SONIA’S POV

The sounds I hear once we’re parked in the garage are somewhat distant and yet loud. Where are they coming from?

“Come, Sonia. We don’t want to keep our guest waiting now, do we?”

“Our guest? What do you mean?” I ask, bewildered. The train of my gown was taken off hours earlier so I’m able to exit the car without help. Anthony holds the elevator door open for me and let’s go once I’m in, hitting the button to the 47th floor. I seize the opportunity to probe once more. “Anthony what’s going on?”

“It’s a tradition here to deflower your bride on the night of the wedding within earshot of everyone who cares to listen. After the sex, the sheet is taken for inspection.” He’s leaning on the railing, explaining like we’re talking about something totally normal.

I can feel the blood drain out of my face and I all of a sudden feel like I might faint. “What?” I mutter, shock written all over me. “Please tell me you’re joking?”

“No, Sonia.” He cocks his head to the side. “I’m not.”

There’s a trace of a smile on his face but I figure it’s not because he’s joking with me, no. That’s what the noise I overheard outside was. They were cheering’s. Really loud ones. I begin to wonder how many people are present at the penthouse.

“What will they be inspecting the sheet for?” I swallow.

“Your blood, of course,” He replies, looking the least unbothered. Before I can ask what we’re going to do, the elevator dings that we’ve arrived and begins to open to my horror.

Anthony stands to his full height. “Smile.” He says to with me with humor in his voice. My misfortune must amuse him a lot.

I manage to paste a smile on my face and we walk out of the elevator and into the foyer where more than half of Anthony’s guest – because they are definitely not mine – are hanging around, clapping and cheering at us as we pass.

“Tony, you lucky bastard. You went and got you a beautiful woman.” One actually howls out in a British accent.

“Take all the time you need. We are not going anywhere.” Another one yells and people laugh with him. I can only hope he was joking about the last part.

To my greatest horror, as we walk down the hall leading to the bedroom, voices follow us from behind. I look to Anthony but he doesn’t look bothered still. He only grins from amusement. I’m about to ask if they will be with us in the bedroom but my unvoiced question is answered when Anthony opens the door and shuts it behind us.

I go to lean against the wall, putting a distance from him as my breath picks up. I’m suddenly nervous.

“What now?” I whisper.

In reply, my eyes widen as he begins to undo his tie. Next, he takes off his jacket and places it on the bed. Turning to me, he voices a command that instantly makes butterflies dance in my tummy.

“Come here.”

“I – I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I mutter, shaking my head and looking away.

Anthony laughs that deep sounding laugh of his and I’m forced to look back at him where he’s standing. Only that this time, he isn’t standing by the bed anymore. He takes long strides to me and is in front of me just after three steps. My back sinks back into the wall in an effort to put more distance within us. With how close he’s standing, I fear he might discover how much his presence affects me. Or my body. Yes, it’s definitely my body.

“What are you hiding, Sonia?” He speaks into my ear and turns my face up to look at him. “It’s not like you’re a virgin anymore.”

His word is like a slap to my face and I flush red from anger and embarrassment. But there’s nothing I can do. He did promise to keep my secret and most importantly, I need his protection. “Since you know that, then what am I doing here in this room with you?” I hiss while still maintaining a hushed tone.

“Because I don’t want you to die,” He says, ignoring my temper. His admission throws me of balance for a second but then he goes and ruins everything with his next words. “You’re still of great use to me. I can’t have you dying on me.”

“Why did you marry me?”

“Again, it’s none of your business. But you will know in due time. Now moan for me.”

“No,” I breathe, stubbornly. “You’ll have to earn it.”

“Are you enjoying our time together, darling?” He coos at me.

“I won’t sleep with you.”

“I didn’t ask you too.” With that, he flips me over, turning me around so that my face is against the wall. He palms my abdomen, pushing my behind against him. I gasp when I feel the hard length of his crotch pushing behind me and not being able to help it, a long suppressed moan escapes me.

Instantly, we both hear a roar of laughter behind the bedroom door and more cheering. I gasp in shock that they were actually there the whole time, listening in on us. Anthony only chuckles as he unbuttons the sleeve of his pristine white shirt and walks back to the bed.

He unveils a pocket knife from his back pocket which makes me take a step back out of fear. But he’s not looking nor pointing the knife at me. Instead he stretches his left hand forward and slices his palm. Horrified once more, I watch as a pool of his blood pours onto the white sheet, darkening the material.

Immediately, I realize what he’s doing. He’s doing this so that when they come to inspect the sheet, they will think that the blood is from me.

I stand rooted in my spot, staring as he walks into the bathroom and comes out a minute later with a little bandage covering his wound.

“Do have a lovely night.” He tips his head just like he did on the first day we met, grabs his jacket and leaves with it. The cheering resumes again once he’s outside but luckily, they leave with Anthony.

I’m still standing in the same spot when the door opens a minute later and Chiara walks in. She blushes a deep crimson red when she sees me probably looking like I’d actually just had sex with some parts of my hair being out of place. She turns to the bed and pulls the sheet out, gently folding it after.

“I’ll be back soon to help you out of your dress, ma’am.” She smiles and leaves.

I don’t move after Chiara leaves. My thoughts are all over the place and I just wish there was someone I could talk to but even if there was someone, I did sign an NDA as well so that isn’t an option at all. But after what happened here tonight, I know one thing for sure. Mr. Anthony Romano, can and will do anything to get what he wants. The question is, what does he want?

