Soraya Miller’s POV

I touched my lips, then laughed quietly to myself even though I was still trying to process how quickly the evening had changed.

I just shook my head and dried my hair first, squeezing the excess water from the ends before running the towel over my arms and thighs.

My clothes were still damp enough to cling uncomfortably to my skin, so I decided to change properly once I got back to my room.

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    036 — Nineteen Years of Lies

Lucien Noire’s POVI'd noticed the man several minutes ago. He'd been standing near the edge of the reception hall, far enough from the crowd that most people probably wouldn't have paid him any attention.I had. There was something familiar about his face, though it took me a moment to place it. Then I remembered the old records I'd been looking through over the past few weeks, the names attached to patrol reports from the night my father left Nocturne. He had aged since then, but there was no mistaking him: Former Head of Patrol and Security. He had been lingering near the entrance for the better part of

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    035 — What I Wasn't Meant to See

Soraya Miller’s POVMy nerves got the better of me, causing me to step on his shoe and immediately pull back. “I’m sorry.” A knowing smile formed on his lips. “I'm devastated.” “It was an accident,” I laughed. “You were distracting me.” “That’s why I’m still deciding whether I can forgive you.” I scoffed and settled back into the rhythm, letting myself relax against him. “You'll survive.” The room around us gradually blurred into background noise. People were still talking, glasses were still clinking, and the music continued, but I stopped paying attention to any of it. Lucien leaned closer when the song changed, his mouth near my ear so I could hear him over the music. “You're getting better,” he said. “I think you’ve earned yourself some spicy rewards when we get back.” Feeling bold and fed up

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    034 — Under the Fireworks

Soraya Miller’s POV“Isla!” Avaline laughed. “You can’t say things like that.” Lucien shook his head. “Where does she even get this from?” Thankfully, there was a glimmer of recognition in Vaelen’s eyes as he gave a small inclination of his head. “Welcome to Nocturne, Soraya.” I smiled, returning the polite nod. “Thank you, Alpha.” Isla tapped at her dress, then dug into what looked like a tiny pocket near her chest and pulled out a small ring made from a little white flower, holding it out to her father. Vaelen gave her his gloved hand, and she tried sliding it over one of his fingers, but it didn’t fit. “It’s stuck,” she pouted. Surprisingly, he simply took off one glove, and Isla’s face instantly brightened as she carefully slipped the flower ring onto his bare finger. “It fits now,” he said, and whatever tiny ch

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    033 — The Nocturne Grounds

Soraya Miller’s POVI gave myself one last look in the mirror before stepping away from it.The dress was still taking some getting used to, if I was being honest. It was a dark cherry red, fitted in a flattering way around my waist and hips before falling softly over my thighs, with a slit running along one side. I adjusted the thin straps resting over my shoulders, and the ruffled fabric caught the light as I moved, giving it a soft sheen that made the whole thing look more expensive than anything I'd ever owned.Which made sense, considering I hadn't owned it until yesterday when Lucien had bought it for me during our shopping trip.I'd never have picked this dress for

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    032 — The Cost of Letting Go

Cassian Blackwell’s POVI could feel the frantic movement of his pulse beneath my palm, and instead of standing down, my fingers constricted even more.He had spent years telling me that an Alpha's first responsibility was to protect his people. And now he was standing in front of me after putting a number of them through this.My father's hands clawed at my wrist again, but it wasn't getting to me. The edges of my vision had begun to darken, and Varkon's rage was still pressing violently against my control.Let him bleed.I wanted to watch the colour drain from his face. I wanted him to understand what it felt like to be powerless while someone else decided whether he

  • The Maid Who Was the Alpha's Mate    031 — Necessary Sacrifices

Cassian Blackwell’s POVI shoved open the door to my parents’ suite so hard it slammed against the wall.Father looked up from the documents spread across the centre table, his expression immediately tightening at the sight of me. Mother was seated a few feet away by the window with a cup of tea in her hands, and she paused halfway through lifting it to her lips.Neither of them spoke, and I didn’t give them the chance.I crossed the room and threw the file onto the table in front of my father. The photographs, medical reports, research notes and several pages of intake records scattered across its surface.“What the hell is this?” I could hear the
