I groaned as light from the window pierced through my eyes, I knew it was morning but I felt no motivation to stand up. Yesterday's discovery at the study still tormented me and deprived me of sleep throughout the night. I unconsciously pricked my ears to hear them even after I laid down on the bed, I heard them leave the study, shower in Tyler's room and Nabita leaving. It was painful to listen to but I didn't stop, maybe it would hurt me enough to make me fall into a very deep sleep that I would not wake up from. But it did the exact opposite, now I was awake with bloodshot eyes, an aching heart and no motivation to get up.
Heavy knocking from the door jolted me from my thoughts, before I could ask who was that, the door swung open with aggression and Tyler entered fuming.
“Why are you not dressed, Uriah? The annual gala is starting in a few minutes, how would it look if the host comes late? What is wrong with you?” he asked angrily.
I stood up slowly with a blank face and faced Tyler. He pulled me aggressively to the mirror to see my reflection, “Just look at you, how can a dirty Luna welcome the honored guests huh? The Lycan king will be attending, is this how you will embarrass me?” he asked.
“I ... I ...” I didn't know what to say as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my hair was a mess and my makeup from yesterday looked hideous.
“You better not screw this up for me or else I'll teach you a lesson. Get dressed quickly and meet me at the party venue” He instructed before storming off.
I sighed and dragged myself to the bathroom. I felt sad that he couldn't wait for me to get dressed. After showering I got busy with getting dressed, my dress had already picked out Tyler, according to him how we are dressed is enough to boost up the pack's reputation. It was a sequined black dress that trailed to the ground with a high slit by the side. It had a gathered front that was held by a small strap, leaving my back open.
I hurriedly finished my makeup and my hair before putting on my red stilettos, grabbing my purse and walking out the pack house. There was already a car and a driver waiting for me so I got in and we drove to the hall. We had built a large hall separately, it was just a 3 minutes drive from the main pack house.
I arrived at the hall and stepped out of the car with a plastered smile on my face. The hall was beautifully decorated which I personally oversaw. The theme was “Red carpet”, so I decorated it like the ones humans held. There was a red carpet that led inside the hall and the hall was beautifully decorated with chandeliers, buffet tables and background wallpaper to take pictures. I looked around proudly as I entered, spotting Tyler socializing with the other Alphas. Our eyes met but he looked away in a second. I thought I was beautifully dressed but no matter how hard I tried, Tyler can never be caught looking twice.
I didn't bother walking to him, I saw a group of Lunas chatting by one of the buffets and met with them instead.
“Hello ladies, I hope you are enjoying the party” I said with a cheerful smile, I recognized three Lunas from the group of five.
“The party is awesome, you guys ready outdid yourselves” The blonde one who I recognized as Celia said. I laughed back proudly.
“New Lunas this is the host Luna, Uriah. Uriah this is Luna Pina and Luna Sande, they became Lunas a few months ago” Celia introduced.
I was about to say something but I was interrupted by Sande, “You're the host Luna? I thought that was her, she matched with the Alpha and they have been acting like a real couple since I walked in” She said with a taunting smile as she pointed with her finger
The smile on my face disappeared as I turned to look at the direction she was pointing to. It was Nabita dressed in a black dress with touches of maroon on it, it was the same color Tyler wore in his suit. I felt my heartbreak as I tried to keep my smiling face up. Nabita turned to meet my eye then smiled at me in a mocking way.
“Uhm... excuse me” I said to the ladies before walking away. I struggled to keep the tears at bay with my head bowed when I was suddenly blocked by Nabita.
“What do you want?” I asked irritatedly with a fake smile on.
“Aww... is Uriah teary? Do you want to go to a corner and cry?” She cooed with an annoying baby voice and hand gestures of a baby crying.
I rolled my eyes at her and attempted to bypass her but she blocked me again with her finger poking my chest. “Where do you think you are going? and what the hell are you wearing?”
I still didn't reply so she continued, “One could tell with a simple look that you are the odd one out in the group of lunas” She chuckled.
That topped off the lid and I eyed her angrily, “You may be the most beautiful woman here but I am still Luna. I hold the crown, not you” I said to her face.
“You are not worthy of being Luna, your crown was a mistake. If not that my father took you in and gave you the family name by adoption, you would have been a rogue by now or better still, dead. You got your crown by lying” she retorted
“I did no such thing, side chick is where you will always belong” I hissed.
That struck a nerve as Nabita raised her hand to slap me in anger but I blocked just in time. That gathered the attention of the crowd who were already staring at our heated conversation.
“What's going on here?” Tyler's voice sounded as he walked over. Nabita suddenly turned and ran into his arms feigning tears.
“Uriah is nothing but a big bully, she said she doesn't like my dress and that I should change it, when I told her no, she attempted to hit me” She whined sadly.
Tyler turned to me, his nose flaring with anger, “You little witch, you so much want to spoil the reputation of my pack right? how is it Nabita's fault that you are so ugly huh?” He questioned with his hands around Nabita, petting her on the back.
I felt my eyes clouding with tears but I pushed it back. Everyone here saw Nabita raising her hand at me but Tyler still took her side, that goes to show how much he really cared about me. Nabita pulled away from him and threw a victory smile at me.
I quickly pointed at her face, “ See, she just smi...” I was interrupted by Tyler as he pushed me.
“I'm right here and you still want to slap her again?” he said as he shielded Nabita.
