The Pack's judgmental look threatened to destabilize her, but Deborah sought comfort in her mate, knowing that none of it would matter, as long as Iron was with her.
He had made her happier in that last year than she had ever been in her entire life, after all. Deborah trusted her mate to help her face the challenges of being a queen. The contempt of those wolves was just an obstacle on the path to the happy life they would build together.
As the mating ceremony etiquette dictated, Iron turned her toward him, holding her hand in front of all those witnesses, making her chest swell with that warm joy that Deborah could never have imagined would be bestowed upon someone like her, who had not been considered by the Goddess as worthy of having more than one form.
However, Iron did not return her smile or appear to notice the caress of her thumb on his palm, when he began to speak.
“It is my duty as Alpha, once I have found my fated mate, to stand before the four packs, as your Alpha and your King, to make it clear to everyone who will be your queen, the other wolf responsible for protecting and honoring the Kingdom.” Iron said, his commanding voice reverberating around, as his eyes remained fixed on Deborah and her emotional smile “That is why, Deborah Atkins, I, Iron Aster...” his fangs peeked out from between his lips in a menacing manner “Reject you as my mate.”
A second passed. Two. Everything seemed to freeze around her, but somehow, Deborah was still able to mutter, the shock making her feel weak.
“What?”
“You didn't really think I would take the wolfless woman like you, did you? Your existence in our pack is shameful enough. I would never put something as precious as the crown on your head. From now on, you will only serve to appease the heat of my wolf, when strictly necessary.” Iron proclaimed, his expression hardened with hatred, very different from the man she had fallen in love with "As the one who will stand by my side to produce an heir..." he left her side, walking over to Evangeline, who Deborah didn't even realized that had approached “I choose you, Evangeline Atkins. The female wolf with the purest bloodline in this kingdom. You shall treat her as my partner...” his hand cupped Evangeline’s chin roughly “And as my wife.”
A part of Deborah even considered that this could be a nightmare, but the moment Iron pulled her cousin close and crushed his lips against hers, she realized it wasn't. This was all very real. And, when that rough kiss between the two finally ended, Evangeline looked up in his direction, with a small smile on her flushed face.
“I’m sorry, Debbie. But, these are the King's orders. What can I do?”
“No ceremonies will take place today, but everyone can eat and celebrate as much as they want.” Iron, or rather, that cruel man that Deborah didn't recognize, turned to her, disdainful “You, follow us. And don't you dare try to escape. From today onwards, you are one of my possessions and you will not go anywhere without my orders.” He growled, placing Evangeline’s hand on his arm “You’re no good for anything else, anyway.”
Without another word, Iron began to walk away, with a smiling Evangeline leaning against him. And, as the wolves there began to sneer at her and laugh at the great show the Alpha had planned for them, Deborah felt tears streaming down her cheeks, so hot and painful that they felt like were trying to cut through her skin. Turn it into pieces, just like her heart was, at that moment.
No, it was silly to say that her heart was broken.
She just didn't have a heart anymore.
