SONIA’S POV

The sounds I hear once we’re parked in the garage are somewhat distant and yet loud. Where are they coming from?

“Come, Sonia. We don’t want to keep our guest waiting now, do we?”

“Our guest? What do you mean?” I ask, bewildered. The train of my gown was taken off hours earlier so I’m able to exit the car without help. Anthony holds the elevator door open for me and let’s go once I’m in, hitting the button to the 47th floor. I seize the opportunity to probe once more. “Anthony what’s going on?”

“It’s a tradition here to deflower your bride on the night of the wedding within earshot of everyone who cares to listen. After the sex, the sheet is taken for inspection.” He’s leaning on the railing, explaining like we’re talking about something totally normal.

I can feel the blood drain out of my face and I all of a sudden feel like I might faint. “What?” I mutter, shock written all over me. “Please tell me you’re joking?”

“No, Sonia.” He cocks his head to the side. “I’m not.”

There’s a trace of a smile on his face but I figure it’s not because he’s joking with me, no. That’s what the noise I overheard outside was. They were cheering’s. Really loud ones. I begin to wonder how many people are present at the penthouse.

“What will they be inspecting the sheet for?” I swallow.

“Your blood, of course,” He replies, looking the least unbothered. Before I can ask what we’re going to do, the elevator dings that we’ve arrived and begins to open to my horror.

Anthony stands to his full height. “Smile.” He says to with me with humor in his voice. My misfortune must amuse him a lot.

I manage to paste a smile on my face and we walk out of the elevator and into the foyer where more than half of Anthony’s guest – because they are definitely not mine – are hanging around, clapping and cheering at us as we pass.

“Tony, you lucky bastard. You went and got you a beautiful woman.” One actually howls out in a British accent.

“Take all the time you need. We are not going anywhere.” Another one yells and people laugh with him. I can only hope he was joking about the last part.

To my greatest horror, as we walk down the hall leading to the bedroom, voices follow us from behind. I look to Anthony but he doesn’t look bothered still. He only grins from amusement. I’m about to ask if they will be with us in the bedroom but my unvoiced question is answered when Anthony opens the door and shuts it behind us.

I go to lean against the wall, putting a distance from him as my breath picks up. I’m suddenly nervous.

“What now?” I whisper.

In reply, my eyes widen as he begins to undo his tie. Next, he takes off his jacket and places it on the bed. Turning to me, he voices a command that instantly makes butterflies dance in my tummy.

“Come here.”

“I – I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I mutter, shaking my head and looking away.

Anthony laughs that deep sounding laugh of his and I’m forced to look back at him where he’s standing. Only that this time, he isn’t standing by the bed anymore. He takes long strides to me and is in front of me just after three steps. My back sinks back into the wall in an effort to put more distance within us. With how close he’s standing, I fear he might discover how much his presence affects me. Or my body. Yes, it’s definitely my body.

“What are you hiding, Sonia?” He speaks into my ear and turns my face up to look at him. “It’s not like you’re a virgin anymore.”

His word is like a slap to my face and I flush red from anger and embarrassment. But there’s nothing I can do. He did promise to keep my secret and most importantly, I need his protection. “Since you know that, then what am I doing here in this room with you?” I hiss while still maintaining a hushed tone.

“Because I don’t want you to die,” He says, ignoring my temper. His admission throws me of balance for a second but then he goes and ruins everything with his next words. “You’re still of great use to me. I can’t have you dying on me.”

“Why did you marry me?”

“Again, it’s none of your business. But you will know in due time. Now moan for me.”

“No,” I breathe, stubbornly. “You’ll have to earn it.”

“Are you enjoying our time together, darling?” He coos at me.

“I won’t sleep with you.”

“I didn’t ask you too.” With that, he flips me over, turning me around so that my face is against the wall. He palms my abdomen, pushing my behind against him. I gasp when I feel the hard length of his crotch pushing behind me and not being able to help it, a long suppressed moan escapes me.

Instantly, we both hear a roar of laughter behind the bedroom door and more cheering. I gasp in shock that they were actually there the whole time, listening in on us. Anthony only chuckles as he unbuttons the sleeve of his pristine white shirt and walks back to the bed.

He unveils a pocket knife from his back pocket which makes me take a step back out of fear. But he’s not looking nor pointing the knife at me. Instead he stretches his left hand forward and slices his palm. Horrified once more, I watch as a pool of his blood pours onto the white sheet, darkening the material.

Immediately, I realize what he’s doing. He’s doing this so that when they come to inspect the sheet, they will think that the blood is from me.

I stand rooted in my spot, staring as he walks into the bathroom and comes out a minute later with a little bandage covering his wound.

“Do have a lovely night.” He tips his head just like he did on the first day we met, grabs his jacket and leaves with it. The cheering resumes again once he’s outside but luckily, they leave with Anthony.

I’m still standing in the same spot when the door opens a minute later and Chiara walks in. She blushes a deep crimson red when she sees me probably looking like I’d actually just had sex with some parts of my hair being out of place. She turns to the bed and pulls the sheet out, gently folding it after.

“I’ll be back soon to help you out of your dress, ma’am.” She smiles and leaves.

I don’t move after Chiara leaves. My thoughts are all over the place and I just wish there was someone I could talk to but even if there was someone, I did sign an NDA as well so that isn’t an option at all. But after what happened here tonight, I know one thing for sure. Mr. Anthony Romano, can and will do anything to get what he wants. The question is, what does he want?

