Serena's Pov

Wow, in my years of experience I've never seen my enemies wanting to make a deal with me, not even him. I wonder what brought him to this conclusion.

I took a step closer, my hands crossed above my chest and a wry smile tugged across my lips. “ And why do you think I'd agree to this deal of yours?” I asked, my voice low.

“ Because, I know you will.” He said, “ you will never let go of a gold bar. That I know for sure.” He said, his voice cold, he smirked.

“ Mateo, what do you want?” I asked.

As far as I know this guy, I know he doesn't make unreasonable moves. Although, I call this one move crazy.

As I was about to sit down, a loud bang rattled the door. My head snapped towards the door, and before I could speak, the voice came through.

“ You have 45 minutes girl!” That familiar masculine voice came through.

I hissed, turning my head back toward Mateo. I gave a curt nod signalling him to continue.

“ I will get you out of here soon,” he said. “ I want you to let go of my case, and destroy all evidence you have against meー” before he could finish, I cut him short.

“ In return?” I asked,

“ I will take your kids in, and take care of them. I will keep your being here hidden.” He said, his voice low.

He raised his head to look at the CCTV camera installed in the room. And instinctively, I did the same. But, I had a different motiveーI waved at the camera, a smile tugged across my lips.

At that moment, I went quiet. My mind racing with many thoughts and questionsーwhat would happen if I let them stay with him? Will they survive? Was it worth it? My kids' safety, his crime.

It clicked, he was the only one that remembered my children's safety. He remembered they would survive, but can I trust him?

“ Um…” I hummed, my fingers fidgeting. I raised my eyes to look at him and then I lowered my gaze back. “ Why should I trust you?” I asked, instinctively.

“ Your children's life is on the line,” he said. “ Their survival.” He whispered.

I raised my head to look at the transparent glass right at the top, which was mounted on the wall, by the side of the room. And that was when I realized that we were being watched and spied on.

“ Can they hear anything?” I asked,

“ No, I have my men working on that, the whole station's system is hacked, and another voice and a whole different conversation is being heard.” He explained.

“ Sharp,” I smiled. “ I will let go of the whole case then. But, know that you are being watched. I am locked up doesn't mean I can't see through that big mansion of yours.” I said,

He kept quiet for a moment, the smile on his face slowly disappeared, his lips curved, he lowered his head before raising his head to look at me once again.

“ You’re crazy,” he said. “ B**tch!”

“ D**k head.” I smiled, “ we have a deal. But, I’m on your heels.” I said, my voice low

Almost immediately, I jumped to my feet, raising my head to look at the transparent glass once again. The man there kept staring at me. I winked, a wry smile tugged across my lips.

Immediately, I walked out of the dark room. Heading back to my own ennui, my boredom. The four walls that will remain my home till I get out of this place to ruin the killer of my husband, Theodore.

As soon as I entered the cell room, the cold walls were like a sharp sting on my skin. The cold atmosphere sent chills down my spine.

I let out a deep sigh, sweat began coating across my face. Images of Luna's and Daniel's faces flashed across my eyes, I began imagining how they kept disturbing me days ago.

If I knew they would not be with me the other day, I wouldn't have stopped them from yelling. I wouldn't have stopped them from playing around.

Rose's calm demeanor, her soft smile. Her strong instincts, how I wished I listened when she first notified me the moment Theodore stepped out of the house.

The way she had warned me that it felt like her father might not come back. Not a warning, but I guess it was a warning after all.

Will I ever survive? Will I see my kids again? Will they ever be as happy as they were with me when they realise that Mateo will be their new companion?

Tears welled up in my eyes, I raised my head staring at the small hole that assisted the sun light. And finally, the tears rolled down.

Ever in 8years had I ever imagined my life would be like that of my client's.

