meat of my palm, blood already welling up thick and fast, and I pressed it into my chest instinctively and looked up at Aurelius. He had moved when I stumbled, crossed the distance between us in the time it took me to feel the pain, and he was right there, one hand on my arm steadying me, his face close, his eyes already dropping to my hand pressed against my chest.“Let me see it, Mel,” he said.“It’s fine, you’re the one bleeding, your nose…..”“Mel.” His voice cam
Melindana’s POVThe afternoon air hit my face the moment I pushed through the heavy doors and I kept walking, bag on my shoulder, heels steady on the stone steps so I didn't trip, the noise of the hall bleeding out behind me as people started filing out.I was three steps from the bottom when I heard him.“Bella.”I stopped at the bottom of the steps and turned around slowly. He was coming down the steps fast, jacket buttoned, jaw tight, and Hailey was right behind him, her face arranged back into something that almost looked calm if you didn’t know what it looked like when it wasn’t.Luca reached me and stopped close enough that he clearly intended the proximity to intimidate me.“How,” he said.“How what? I asked in genuine shock.”“Don’t start Bella.” His voice dropped. “The room was locked. I know it was locked. How did you get out?”I looked at him for a moment, then past him at Hailey, then back at him.“Get out of where, Luca?” I tilted my head slightly. “I was never locked in
Melindana’s POVI’ve tried the door handle a couple of times but it didn’t move.I stepped back, took a glance at the door properly then at the window and crossed the room and pushed it open, looking down at the drop on the other side and closed it again.I turned around and put my hands on my hips as I stood in the middle of the room in my robe with my hair still dripping water all over me from the bath I took not too long agoHailey’s heels had been clicking down the corridor not even ten minutes ago. “So she actually came to lock me in.”Nobody had ever locked me in a room.In my life, in the life before this one, not once had anyone looked at me and decided that was something they would ever do. I stood there and let the thought swallow me for a moment and then I walked back to the door and pressed both palms flat against it.I pushed harder this time but nothing moved.I separated my legs and spread my feet wider and pushed again with everything this soft borrowed body had and t

Melindana’s POVI was in the middle of a perfectly good dream that I was not ready to leave when something pulled me out of it, a presence in the room that did not belong there, standing entirely too close to my bed for this hour of the morning. I opened my eyes slowly and the first thing I saw wa

Melindana’s POVI woke up on a cold hard floor, something damp soaking through the fabric at my back and a pain in my head so severe that when I tried to open my eyes the darkness behind them felt safer.
