20. Haemera: The Prophesied Doom

"Vincent!!" Lynn screamed and they rushed over to his body.

Emris gritted his teeth and slammed his fist into the ground.

*Not again.* He growled. *Not this again!*

The sound of Lynn's cry filled the air, and Faye watched them mourn. She stared at Emris' back, slouched as it carried the weight of regret.

She could tell that he was already blaming himself. She could tell that he was already killing himself on the inside.

Their bond was over, but she felt his pain consume her, and her heart ached. Not just because of him, but because Vincent may have been the quiet Uncle who hated her, but he also ran to protect her. So did Lynn.

The Rune family...protected her no matter what.

"I'll risk it." She breathed, then stood to her feet.

Ryuu -already healed- looked at her with furrowed brows, then followed her.

Faye sat next to Vincent's body, then held Lynn's shoulder.

"I'm sorry." She whispered. "I'll make it better."
