Alex sat in his dark study as rain lashed on the windows with gentle thunderstorms. He sat behind his desk with some pieces of paper in front of him, a glass of whisky and a piece of kit.

It was indeed a good evening. He had spent the last couple of days striking Vincenzi and his allies. “This is not the end, Vincenzo and Vanessa. I will make sure your heads are brought to me,” he smirked, but his thought quickly shifted to Lillian.

Her face tormented him. Her blue eyes, the curve of her lips when she snapped at him, and the way her red dress clung to her hips that morning.

Alex ran his hand through his dark hair, his jaw tightening in frustration. He had never been this distracted by a woman.

He always had control of his world and thoughts, but not anymore, yet Lilian did it without struggle.

Lilian stirred in her room; the thunderstorm and the thought of Alex gave her a sleepless night. She couldn't get over what happened between them in the morning. She sat up, her silk nightdress hugging her body.

Her throat was parched. She walked barefoot downstairs to get a glass of water, but her heart knew better.

She had been wanting to see Alex since she hadn't seen him after he left during breakfast. She was getting drawn to him, if she wouldn't admit it.

As she returned upstairs with a glass in her hand, a deadening crack of thunder hit the walls. Lilian gasped; the water poured on her, and the glass slipped and shattered on the floor.

The study door opened, and Alex's eyes met hers. Lilian quickly squatted to pick up the broken bottles.

“I’m sorry, sir, I got scared of the storm…” she explained, “I will clean this up,”

Alex quickly reached for her arm.

“Don’t pick those. You may injure yourself. I'll get someone to clean that,” he said.

Immediately, there was another thunderstorm, and Lilian quickly rushed into Alex’s arms, holding him tight.

Alex's eyes softened and narrowed as Lilian stood frozen in his arms. Her wet nightgown revealing her body and her loose hair.

“You’re safe, Lillian.” Alex whispered. “Come stay with me in the study. It’s soundproof. You have nothing to worry about in there,” he said.

They both walked into the study, and Lilian stood to the side. Alex noticed her wet nighties, and he unbuttoned his shirt to cover Lillian.

Her eyes widened in surprise. “I… I didn't mean to…” she stuttered, feeling vulnerable as her gaze dropped to his chest.

“You’re shaking,” Alex observed. He covered Lillian with a little blanket and moved close to her to keep her warm.

“I’m not afraid,” she lied. Her body betrayed her, and she leaned towards him. Sniffing his cologne and smoke wrapped around her.

“Liar,” Alex smirked and gently brushed her hair. His touch was fire, sending shivers down Lilian’s spine.

“You are scared of storms, of me,” he whispered as his gaze locked on her lips. “What else are you scared of?”

Lilian inhaled deeply, her body moving closer to Alex. “Being your prisoner,” she whispered, but her hands betrayed her and reached for his arms.

Her gaze was on him. She hated it, but she had been craving him since their first kiss.

Alex's eyes darkened, “You are not my prisoner, you’re mine.” he said, his voice low and deep.

His hands slid to her waist, and his lips crashed into hers. A kiss that was of fire, no hesitation, no mercy but burned with desire.

Lilian gasped into his mouth. Her hands tangling in his hair, desperate for him. The kiss deepened, and he slightly raised her wet nightdress up as he pressed her against the desk.

His hands roamed her hips, causing her to melt in his arms. She moaned, a soft, desperate sound, and her body arched into him, craving more despite the voice screaming to stop.

His lips trailed her neck. “You drive me insane,” he growled.

“Then why fight it?” she gasped. She hated how easily he got to her, but the spark was addictive.

Alex pulled back, his eyes filled with desire. “There are protocols to follow, and you are not ready for me,” he growled, his hands still gripping her hip.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“My world will break you, Lilian. And I…” He paused. “I don't want that.”

“Stop deciding what I can handle,” Lilian snapped, placing her hand on his bare chest.

Alex quickly removed her hands from his. His jaw clenched. “I need to have your consent if you are ready for me,” he said and took a few steps back, leaving her cold.

“You married me without my consent. What consent do you seek?” She asked, biting her lips again, which made Alex lean in.

Before Alex could respond, there was a knock on the door. “Sir, there’s a perimeter breach. Suspects are Vincenzo’s men. We need you now,” the bodyguard said.

Alex’s eyes darkened, and he turned to Lilian. “Stay here. Lock the door. Do not go anywhere,” he ordered.

“I don't need your protection. I can protect myself,” Lilian snapped.

Alex's expression hardened. “Stay here and do not move,” he ordered, the storm rage outside causing Lillian’s heart to skip. Feeling confused, she quietly watched as Alex walked out of the study.

As Alex walked through the hallway, his mind raced.

‘I can't imagine an intruder would get into my estate, especially now that I made Lilian my wife. She is my responsibility, and I must protect her from this life, from any of these.

I will make sure that the intruder doesn't see the sun rise tomorrow.’

Alex couldn't understand why he was filled with so much rage and dominance. This isn't the first time an intruder has broken into his estate. He couldn't tell if he was doing this to protect his mansion or his wife.

He had never felt the need to protect a woman the way he is protecting Lillian.

