At night, as June lay beside Ellie, the only thought that filled her mind was her discussion with Ellie.

Going back to school.

Her hand rested on her stomach? Could she do that with pregnancy and also work at the same time?

It seemed impossible.

If it were just herself, she would have picked going to school anytime.

Before getting married, she had always wanted to become a medical doctor. She had placed the care of others above everything. It was one of the reasons, she had easily fallen into place taking care of Rauf without a caregiver.

And back then, her nose was always in a book. It was how she had been able to maintain that brilliant result Ellie was talking about.

But now, she had this child coming and she had to think of it first. School wasn't what she needed now.

She needed money.

She needed to register at a hospital and also to gather money to buy things her baby would need.

Regardless of what Rauf claimed, her child was a Salvador heir and she would do all she could to give her the life she deserved as a Salvador.

"Are you still awake?" Ellie's voice was hoarsed. She had temporarily woken up from her sleep and saw June still wide awake.

June shut her eyes, quick. "I'm sleeping."

A low chuckle left Ellie's lips. "Yeah. Yeah. You're dreaming. Come on, let's sleep. You need to rest well for the baby to grow properly."

June nodded, she felt a lone tear dropped from her eyes. Instantly, she wiped it off.

She wasn't going to cry. It was no good for her and the unborn baby.

When morning broke, June was the first to wake.

She moved easily around June's small apartment as she arranged it. By the time June woke up to prepare for work, the apartment was already spotless and neat.

And there was a breakfast sitting on her dinner.

"Come on, June. You're going to spoil me."Ellie murmured as she ate her breakfast.

For the first thing since Rauf had denied her, June let out a soft chuckle. "It's nothing. I'm used to doing all of this. I wake up early to help Rauf do this, so I can spend more time with him when he wakes up."

Ellie stopped eating and stared at her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to let you bring him up again."

June waved her hand. "It's nothing."

But within, she knew it was everything. Rauf wasn't just a fleeting moment she could forget because she wanted to. He was constant in her life for five years.

And it would take a lot before she started forgetting about him.

"So, did you think about what I said?" Ellie started. She was determined to get June busy, so her mind could be off that cruel husband of hers.

June nodded, playing with her fingers. "Yeah, I did. Thank you, but I don't think I can both go to school and work while I am pregnant. I need to work for money first."

Ellie wanted to pursue her but with the way June's lip was set in a thin line. It meant she had made her decision. "Fine. If that's what you want. It's something."

June beamed up, "Thank you, Ellie."

"No mention." Ellie continued. "So, I'm actually thinking of relocating to New Central State."

June frowned. "New Central State? Why?"

Ellie slumed on the seat. "Ever since Jason broke up with me, my life here had been stagnant. It had finished. I had been thinking of it and hadn't make any decision. But now," she looked up at June with big eyeballs. "I think it's the best for both of us."

New Central State.

It was the city where everything happened. Big companies, big school, people of high society. A place where everyone minded their businesses.

And most importantly, a place without Rauf Salvador.

It really was the best for them, but... "We don't have anyone to stay with there?"

Ellie sighed. "Thank God."

"What?"

"I thought you were going to say no. You have always deny every opportunity to leave this place."

June nodded, her head bowed in shame. That was because she never wanted to be far from Rauf it her family.

But now, she didn't mind be the furthest from them. And New Central State was just far enough.

Before she could say anything, Ellie continued. "You don't need to worry about where to stay over there. My grandmother stays in a remote side at new Central State, and we can crash with her."

June frowned. "Aren't we going to be a disturbance to the old woman?"

Ellie's response was a smile. "The old woman had been begging me to come back. She would be elated to see us."

When Ellie put it in that way, June saw no reason for her to refuse anymore.

Ellie was like a guardian angel sent to her. She was more than a friend to her.

Having no idea what else to say, she scrapped the chair backwards, and walked toward Ellie. Only to fall on her. "Thank you, Ellie. I honestly have no idea what I would have done with myself if it wasn't for you."

Ellie put on a smug look on her face, but rested her hand perfected on her back. "I'm not doing all of this for you. I'm doing it for my beautiful goddaughter that is on the way."

They both looked down at her stomach.

June's eyes filled with unshed tears, but lips curled in a smile. And Ellie's eyes twinkling with smile.

"How did you know it's going to be a goddaughter and not a godson?"

For a moment, Ellie pretended to act as if she was lost in thoughts. "Because she's going to be beautiful, kind, lovely like you are."

Finally, the tears streamed down her eyes and she didn't bother wiping it off.

By the time Ellie left for work, with plans of tending her resignation, so they could leave as soon as possible, June's mind was finally made up.

From now on, she was going to live for her and her child.

  • The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride    A very Important Letter.

