CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO

Mirabel’s brows flinched before her eyes began to move beneath her lids then she coughed out hard before she finally opened her eyes wide and just stared at the sky for a while. Everything that had happened slowly came back to her as she slowly remembered it all and she sighed before she closed her eyes again while palming her face. After a while of wallowing in her grief, she decided it was time to get up and do something because nothing was going to change if she kept on laying there on the ground.

She sat up and looked around, all that remained of most of the pack was just ashes and debris, and not far from her lay her parent's bodies. She rushed up to them and when she checked, they were already all stiff and white as their blank lifeless eyes stared at her. She was more mortified by the sight of the bullet hole on her father’s forehead and she dragged in a shaky breath as she took in their sight before she hugged them both to herself as she began to shed tears again.

“I swear to make him pay, I'll take his life myself and justify your deaths. I promise” she said to them and sniffed, then she stood up and went further, a little distance from them before she began to dig with her claws. Soon, she was done digging and she returned to get their bodies then she laid them both before she watched them for a while longer and finally covered them up after a while. She finished and dragged in a long breath again before she stood up and looked at what was once the palace of a pack but existed no more. Everything was gone, members of the pack were dead and there was nothing she could do to get them all back.

She wasn't even old enough for mating yet so how could she possibly be able to figure out what to do on her own? She was going to be alone for a while and had no choice but to find a way though because she couldn't die, she was going to get her revenge on king Mortis for destroying her pack, it's members and her parents so she had to find a way to survive no matter what until she had executed her greatest desire which was seeing king Mortis in pain that she would cause him and she was going to see to it until the end.

She snapped out of her angry thoughts and made her way toward the palace remains to see if she would find anything that would be useful to her but there was nothing that could be of use in the remains so she sighed before she walked away from the spot to see if anyone survived the attack.

It was almost dark and still there was no sight of anyone after walking for so long, she was at the verge of giving up due to how tired she was when she heard voices and groans not too far from where she stood so she rushed off to check and she saw two people who looked like they were in a lot of pain as they struggled to help each other walk.

“Hello” she called out immediately she saw them as hope filled her up and she didn't feel so alone anymore on seeing that few people survived the attack in the pack. The two survivors of the pack turned once they heard her and she rushed up to them to speak to them.

“I'm princess Mirabel and I was also lucky enough to escape after they killed my parents, the king and queen. You both are?” she introduced herself and waited for them to speak as they both looked at her.

“We are Lucky and Stella, our parents were killed too during the battle because they were soldiers and now Lucky is bleeding and we need to stop the bleeding before it's too late, I don't want to lose my brother” Stella, the girl who looked like she was also Mirabel’s age answered as she held onto her brother who seemed like he was her twin and looked half conscious and pale with a worried look on her face.

“Okay, nice to meet you Stella. First, we have to find our way out of here before king Mortis returns, just in case he decides that he is going to return to kill anyone that survived,” Mirabel said and Stella nodded as she swallowed in fear.

“Come on let’s move on, we don't have much time on our side,” Mirabel added as she helped Stella hold onto her brother and they kept on moving while Lucky kept on groaning in pain from the injury he got on his stomach during the attack.

Little by little, they moved on and on even when it turned completely dark and there was no way to see but lucky for them, they could see in the dark because they were lycans so it wasn't so hard to transport themselves to whatever shelter they found first.

The night dragged on for quite a long time and they were still on the move but there was still no shelter in sight. Suddenly, Lucky began to groan out in pain.

“I can't, we have to stop please, it hurts too much to move on” he managed to get out with so much pain that he felt in his abdomen and Stella and Mirabel stopped immediately. They helped him lay down on the ground before they sat beside him and Stella tore off a part of her shirt again to help apply pressure on his wound that was still bleeding little by little.

“Please stay with me Lucky. I need you, we already lost mum and dad and I can't lose you too, please stay with me” Stella pleaded with him as he breathed heavily and sweat broke out on his forehead so she wiped it off with her palm. Mirabel who was just watching them was close to tears too as she remembered her dead parents but she held herself back from crying anymore.

“How did he get injured?” she asked stella and she sniffed before she replied.

“He was shot in the stomach when he shifted to fight the attackers that killed our parents” Stella explained and Mirabel felt sorry for their loss.

She checked the wound and with the little that she had learnt from being homeschooled, she knew that it was getting worse as each minute passed and if something wasn't done about it, they were probably going to lose Lucky and it was definitely going to destroy Stella if that happened.

