  "Your engagement is in a week "my father said unexpectedly as soon as he entered the room. 

  "What" my mother and I exclaimed at the same time,"what do you mean her engagement is in a week,with who?" my mother asked my father. 

  "she will also be getting married two weeks from now so I expect you to start preparing for the ceremony "he said to us definitely. 

  " And ,she will be getting married into the Luciano family,so I expect you to start preparing from now"

  My eyes widened in horror. 

  "The Luciano family?" I asked .

  "Yes, do you have a problem with my arrangement?" he asked me intentionally knowing there is nothing I can say.

  The Luciano family is known for their brutality in their businesses and how badly they treat women married into their family,and how they kill drop people like feathers off a chicken. 

  A particular rumour about Vincent Luciano,the leader of the cosa Nostra about how he raped and killed his own mother. I mean that can't be true right? but this is the mafia,and nothing is impossible for them,but how can one kill his own mother. 

  Even if it is not entirely true part of it must be right,maybe that he killed his mother or raped her, which ever it is only shows the monstrosity that runs in their family and i never want to be subjected to that.

  Seeing as my father business has been failing I can only pray that me marries me into the minor family of the Luciano family.

  My father is one of the five most powerful mafia in New York. He is more powerful than most of the family in the Cosa Nostra but the weakest amongst the five leading family and that is because he doesn't not have a heir.My father's family business filled with non relatives is already a bad deal for the business and he is an only child who has two daughters,he has no male child who can take after him when he dies or retires which makes our family the weakest out of the five,so he can only marry me off to another family to ensure his own legacy. 

  A lot of people covet my father's wealth and position and they see his lack of heir as an opportunity to take over his position, they just need to get married to his first daughter, which is me and they can take over his position as one of the most powerful family in the Cosa Nostra, most of the other family has come to to ask for alliance through marriage from my father but he has declined all of them saying they're not worthy enough of his daughter, but what he really means is that they are not worthy enough to take over him. My father is a proud man but definitely not loving enough to care about who deserves me or not. 

  "You can marry her into any other family but not the Luciano family, please you know the rumors about them, you even know that they are true and you want your daughter to marry into that Family."

  My mother argued, snapping me out of my thought. This is the first time I have seen my mother raise her voice at my father. 

  "You think you have the right to criticize me if you had just given me a heir we could have prevented all of this but you had to be fucking useless and give me two useless daughter"

  My father snapped at my mother. 

  My mum burst into tears and said "You finally said what you have already wanted after all of this,but I hope you know I'm not the reason we have only daughters right?" She looked at him with complete disdain.

  " What do you mean by that" he asked her.

  He was furious.

  'what do you mean by saying that I'm the rea..'

  "I will marry him" I said , interrupting him abruptly.

  My mother rushed to my side , saying

  "no one will force you to marry you into that family as long as I still live".

  "No mother,it's fine,even if I don't marry into the Luciano family, I will still marry into another I will not choose,it is still the same mom,it's not like I will ever marry someone I love anyways". I said facing her.

  I know my parents never loved each other but they have always respected and treated each other right. I do not want them to end up fighting because of me. I do not trust my father would not touch her to prove his point, it would not be the first time we have heard of situations like that in other family. 

  "And besides mother, it will really help the family is people can see we are joined to the Luciano family, that would help Penelope for her own marriage, she could even choose who she wants to marry" I said smiling bitterly at her. 

  "What about you?' she said.

  "Mother look at me, I will be twenty two tomorrow, I will be married sooner,rather that later, and even if I do not marry into the Luciano family, we both know that I do not have a say in respect to who I will later get married to, so let me do it to enhance the family's future" I told her.

  "Yes,you see,your daughter thinks better than you do " my father said before my mother could respond to me. 

  "So," I said bracing myself. 

  "who am I getting married to in the Luciano family"

  "¹Lucas"

  "Vin Vincent's son"my mum asked with trembling voice 

  "and he expects to see you tomorrow "he said and started walking away. 

  "and if you really do want to help your sister,make sure you bear him a child during the first year of your marriage,that is the only thing you are useful for anyway"he then left leaving myself and my mother frozen.