I thought I was going to hit the ground but was suddenly caught by someone. I turned to see the dashing face of a handsome man with piercing blue eyes staring back at me, His large hands held my waist and my hands hung around his neck by reflex.
“Omg, it's Xavier”
“Who is he?”
“The new Lycan king”
Uriahs POV:After my intense confrontation with Alpha Denzer, the days that followed were surprisingly calm and peaceful – or at least as peaceful as they could be in such a grim situation. I had made a choice, a difficult one, to act like a devoted mate to Denzer for the sake of my son, Arion. While I couldn't bear the thought of being intimate with him, I had to keep up the act to keep my son safe.Denzer seemed to give me space, and I was grateful for that. He didn't push himself on me, and I took advantage of this by keeping my distance whenever he tried to be close. I always found an excuse or pretended to be occupied with some task, making sure there was a barrier between us at all times. It was a delicate balance, not too submissive, but not too rebellious either. I knew that the moment I resisted too much, it could endanger Arion's life.In the days that followed, I spent most of my time with Arion. Alpha Denzer allowed me to be with him, and I cherished every moment we ha
Xavier's POV:I immediately summoned the pack members and relayed my suspicions. "Anya might have acted through a proxy," I explained. "It's time we find out who might have helped her."Lucas and the others nodded in agreement, and the search took a new direction. We questioned every pack member, and it wasn't long before we found a lead—a young wolf who seemed nervous and evasive."Tell me the truth," I demanded, staring into the young wolf's eyes. "Did you have any involvement in Uriah's kidnapping?"His gaze shifted, and he hesitated before finally confessing. "Yes, Alpha. Anya coerced me into helping her. She threatened my family if I didn't do as she said."My heart sank, realizing that Anya's web of deception had ensnared others as well. "You will be forgiven if you cooperate fully," I said sternly. "Tell me everything you know about the kidnapping."He hesitated, fear still evident in his eyes, but he eventually provided valuable information. He revealed the location where Any
Xavier's POVI stood in my study, my mind focused on the task at hand. I needed to find Uriah, and to do that, I had to start from the beginning. My instincts told me that Anya had been hiding something, and I needed to confirm my suspicions."Beta Lucas," I called, my voice steady. Lucas was one of my most trusted advisors, and I knew I could rely on his judgment. He entered the room promptly, bowing respectfully. "Alpha Xavier, you called for me?""Yes," I replied, "I need you to gather a team of our best trackers and investigate the place where Uriah was last seen with Anya before she was kidnapped."Lucas furrowed his brow. "But Anya claimed that Uriah willingly left with Alpha Denzer on her own."I fixed him with a cold look. "Anya had hidden herself and her ambitions very well. She wouldn't make up a story about Uriah leaving of her own free will with Alpha Denzer."Lucas hesitated for a moment, then nodded in understanding. "You're right, Alpha. I apologize for being short-sigh
Xavier's POV:After the party celebrating Alex's first birthday, the little one was sent back to his room with the help of his nanny. Meanwhile, the elders, including Anya, and I had gathered for a small gathering. Food and drinks were brought out, but no one dared to bring up Uriah's missing issue. They all knew my temper, and they didn't want to risk annoying me further. As I took a seat at the table, the elders greeted me warmly. "Alpha Xavier, it's good to see you join us," one elder said with a smile."Yes, it's been a while since we all gathered like this," added another elder."I'm glad we can come together and celebrate," I replied, trying my best to appear relaxed.Anya, sitting next to me, chimed in, "Indeed, it's a joyous occasion. Baby Alex's first birthday is a momentous event for the pack."Another elder raised his glass and said, "To the future of our pack and to the health and happiness of our young Alpha."We all clinked our glasses together, toasting to the well-
Xavier's POV: As the days stretched on, the search parties scoured the forests and neighboring territories tirelessly. We followed every lead and pursued every possible clue, but Uriah seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth. Then, one day, as I was contemplating our next move in the study, I received a message that Anya wanted to see me again. This time, I rushed to her room with a mix of hope and anxiety. Upon entering, I saw her lying on the bed, her face still pale and her eyes red from crying. I approached her cautiously, unsure of what to expect. "Anya," I said gently, "how are you feeling?" She looked up at me, her expression filled with sorrow and regret. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she began to apologize profusely. "Alpha Xavier, I'm so sorry. I betrayed your trust, and I couldn't protect Uriah," Anya begged. “It's okay,” I said with a calm look as I looked at her . “I am suppose to protect this pack. But all that I have done is cause pains. I'm no
Xavier's POV:Days turned into weeks, and the search for Uriah seemed to be fruitless. Every lead we pursued turned out to be a dead end, and my heart sank with each passing day. Anya remained in a coma, and she was the only person who could shed light on what exactly happened in the forest that fateful night. One day, as I was discussing some ideas with the pack's scouts on how to track Uriah, I received urgent news that Anya had awakened. I hurriedly left the study room and rushed straight to Anya's room. When I entered, I saw her lying on the bed, her face pale and her eyes filled with tears. My heart softened at the sight of her vulnerability, but I pushed away my emotions, focusing on the urgency of the situation."Anya," I said coldly, trying to hide my own turmoil, "what were you doing in the forest that day with Uriah?"Tears streamed down Anya's face, and she began to beg for forgiveness. But I couldn't afford to be swayed by emotions. I needed answers. She stammered, "Uriah.