She was also devastated after losing her parents too but she was good at masking it while trying to show that she was fine even though she wasn't. Only that she didn't think Stella was going to be strong enough to endure her brother’s loss.

“We have to keep on moving no matter what. His wound isn't looking so great and he's still bleeding too much. I'm sure we'll find somewhere soon so we have to keep on moving Stella” she said and Lucky who was still half-conscious began to sob as he shook his head on hearing what Mirabel said.

“I can't, I really can't anymore Stella. Maybe you should just let me die here and move on. I'm in so much pain” he said and Mirabel shook her head immediately.

“We can't leave you behind Lucky, I'm going to shift and carry you if I have to. We are the only survivors and we are family now, we can't lose anyone again, okay” she said to them and Stella swallowed again as she looked at her with hopeless and tired eyes.

They weren't many, but Mirabel knew that they were now both looking up to her as the princess and she had to do something to save Lucky no matter what.

She was the princess and was literally the new leader of the lycans that survived, which was the three of them so she had to come up with something immediately. She looked around and it was just a vast empty land. It seemed hopeless to keep on moving on with no direction in mind but it would also be stupid to just remain in one spot and die together… not when she hadn't gotten her revenge. That thought fueled her and suddenly, there was a new burst of energy in her so she stood up while Stella and Lucky’s eyes followed her.

“I'm going to shift and carry Lucky since I'm stronger and we’ll keep on going until we find anywhere that there may be people who would help us” she said to Stella and she nodded before she joined her to help Lucky up then she took a few steps back to shift and they watched.

Once she was done, she went closer to them and with Stella's help, Lucky was able to get on her back and they continued their journey as they kept on moving through the dark night.

Morning came, and there was still nothing in sight but they kept on moving because they had hope that they would get help soon.

Soon, it was noon and from afar, Mirabel saw a reflection of lights scattered around a building. Quickly, she stopped and gently dropped Lucky to the floor with Stella's help before she shifted back to her human form and faced her.

“I can see lights from here Stella. I think we should hide our identities as lycans for now so no one would know in case king Mortis has a spy there” she said and Stella understood immediately. Quickly, she and Mirabel helped Lucky up and they walked the rest of the way to the building with the lights around it.

They arrived at the door to the place after a while and they could see that it wasn't as crowded as they expected. Stella and Mirabel shared a look before Mirabel knocked on the door and it opened up almost immediately. The woman at the door eyed them all from head to toe as she chewed on a gum then she made way for them to come in after seeing Lucky’s condition and they did while they still helped Lucky to walk in.

“How may I help you?” the woman asked as Stella and Mirabel looked around and realized the place was actually a bar. Why was there a bar in the middle of nowhere?

“Our friend was attacked and we were looking for where we could treat him so he wouldn't die. He has lost a lot of blood” Mirabel explained and the woman looked at them a bit longer before she turned around and waved at them.

“Follow me then” she said and they did at once. They got to a door and the woman stopped before opening the door for them to go in which they did and laid Lucky on the only bed that was there.

“I'll be back in a few minutes to treat him, there are clothes in the drawer over there for you to wear when you take a shower because you all stink,” she said and with that she was gone.

Mirabel and Stella quickly took their baths and both dressed up in the shirts and trousers that they found in the drawers when they were done. The woman soon returned with a first aid box to treat Lucky who had almost passed out already and they both watched her as she sat beside the bed and checked his wound. She made a face on seeing it then she looked back at Mirabel and Stella.

“I have one condition before I treat him” she said and Stella nodded immediately.

“Of course, anything please, just save him and I'll do it” she replied and the woman smirked.

“I would ask no questions about what happened but you would work for me until I'm ready to let you all go. Deal?” She offered and Mirabel and Stella shared a look.

It was a good offer. The bar was in the middle of nowhere, the woman wasn't going to interrogate them so it was a good way to hide until they would figure out what to do… as long as Lucky would live.

They looked back at the woman who was waiting for an answer and they both nodded at the same time in agreement to her offer.

“Deal” they said and she smiled before she turned back to Lucky and held her hand over his wound. She closed her eyes and began to chant some spells and just like that, Lucky's wound vanished but the place still had a purple tint.

Mirabel and Stella looked at her in disbelief as she stood up and stretched her hand at them.

“Nice to meet you both, I'm madam Suzy and also the owner of this bar that welcomes anyone; outcast or not. Oh! I'm also a witch so no one messes with me” she introduced herself with a smile and pointed at Lucky who was asleep.

“He still needs a few days to recover but your training begins tomorrow… So what are your names?” she added and asked them but they just stared at her in awe.

What just happened? They had never met a witch.