Mateo’s Pov“ Mathew, get in the car.” I said, my voice low. And immediately, I also got into the car waiting for Mathew to make a move. As soon as he got into the car, there was a whole new level of panic across his face. And as soon as I noticed that, I knew one thing was for sure, he might be affected by the substance in the air. “ Hey, what happened?” I asked, my voice low. He turned his head to look at me. “ The substance in the air gave me an allergic reaction.” He said,“ What?” I asked, dumbfounded. Could that thing be made out of food ingredients? Or is it something else? I stared at him. “ Use the spray. “ I said, Immediately, his fingers tumbled across the bottles of spray right in front of him. Ever since he became my driver, I have kept all his medication right there in front of him. I knew all about him, and it was my responsibility to protect him from any harm. Although Mathew might be my assistant, he was more than that in the normal system. He was like a family.

Mateo's Pov As soon as the words left her mouth, she seem to understand the weight of what she'd just said, because I had forgotten how to breathe for a moment. Not only that, it was as if my lungs were not responding to air at all. “ I don't understand,” I said. For all my life, this is the first time my voice would ever tremble. Oh Lucifer, why am I in this dilemma? For the first time ever, my voice had trembled really hard, all for the sake of not wanting to lose my freedom. “ Boss, she means the kids are not responding to treatment.” Mathew said beside me. I swallowed hard, the long loss of breath made me gasp for air the next minute. Although it didn't appear in my face, it was really evident in my pocket . My hands were in my pocket, slightly trembling. I couldn't break the strong facade nor could I let this goddamn nurse do their work lazily. “ Try harder,” I said, my voice cold, letting out a cold sigh. “I want them discharged from here in the next two days.”

Serena's Pov. I jumped to my feet as soon as the guy came to my cell gate, he had a wry smile across his face. And for one moment, I thought he wanted to do something wrong to me, so I just pinned my gaze on him as he hinged forward. A wide smirk tugged across my lips as I prepared to attack him. He might have thought I was a weak faggot. I didn't say anything, I just watched his steps carefully. He paused, grabbing his belt, he let out a deep sigh. “ Time for lunch,” he said. I hissed, the smile disappeared immediately. I had thought of making him a scapegoat. And everyone in this cell would know I wasn't joking here. “ Okay,” I said, rising to my feet. I dusted my clothes. Afterward I made my way out of the cell walls. With each step I took, the cold damp smell filled my nose, and the crazy odor from the guy right In front of me. I looked past him as I slowly made my way into the dining area. Ever since the day I stepped into these walls, each and every one of them kept stari

Mateo's PovI landed on the floor with a thud. A loud oomph escaped my mouth, mysteriously the girl in my hand didn't shout, she was calm. Too calm. The smoke engulfed us till the extent we could not see anything at all. I raised my head to look at the twins and to my utmost shock they were both lying there, unconscious. I am just so dead. I quickly retrieved my phone from my pocket, dialing Mathew's number. And as soon as he picked the call, I yelled. “ Get the ambulance and run down to the attorney's villa immediately!” My voice, loud. I shielded Rose with my body. A low groan escaped my lips. Why did I even volunteer to take her children in? Now I am in a tight spot? I almost lost my life because of an insane decision. I could just stare helplessly as the flames engulfed the building, I watched sadly. But there was something I didn't understand, who is the other person targeting her? Who wanted her dead? My mind raced with multiple questions. Questions I didn't even have an an

Mateo's Pov “ Drop your gun,” I snapped, my voice cold. As I waited for the kids to get upstairs. My breath hitched, as I stared at her. Why was she holding a gun? Were they planning to kill Serena's children? I didn't break eye contact with her, nor did I shoot, I wasn't gonna do any. K didn't want to kill anyone in this house, not when she has principles. “ You drop it,” she said. Trying to be calm as her hands were visibly shaking. I could sense it from her stance. She looked extremely stressed. I stared at her fingers, checking if she even knew how to pull the trigger, but she didn't. So I just smiled it off. I retracted my gun into my back pocket. “ Leave this house now,” I said. “ I wouldn't say it again. Unless you want to surrender your life to Lucifer.” I said, These were my signature words. I don't say that unless I actually don't feel like killing the person. And I didn't actually feel like killing her. She might be a great source later on. She lowered her gun, I