Deborah stood completely still for a moment, trying to organize her mind and prepare herself for what was to come, instead of panicking. Unfortunately, however, this also gave Iron enough time to pull the window up, breaking the pure steel locks that held it in place. And, in the next instant, without Deborah being able to do anything to stop it, that man was already inside her children's room, staring at her as if she had pierced his chest and ripped out his heart.“You… You gave birth to cubs…” he mumbled, his voice sounding strangled as he looked around at the toys strewn across the floor and the beds with colorful sheets “Our cubs!”“No. My cubs.” Deborah rolled her eyes, focusing only on the destroyed window to avoid his gaze “And, thanks. Now my children will spend the night getting drafty and probably catching a cold…”“I saw them!” Iron growled, stepping closer to her as if ready to grab her arm “I saw their faces, especially the eyes of that little girl… My daughter…” he murm
“Oh, my sweet Goddess…” Dawn gasped, her body dropping towards the floor as they found themselves in front of the door to their family’s apartment, the hallways around them thankfully empty “I’ll never get used to this teleportation thing.”“Yeah, I guess so do I…” Deborah had to summon all her strength to hold her friend in place, even though her head was spinning like she was about to pass out “It always… Sucks the life out of me. But, hey, are you okay?”“I’m the one who should be asking you this…” Dawn lamented, staring at her with a mix of concern and pity “I mean, it seems like with each generation of my family our wolves go more dormant, so I’ll never really know what it’s like, but my father always says the feeling of finding your fated mate is overwhelming. I hate the idea that bastard almost let a pack of mad wolves burn you to death and now…”“Now my wolf still keeps me tied to him?” she laughed humorlessly “Don’t worry. He made sure to replace every good memory I had with r
The cold night air hit Deborah’s face like a slap when they finally reached the outside of the club. But, ironically, she felt like this was exactly what she needed. The smell of only humans, the modern streets around her, the night filled with the lights and sounds of the city. This was the human land. Her land. She was no longer part of the pack. She had nothing to fear, even if Iron was here now.She stood with her back to him, staring at the waning moon in the sky and waiting for him to start talking, but nothing happened. Iron remained where he was, the weight of his gaze on her back pricking her skin like needles. It was so ironic that, when she was still the shame of the pack, the girl who didn't have a wolf inside her, the attraction she felt for Iron seemed so much more genuine. Because it came from her heart. Now, all her wolf wanted to do was curl up around him and mate, but Deborah couldn't wait for this conversation to be over and to be able to put as much distance between
The club was everything Deborah had imagined it would be: hot, loud, and with a strong smell of booze that made her keen sense of smell twitch. The loud music seemed to make the floor vibrate, and with every step she took deeper into the dancing crowd and flashing lights, she could feel a new pair of eyes turning in her direction.“Hey, honey.” a man spoke nearby, his voice slurred from the alcohol “Are you free? I’d love to burn myself in a little flame like you…”“I think maybe we shouldn’t have invited Deborah. She’s stealing all the guys’ attention for herself.” Beth said, a smile on her face, but her voice more acidic than even she intended.“At least try to hide your jealousy, Beth.” Dawn rolled her eyes, seeming to be shouting at the top of her lungs to make herself heard “I’m disappointed in you. Is that really the kind of guy you want, with that kind of bad pick-up line?”“I’m not being jealous…” Dawn’s friend whined, pouting “I’m just saying… It’s hard enough to compete with
Deborah knew perfectly well when she was in a dream. She had learned that the hard way, after five years of dreams just like this one. Night after night, she found herself in that exact spot, sitting in that glade in the moonlight, with nothing else to do but stand there and stare at the wolf that had never stopped secretly tormenting her, despite the distance.Iron.It was always like that in those dreams: they would stand in front of each other, with only a few feet separating them, but they could never touch. As if there was an invisible barrier between them, preventing Deborah from getting closer or even away from him. All she could do was stand there, staring at him, until she woke up. He couldn't speak, though. Something about the determined expression he wore sometimes gave Deborah the distinct impression that he tried, but never succeeded. Which was a good thing. She didn't need any more memories of the past. His face was enough and, if she could choose, she would forget even
Hello, everyone! First of all, I would like to apologize to everyone who has been waiting for updates on this story for almost a year. My personal life has been hectic lately and, because I have been short on time, I chose to focus on my other story (Revenge with my Ex-Fiancé's Billionaire Brother) which was already halfway through and had readers waiting for an ending. However, now that story is finished and I could finally start updating The Lycan King's Unforgivable Mistake! ^^Again, I apologize to everyone who has waited so long for this story. For now, I will only be posting one chapter per day, but I hope to increase that over time, especially since I plan for this story to be a little shorter than the others I have here on the platform.Thank you so much to everyone who is reading this and still choosing to give this story a chance, despite the delay!Let's finally start Deborah's story! See you tomorrow with another chapter!