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 078: BLONDE HAIRED CHICK

SONIA’S POV I just sort of figure that if I continue avoiding Jessica’s texts, she’ll eventually think she got the wrong number and then quit texting. So that’s exactly what I’ve decided to do today. As I get ready to leave the house for my first Pilates session with the new coach grandpa assigned to me, I’m actually pretty excited for today. I get to do something different than I have in a long time. It’s a good day, really.Anthony, on the other hand, feels a whole different way. The man believes I shouldn’t be alone with a stranger I know absolutely nothing about. But he’s just being annoying. There’s no way in hell I’m missing this appointment. I’ve been looking forward to it ever since his grandpa called about the arrangement.“Or I could get you a mat so you’ll do it in the corner of the room.” He continues listing ways to get me to change my mind.“You want him to come over?”“Like hell, I’d allow that. If you need a coach, you have me.” He makes way for me to come down the st

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 077: STUMP

SONIA’S POVAnthony has just four fingers on that hand. The one that has never seen the light of day as far as I’m concerned.I’m rooted in shock as I stare at him and then at his hand.Did the glove slip out of his hand at night? Because as far as I know, the man wouldn’t intentionally expose himself like this unless something happened.Because I know that this might be the one time I get to look at him. Truly look him over, I take my time in examining the hand on his stomach while also trying to be as quiet and unmoving as can be.The missing finger doesn’t look like it was crushed. Neither does it look like something that had been accidentally lost. The precision in which it was cut tells me it’d been done consciously. Deliberately.A phone—mine or Anthony’s—vibrates somewhere around the room but I’m too entranced to find out which. Not when I can barely breathe. And it’s not out of fear. It’s never that with him, not anymore. It’s because I feel like I’ve stumbled into a part of h

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 076: DANGEROUS LOVE

ANTHONY’S POVI know the only way to truly begin letting go of the past and giving Sonia what she wants is by acknowledging certain areas of my life.Areas I always found too uncomfortable to deal with, but I knew were better than the parts I’d rather not deal with at all. At least the more approachable parts were better enough to really peel back compared to the rest.I drag my eyes over my hands on the steering wheel. Perhaps I should begin with the black piece of cloth I never take off, except when I'm in my room.No one ever saw what was beneath, and when I’d begun putting it on years ago, no one questioned why I did it.Looking back, I know it was because I’d made that stupid choice during the winter. Everyone wore gloves then, so I knew it was the best excuse to hide the outcome of the aftermath of my stupidity. When winter was over, that was when the stares truly came. I walked around with one hand covered while the other went bare. Grandpa had to ask me if that was what was tr

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 075: NEW LEAF?

ANTHONY 'S POVIt’s quarter past midnight by the time I drive out of the garage, heading to the one place I’m certain to find Dexter at this time of the night, since the man has some sort of allergy to his house. As soon as I’d heard that soft, pretty snoring of Sonia’s, I had left the bed as quietly as I could, dressed back in my slacks and white shirt, and left the house, but not before clearing the dining table of our dinner plates.I’d taken into consideration what Sonia said about grandpa wanting me to take it easy on my cousin, which is why I’ve decided to talk to him. That option hasn’t always been my go-to, but it does have its uses.Either way, I’ve brought my pistol with me for extra measure. You never can tell what’s going to happen, and maybe, just maybe, I might be lucky to see that my cousin will be spoiling for a tiny bit of violence. If he does, I’ll be more grateful to engage. The lights in the building where Grandpa’s men’s club is situated are still on, which isn’t

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 074: CAT'S OUT

ANTHONY’S POVI feel every inch of muscle in my body tighten on hearing those words come out of Sonia’s mouth.“Come again,” I say, knowing damn well that I heard her clearly the first time and that she isn’t referring to any other cousin that isn’t Dexter fucking Romano.“Dexter. He cornered me in the parking lot on Wednesday.”“And you’re only just telling me this now?” I manage to ask while at the same time trying to keep my cool.I know Sonia tried hiding it. When we were together, I saw how ramrod straight her back went, voice even, and her eyes flicking away just a little too fast. It’s what gave her away. But on my part, I’d opted to give her time until she was ready to tell me what had been bothering her.Right now, her jaw is tighter than usual. She’s holding herself like someone who’s trying not to break. And I can’t help the anger that threatens to slip out.All anger is being directed at my idiotic cousin. The bastard. Having the guts to approach my wife.“What happened?”

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 073: FLIRT

SONIA’S POVBy noon, I gather my things and sign out of the office, ready to be back home and in the familiar comfort of my bedroom. Leaving the office floor, all I try to do is to be in my best mood.I want to push all Dexter said to the back of my mind, because if I’m being honest, it’s not like I didn’t know what I was getting into when I accepted this deal with Anthony. After he’d announced the date of our own wedding like he’d just casually announced the date of a trip or something, I knew that he wouldn’t make things easier for me information-wise.So, just like every other day, I paste one of those smiles on my face. It’s my way of convincing myself that all is well, and I’m not bothered. After I’ve made my way to the first floor, and I’m almost through the glass doors of the building, a brief image of something black and familiar catches my eye.I come to a halt and take one step back, whipping my head to the left as my gaze lands on the person seated in the waiting room on th

  • The Mafia’s Pregnant Bride   CHAPTER 029: CHANGE OF PLANS

ANTHONY’S POVIf I hadn’t been so fucking distracted with everything that’s happened within these few days, I would have found out that the clients I was traveling to meet had emailed me before I got on the plane that they would be in New Jersey instead. ANTHONY’S POVThe moment we arrive at Grandpa’s grand home in New Jersey, it doesn’t take me long at all before I’m able to spot Dexter’s bullshit.