The penthouse dining room was way too fancy. It was all shiny, and the chandelier sparkled. Lillian felt very satisfied, not because of the meal alone but because she was certain that Jessie and Justin were living well. The sun came in through the huge window and made stripes on the floor where Justin played with his toys. The turkey on the table looked like it had been through a rough battle. They had already eaten half of it. There were bowls of salad and a jug of orange juice. “I’m full,” Jessie said, shoving her plate away a long time ago, but Lillian knew that look. Jessie wasn't full. She looked worried. Justin flew his toy over the table, growling in a voice that sounded like a helicopter. He bounced off, and his little toy plopped into Lillian’s water. She gently took it out and wiped it with her napkin. “Easy there, Pilot,” she said, with a grin as she handed the toy over to Justin. Justin's big hazel eyes snapped up to her. He dropped the toy like he had lost interest.

  • The Mafia’s possession   Chapter 31

Lillian’s POV:Soft, golden morning sunlight filtered through the bedroom's curtains. For a while, I lay there looking up at the ceiling. It's been a week since Alex and I returned from Italy, and I have been seriously training since then with the help of Alex and his bodyguards. My ribs and femur were aching from punching and spending too much time in the gym, but I feel myself getting stronger and more powerful as the day goes by. I sensed kg in my movements, in the way I resisted Marcus's padded knife and stopped flinching when he corrected my movements. I was advancing and making progress. I rolled out of bed and stepped into the running shower. Steam curled around me, the water scalding at first, then cooling as it ran down my back. My hair was dark and heavy against my skin as I tipped my head to let it soak. I tried to keep my mind still and block the noise in my head. The fear, the guilt and the never-ending cycle of what-ifs by closing my eyes. What if Justin hated me f

  • The Mafia’s possession   Chapter 30

Lillian’s POV:It was a rainy evening, and the car ride was a blur. The sun had already set, and everywhere was becoming dark. My heart skipped a beat when Alex’s hand moved through his jacket to his gun. His eyes were on the rare mirror as he silently watched the black SUV behind us. The driver accelerated at full speed, and the SUV eventually fell back and disappeared in the dark. Alex has made so many enemies that I am very sure he doesn't know which mafia boss is after his life. The thought of everything made my stomach numb, and I felt weak. I couldn't believe that I had been pulled into something I never thought existed. Mafia. We reached the estate after a while, and the iron gate opened. I was so exhausted that I could barely keep my eyes open. My legs were heavy as I dragged myself into the mansion. Alex didn't look at me. He didn't even speak. His focus was on the shadow around us, and he was busy sending signals to all of his bodyguards. I wanted to speak. To ask if

The house was silent, and the air was thick. Lillian twisted her door handle and swung the door open. She quickly closed the door once she got inside and sank to the floor. Her back was pressed against the door and her knees drawn to her chest. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she sobbed continuously. She mourned not just for her father but for how life had been unfair to her and her family these past years. And now a single confession had made her world crumble again. Her mind races with thoughts crashing against each other. For months, she had judged Alex and believed that he was the one behind her father’s death so that he would torment her and her family. She hated him for that and also for holding her captive. Diego was the man who killed her father. But the question she could not answer was why? What does my father have to do with all these men? All I knew was that he worked for Alex, and after he died, Alex demanded that all the money my father owed him must be paid. What exa

  • The Mafia’s possession   Chapter 28

The room was quiet and bright. The morning sun reflected into her room. Lillian sank onto the floor, her back against the door, and her arms were wrapped around her knees. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she sobbed bitterly. Alex stood in the kitchen staring at the closed lid; his hand was clenched into a fist. Lillian's sobs made him feel some type of regret, but he kept reminding himself that it wasn't his fault. He had to do what he did to Diego. He was a betrayal and a threat. A man who had destroyed countless lives by embezzling a huge sum of money, including Lillian. He wanted to go to her room to have a word with her, but he knew it would be a waste of time. The fight wasn't over. He knew Diego’s bosses would come for revenge, so he had to be ten steps ahead. The road ahead would be paved with blood and secrets, so he has to stay vigilant.Their suitcases had been packed and stayed by the door while they both sat down for breakfast. Alex had completed his mission in Italy, s

  • The Mafia’s possession   Chapter 27

Alex’s POV:The walk back to my room felt endless. Torture and killing were not new to me, but tonight it felt different. I felt guilty, as if I had done something wrong. Diego's screams replayed in my head, the way he coughed out blood and the pains in his eyes. The way he spoke about powers bigger than Vincenzo. In a normal situation, this should have given me satisfaction, but here I was with my chest carrying a huge burden and feeling regretful. And then there was Lillian. Her face lingered in my mind. Her quiet and pale face. She hadn't spoken to me; she wouldn't look at my face, nor did she beg me to stop. She had gone silent on me, and the silence is killing me. I opened the door to my room. It was very dark with a little reflection of moonlight. I sat on the edge of the bed with my elbow on my knee, dragging my hands down my face. For the first time in years, I felt remorseful. What have I become? My father wanted strength, and I wanted strength and power. Not this… this mo
