SLOANE

The car ride was quiet and tense, the type that hinted at something serious looming.

It wasn't just about cold feet, or some tension because of the killer next to me, it was something else.

I could feel it in my blood, in my bones and in my veins. The same way the wind danced with my hair.

The city seemed different, brighter than I remembered it.

Beautiful in a way that feels rare, being locked away made me appreciate the little things.

I saw the buildings and how everything moved in a blur, for a second I could feel a tear of drop running down my face.

I gasped and immediately checked the mirror I had inside my bag.

It was a false alarm. My mind was playing tricks on me and I was falling for it.

The second later the car came to a halt, I heard the wedding bells literally.

I saw a big church with doors so wide, my wedding train can fit in perfectly. I scoffed, of course Chase loved this.

The men at the entrance of the church all wore navy blue suits, white gloves and c

CHASEI caught her at the doorway before she could vanish, that instinct kicking in before reason had a chance to register.“You’re not going anywhere,” I said, God she doesn't listen, she just acts. Her eyes met with mine. “I’m not running,” she snapped. “I just… need to refresh. I’m… stained.” Her voice softened, her cheeks were flushed. I took a step closer, closing the distance she tried to claim for herself. “Use my bathroom,” I ordered. She blinked at me, confused. “Your—?”“Mine,” I said, cutting her off before she could argue. My eyes didn’t leave hers. “Now.”Her jaw tensed. “I need… a tampon.” She looked away, embarrassed, I smirked, because she thought she had leverage here. “I’ll send Annika for whatever you need.”The fight left her shoulders in an instant, it was very satisfying to watch. She didn’t argue. She turned, reluctantly, toward my bathroom.I stayed where I was, watching her retreating form. The way her hair swung lightly as she moved, the curve of her

SLOANE Chase tasted so much better than the embarrassment that took over my mouth, before I pulled us apart, and for a second, we just stared at each other, my lips still burning from what he had just done to me. I pushed back, turning away from him fast. Like the space between us could erase what just happened. I turned away and hid my face in the pillow.I immediately pretended to be asleep, I didn’t snore. Chase tasted like wine: sweet, dark, and wrong. I had no business knowing that, sure we are married but no. The reality of it hit me all at once. My senses snapped back, knocking the air out of me.I wanted to forget. But I couldn’t. My lips tingled like they had recognized his lips from previous lives. I panted, if I had a watch that tracked my heart rate. It would spike so much right now that my doctor would ask if I had a health problem. And worse: my mind wouldn’t let me rest.I kept replaying it, every stolen second. The way he caught me off guard, his hand grippin

CHASEI heard the loud scream and I jerked off my sleep, my eyes snapped open, fear hit me and I knew it was Sloane.I didn’t even think. I removed the duvet and watched her, maybe it was just that- maybe she wouldn’t scream again. But she did. Sloane screamed again, seconds later; a cry for help with desperation. I immediately went to her instantly, closing whatever gap was between us. Tears ran down her face, she trembled and curled like a baby. “Shh… it’s okay,” I said as I comforted her, I pulled her close and I patted her back, like she was a baby. In a way she was. She was my baby. I hugged her, I thought my hug would reduce whatever pain she was going through. She cried, slowly and softly. The type that showed she was seconds away from wailing. Sloane didn’t look or act like the stubborn girl that didn’t want to stay in the room tonight. She was different, Sloane was softer at the moment. If anyone told me that Sloane, my Sloane, had a soft side, I would argue. I

SLOANEMy eyes fluttered, I was convinced he was going to lean in, that he was going to kiss me, that: the soft press wasn't the end. Actually, I had hoped that we would kiss and the tension that had been building for weeks would snap and we wouldn't care anymore. At least that's how it is in movies and books. But he didn't, instead he stepped back. This time, he took off his shirt and I couldn’t look away. Not because I wanted to, but because I couldn’t.His toned abs, his muscles and his chest: he has tattoos all over. My mind betrayed me.I imagined my fingers brushing along the tattoo, tracing the patterns and hoped that I would just stare. I imagined how it would feel if I sat on him and touched his skin. I loved what my mind had conjured up, but my thoughts scrambled when he spoke. “You staring or taking mental notes?” He asked, I could see his smirk.Clearly enjoying the fact that he knew exactly what he was doing and how it affected. I went to his bed and laid there lik

ChaseShe opened her mouth the second I told her she’d be sleeping in my room.Of course she did. Sloane never takes an order without baring her teeth first. But I wasn’t in the mood to hear her defiance tonight. Not when the fire in her eyes already set something hot and sharp crawling beneath my skin.“Don’t,” I snapped.I did that to cut her protest, I didn't need it. “It’s not a request, Sloane. You’re sleeping in my room tonight. I don’t trust you alone in yours anymore.” Her jaw locked tight, the muscles twitching as if she wanted to spit venom at me, she could? She would! And God, she looked beautiful like that… furious, cornered, alive. She didn’t understand what it did to me, watching her fight me even when she had no chance of winning. She dropped her shoulders, and we stood in front of my door. When I reached it, I pushed the door open and stood aside. I swore under my breath.“Why are you so goddamn stubborn?”She lifted her chin. God it was a distraction; the way she

Sloane “Were you spying on me! Were you listening to my private conversations?” I yelled, my voice shook, but I didn’t mine. “You sit there listening in the shadows like some... some parasite. Do you enjoy it? Do you like prying into things that aren’t yours? You are literally spying on me.” I snapped, like he always does. "I don’t spy like you! This is my house," he snapped, like I expected. For a second, I just stared at him, I wanted to yell, I wanted to– instead I scoffed. My house. That’s what he called it: as if I was a guest, an intruder. Like I didn't matter, I blinked fast. His face turned dark, he was calm before, suddenly he became something else. He didn’t rush his steps. Chase never rushed anything, he was always so dangerously calm. And that always pissed me off, it always made me question everything. I froze, I wanted to step back, to give him space, but I was too angry, too stupid to move.He moved closer to me, he closed the space between us. I could smell