The room was silent as June took in the words. New Central State. How was she supposed to find her mother in such a busy state?"So, what do you say? Do you want to or don't you want to?" Her father said in a sing song, as if he were talking to a little child. It was the tone he had always used on her when she younger. And, it might have worked on her then, but she was no longer a little child. Soon, she would become a mother, who needs to protect her child. June swallowed the lump in her throat. "Give me the letter and I will answer whatever you want."She needed to get that letter. They might be clues in it to find her mother. If truly her mother was desperate to find her, then she had to let her know somehow that she was also in the New Central State. But, her father didn't give her the letter immediately. His eyes moved around her like she was some sort of puzzle he couldn't place together. June remained expressionless as she stared at the letter in his hand. After a while,

  • The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride    Where's my Mother?

"You know exactly what I want. Come to the house, I'll be waiting for you."The call dropped before she could say something else. June's fist tightened on the phone. She felt her anger rising, but beneath it was also hope. Hope she had lost completely.Hope for a family that Rauf had temporarily given her, only for him to snatch it away, cruelly. It couldn't truly be. Could be?Her father was a cruel man, and would do or say anything to achieve his goal. Yet, she looked at Ellie who hadn't uttered a word. "Can you please give me a dress? I left all of mine at Rauf's"Ellie blinked. "You're not seriously going back."June inhaled. "Ellie, I need to know. I need to know if my mother is truly alive or not. I can't move on without knowing."Speechless, Ellie stared at her. She had watched June grow without anyone in her corner. Every special day had always been dedicated to Amie. June had mourned her mother every single day of her life, and Ellie wouldn't say she knew exactly how she

  • The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride    Amie's Desperation.

"Sir, there's something you should know."As soon as the guard opened his mouth, the office door slid open. Amie peeped her head him, and seeing the guard looking tense and nervous, she walked inside. She stride to Rauf's side. Thankfully, she had the decency to cover herself up. "Darling, are you working already?" She questioned, her gaze moving among the files on his table. But Rauf only relaxed on his chair. He waved his hand off to dismissed the guard. He just have to question him another day. Amie moved her hand over her body, "It's lonely without you on the bed, darling. Remember, we always sleep together." She pouted at him, trying to act cute. "Don't go changing now that you can see."Rauf chuckled. He wished he could promise her he wouldn't change, but he couldn't make a promise when he was this much in doubt. Instead, he lifted her off his leg and led her out of this office. "I think we should go sleep now. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day."He was resuming back a

  • The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride    Another Revelation

It had been three days. Three days without Rauf in her life and three days trying to find something to do with her life. Ellie had resigned form her workplace and they had both sat down to search for jobs in New Central State before relocating there. It was better knowing they would have something to fall back on, than going empty handed. After searching tiredlessly, June found an assistant job in a vet clinic with good pay. At least, it would be enough for her to register for her prenatal and started getting new things for herself. Ellie also got a job at a restaurant, but she planned on working part-time as she was going to be schooling while working."Is that the last thing you need to place in the bag?" June asked. She had watched Ellie packed her bag, and because most of her belongings were still at Salvador's mansion, she had absolutely nothing to pack.It was horrible, but she had promised not to cry again. They were some things that were personal to her, that she wouldn'

When he didn't respond, and kept staring at her, Amie felt her palm becoming sweaty. Did he find out something already? She gave him the gift and covered up the room color. Everything should be fine. Amie blinked, moving closer to him. She placed her hand right into his. "Come on, darling. What's happening? Why do you look like that?"Rauf schooled his features immediately. If this was an act he needed to find out. He shouldn't give them a clue that he suspected anything. He forced a smile at her. "Sorry, Mami. It's the aftermath of the surgery."Amie smiled at him. "Come on. I'll make you feel good, but first, come and eat."She pulled him away from the grey room towards the dining. The silence in the room was deafening as the maid came to drop the food on the table. There was no whispers from the maid like it used to whenever he heard them drop his food. He waited and watched as Amie commanded them to put their food on their plate. Another thing he had been looking forward to

  • The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride    Something is different.

After spending three more days in the hospital, Rauf was finally discharged. The hospital bed had been boring to him than he expected, and Amie had forbidden him from bringing work to his sick bed. Finally, he was going home and couldn't wait to see what his home now looked like after five years. But, he had a feeling he was going to love it. Though he was blind, he had done a lot of things in that home with his wife. Things he finally wanted to see face to face. "Darling, I hired a new interior decorator to change the look of your room. You'll love it." Amie said as she led him towards the room. Instead of a smile, a frown occupied Rauf's face. What did she mean by his room?It should be their room. She had promised to move fully in after his surgery was successful. But he kept quiet. For the past three days at the hospital, Rauf had resulted in eating the hospital's meal. No matter how Aime had prepared the food, it just didn't taste the same way it did when he was blind. It
