I stared at Christopher as my chest tightened with my mind running in circles. He had just told Sean to let me leave. Was he serious? Or is he joking? Was he really going to let me walk out?

My feet felt heavy, like they were nailed to the floor. I don’t trust him. I don’t trust any of this.

Sean waited at the door, looking at me with a blank face. Christopher leaned back in his chair with his eyes on me like a hawk, as if daring me to move.

“You wanted to go,” he said calmly. “Then go.”

I swallowed hard as I tried to steady my shaking hands. This was what I wanted, wasn’t it? To leave this place. To run.

But his words from earlier echoed in my head... “Step outside, and they will track you down before you make it ten minutes. You will be dead before the hour ends.”

I didn’t know if he was trying to scare me or if he was telling the truth.

Still, my pride made me lift my chin. “Fine,” I said in a small voice.

Sean opened the door wider. “This way, miss.”

I walked quickly, brushing past him. My legs felt weak, but I forced them to keep moving. The hall seemed endless, every step echoing in the silence. I could feel Christopher’s eyes burning into my back even though I wasn’t looking at him anymore.

Sean walked behind me with his footsteps calm and even. I wanted to ask him questions, but his stiff face told me not to bother. He wasn’t going to answer.

We reached the main floor, and he led me to the front entrance. My breath quickened as the huge doors opened.

It was Cold, Quiet, Empty outside here.

“Good luck,” Sean said flatly. His tone made it sound more like a warning than kindness.

I stepped outside as I clutch my shoes in my hand. My heart hammered as the doors shut behind me with a loud thud.

The gate wasn’t far. I could see the guards still there, standing tall and watchful. For a second, I thought about running back inside, but I shook my head. No. I couldn’t stay in a mafia boss’s house.

I walked quickly, almost jogging toward the gate. The guards glanced at me but didn’t stop me. One of them pressed a button and the gate opened slowly.

The street outside was dark. Too dark.

I hugged myself as I stepped out. The moment the gate closed behind me, the silence felt heavier. My eyes darted around the street. Empty. No footsteps. No voices.

But my stomach twisted with unease.

I walked faster with my bare feet cold against the ground. Every shadow looked alive. Every corner felt like danger.

Maybe Christopher was lying. Maybe I will be fine. They would have gone by now. There is no way they will still be waiting for me.

Then I heard it.

A low whistle.

I froze.

The sound came from behind me. My blood ran cold.

Slowly, I turned my head.

Down the street, three dark figures stepped out of the shadows. Their eyes glinted in the faint light, and I recognized the faces instantly. The same men from the alley.

The Cruz Mafia.

“No…” I whispered, my throat dry.

One of them smirked. “Look who we found. The brave little girl who tried to play hero.”

My knees weakened.

I took a step back, then another. My mind screamed at me to run, but my body wouldn’t listen.

Another man pulled out a knife. the blade was flashing in the streetlight.

“You made a mistake, sweetheart,” he said coldly. “Nobody humiliates the Cruz Mafia and lives.”

Tears filled my eyes as my back hit a wall. There was nowhere left to go.

I thought about Anna. I thought about how she tried to convince me not to go to the club.

This is it.

This is my end.

I'm sorry Anna.

I'm sorry.

Christopher Romano Point of viewThe girl sat across from me at the long dining table. Her head was down. She picked at the food like she was afraid to eat it.I watched her in silence. Every small move she made. The way her hands shook when she lifted the fork. The way her eyes never met mine. She was afraid. Good. Fear kept people alive."Eat," I said firmly. She jumped at my voice and nodded quickly. She took a small bite, then another. Her throat moved as she swallowed hard.I leaned back in my chair, my glass in my hand. The wine burned down my throat, but I barely tasted it. My mind was elsewhere.I thought about the Cruz Mafia. About the way they had dared to touch what was mine. About how close she had been to bleeding out on the street. My jaw clenched.Rosalina put the fork down and whispered, "I'm not hungry..."I set the glass down hard enough to make her flinch. "You will eat," I said coldly. "If you want to stay alive under my roof, you will follow my rules. Do you under

CHRISTOPHER ROMANO Point of viewThe car rolled through the gates and up the long driveway. I sat in silence with my eyes on the girl beside me. She pressed herself against the window as if distance would save her.Rosalina.She thought she could walk out. She thought she had a choice. My jaw tightened. Foolish. Reckless. She had no idea what kind of danger she had thrown herself into. The Cruz gang would have cut her open if I hadn't arrived. They would have left her body in the street like trash.I warned her. I told her she wouldn't last ten minutes outside these walls. She lasted less than five. The car stopped in front of the mansion. The driver got out quickly, opening my door first. My back pressed against the cold wall as the three men came closer. My chest rose and fell so fast I could hardly breathe. This was it.This was how my life would end.I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, whispering in my mind. I’m sorry, Anna. I should have listened to you. I should never have dragged us to that club. Please, forgive me.“Don’t cry now, little hero,” one of the men sneered. His voice was rough, like gravel. He held the knife up, letting the light glint off the blade. “You wanted to play brave? Then be brave.”The others laughed. Their laughter echoed in the dark, cruel and mocking. My knees trembled. My hands shook as I pressed them to the wall behind me, wishing it would just open up and swallow me whole.Run. My mind screamed at me. Run!But my body was frozen. My legs wouldn’t move. My heart pounded so loud I thought it might burst.“Don’t kill her too fast,” the tallest one said. “Boss might want to see her first. She made quite a scene earlier .”The one with t

Chapter 3 When I was done, he leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers lightly on the desk. “And your family?” he finally asked.“I have no family members. “ I informed.“No one?”I shook my head slowly. "I had an accident in the year 2016 and I had a memory loss. No one came to the hospital to see me. It was in the hospital I met Anna, my best friend. Her family paid my hospital bills. I stayed with them for three years before I moved out from their place. ”“what is the name of the hospital?” he asked, his voice was calm but serious. My brows furrowed. “Why do you need to know that?”“Just answer,” he said firmly, leaving no room for argument.I swallowed and told him the name. He nodded slightly, as if making a mental note.“How old are you?” he asked next.“ Ughm.... I'm not sure, but I think, twenty-one.” The words slipped out before I could stop myself, and then, out of habit, I quickly added, “And you?”My eyes widened in shock at my own question. Heat rushed to my fac