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 070: OFFICE STEAM

SONIA’S POVLucia did say to give her brother some time. But I figure three days is more than enough, and now’s the time to make my move. Josh drives me to my favorite café to get some treats, because who goes to visit someone else empty-handed? Twenty minutes later, I walk out of the building holding a cup of Matcha tea and a box of donuts for him. Everybody loves donuts, so why not?Having been to his workplace that one time with Taylor, plus with Josh’s help—seeing as he’d been Anthony’s driver and would therefore know his way around, we arrive at the building in swift time. The journey to his office is even swifter, seeing as his secretary Janet doesn’t intend pissing off her boss like the last time she’d tried holding me back. I didn’t blame her, though, and I still don’t. She had only been doing her job. Lord knows I also wouldn’t have let some random, red-headed, spectacularly good looking (If I do say so myself) chick, who hadn’t even booked an appointment, come strutting in,

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 069: GIFT

SONIA’S POVIf Anthony got back last night, I certainly wasn’t aware. Not until I woke up this morning and saw the text he’d sent at around 9 p.m. saying he wouldn’t be back for the night and that I also shouldn’t stay up waiting for him. That had to be the last straw for me, and I wasn’t exactly sure why. But in my defense, in the three days Sam had been here, he didn’t stay out late. Not once. Not even on the night he’d told me that Taylor had woken up.But I do know one thing: I’m at fault for the change in his behavior. There’s no saying otherwise. He’d told me two weeks ago about his cousin, Dexter’s, wedding, which was now coming up in two weeks, and how we’d been invited as family to the groom. He obviously said we weren’t going, I mean, no surprises there. The two men would practically finish up what they’d started on the day of Taylor’s tragic accident. But then grandpa called me and asked me to convince Anthony to please show up at least, it didn’t matter if it would even be

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 068: LEAVING

SONIA’S POVTurns out that when you’ve got both good company and things that keep you preoccupied, the days tend to go by much more quickly, making you forget that your husband still hasn’t said more than three sentences that weren’t “How’s Hailey?” “Anything she wants is at her disposal. Let your friend know that, okay?” And “See you when I get back.”Either way, I’m great, thank you for asking. It’s been three days since the chain of events that brought Sam to my doorstep. Sam, on the other hand, has been healing quite nicely. Her back doesn’t hurt anymore, her ribs are still a bit sore, but thankfully, the doctor did assure us that nothing had been broken, so she’ll live. Her face is also beginning to look like it used to. Except for the little scar on her lips and the stitching on her neck, every other thing seems to be good.Unfortunately, Sam leaves today. She’d insisted that she was fine to go back to her place now, but when I’d told Anthony, on the occasion he hadn’t been a d

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 067: ONE WORD

SONIA’S POV“Water, ma’am?” Both I and Sam’s attention flickers to the sound of the voice below us. Hailey. Little Hailey, as I so fondly call her, stands in front of Sam’s stool, holding out a glass of water in her small hands.“Thank you, darling.” Sam bends as carefully as she can, wincing a little due to the pain in her back, as she takes the glass from Hailey’s grip and takes a sip out of it before placing it on the kitchen counter. This little display of Hailey’s has been a constant since she walked into my room in the middle of the night after Sam had woken up and I’d helped her out of her clothes and cleaned her up properly.Hailey had stood at the foot of the bed, mouth slightly agape. She stared at Sam’s almost naked body seated on the bed, as Sam was in the process of examining her bruised face with a mirror. We had both stared at the little girl, not sure of what to do or say if she asked about Sam’s state. About a minute later, she picked her jaw off the floor, climbed

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 066: UNEXPECTED GUEST

SONIA’S POVSam’s presence here comes as a surprise to me. During the few times she drove me back home before Anthony got me a car, her trips here only ever ended down at the garage, and then she would do a reverse and be out on her way again, refusing to come up with me no matter how much I tried to change her mind.I always thought she didn’t trust me enough to take our friendship to that stage. Which I honestly found weird at times, since I wasn’t a man interested in pursuing something romantic with her. I thought it was either that or she didn’t want to intrude on my privacy, or she didn’t want me to see her as a bother, even though I’d always been the one inviting her in. Insisting on having her. But looking at her now, her eyes being hidden behind those big, familiar, shaded frames of hers – the same ones she’d sometimes worn during office hours, I’m now beginning to piece a whole lot of things together.Sam hasn’t been avoiding my place all these months since we’d met because

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 065: LACK OF RATIONAL THINKING

SONIA’S POVEven after a week has gone by, the image of Anthony switching things up on Elena always finds a way to creep into my thoughts. It’s been hunting me, but in a good way. Whenever he’s on a work call, barking commands to the poor soul on the other end of the phone, it just takes me back to the things he’d told Elena and the domineering way in which he’d said them.I feel hot again just thinking about it.Apart from the time where we had sex in his room that morning when I’d thought he would be swimming with regrets after the line we crossed, we’ve been at it a few other times, mostly in his bedroom since Hailey’s bedroom is right next to mine, and we wouldn’t like to risk anything with her.Hailey, on the other hand, has been a gem. She has been the sweetest little thing, speaking nonstop about any and everything the instant she got back from school at noon. Her favorite place to be has been the nursery. She squealed with excitement the first time she saw it, and ever since
