Second Chance

"Riona wake up, you can't sleep here."

In her sleep, Riona felt someone shaking her.

"You have not won," she mumbled.

"Huh? Stop talking rubbish and get inside."

Riona jolted up from the chair, breathing hard with her hand on her chest. Her wide eyes roamed her surrounding, what is happening? her brows creased at the sight of the flower she had planted in her garden, the air was fresh and clear and her hand was free.

But I was in some kind of warehouse with Lily and Marshall and... I was shot. Her eyes darted down to where her hand held firmly, searching for a gun wound but was nothing there. What is going on?

"Riona what were you dreaming of? You look like you saw a ghost or something, never mind that just get inside because you can't sleep here." Riona now noticed Kiara who was frowning at her and going on about something.

"What happened? How did I get here?" She pulled the old woman close, waiting for an answer.

"You hit your head bad? you came by yourself so why are you asking me that? This girl." Kiara pulled away from her hold and helped her up while she stood with shaking legs.

Something was not right, was all that some kind of nightmare, it felt too real to be just a horrible dream. Kiara snapped her fingers in front of Riona's face, bringing her out of her thoughts.

"You do know that you are to meet the alpha of midnight pack today right?"

"What do you mean?" I have no such meeting, the last time she went to the midnight pack was a year ago when she met... Marshall.

"Don't tell me you forgot." Kiara shook her head at her as she led her inside. "This is an important meeting, you can't mess it up."

Riona could remember the meeting she had the last time and all the events that surrounded it, it wasn't a big success and she barely left with her head intact because of her inexperience in dealing with male alphas, Marshall saved her and left his pack to be with her.

How was this happening, she knew she had died so how... Then her mind drifted to the only story her mom ever told her as a child, about the white wolf who had extraordinary powers and could do things normal wolfs couldn't. Her scar did heal even when the doctor said it wouldn't and she recalled her mom's diary she could never bring herself to read since her mom died. Why am I thinking of that now? Is there something in it to help me understand?

"Of course, I did not forget, I will go to my room and get ready." She forced a smile at Kiara before walking away to her room.

Closing the door behind her once she reached her room she rushed to her bed and crouched, lowering her face to the floor and looking under her bed. She stretched her hand and reached out for a small box once she spotted it.

There was no way those stories were true.

Her movement became hesitant when she held the old wooden box in her hand, she settled on the floor of her room and unfasten the box. Her eyes roamed the pictures of her mom flickering to one of all three of them together on a picnic and a sad smile crept to her lips, her mom's ring was in there too, she picked it up but froze when her eyes spied the small black diary.

Taking a deep breath, Riona took out the diary and dropped the box. The diary looked worn out because her mom always had it on her, she skimmed her finger on the book, why did mom always have this on her? There was something in here she had to see because there was a voice in her head compelling her to read it, Riona opened the book and read the first page.

July 2nd, 1943- First Diary Entry.

I hate writing and I don't know why granny gave me a diary for my birthday I mean it's a book, I can't even eat it and it's not even cute. Anyway, granny said I would know what to write about when it was time but I think the crazy is getting to her.

Oh yeah, a full moon is coming soon so there is a slight chance I will finally be able to shift and just between us I am a lot scared cause I heard it is a painful experience but I can't lose to Greta, she shifted early and now she won't shut up about her lame wolf and finding a mate. I don't care for a mate but I want to shift and the pain will be worth it. Granny predicted I will have a white wolf like hers but I don't think I want that, white wolfs are so boring and there is next to nothing about them so they must not be all that great. Anyways I'm out for now.

It was strange to see a different side of her mom, mom was reserved, loved writing, and would never sound like an out-of-control teen. Riona turned a page and read on.

September 6th, 1950- Something Is Not Right.

Maybe granny wasn't just a crazy old lady, I don't know what is happening but something is not right, I THINK I WENT BACK IN TIME.

Is that even possible? One moment I was locked up in an underground cell of the Redwood pack after they captured me and then forced me to drink poison then the next thing I'm in my room right before everything went downhill for my pack, I don't know if this is real but I had to write this before I made a move. Is this what granny meant when she gave me this book? If she were alive I could ask her.

My alpha who is also my mate is going to be ambushed and killed today but I can stop it and save the pack, I didn't want to be Luna, and the thought of having a mate scared me because I was not ready for forever but now I can't waste my second chance. Maybe it may not be as bad as I always imagined, everyone will die if I hesitate and my mate will be gone. This is insane but I need to go now.

Riona stopped reading, she was a white wolf just like her mom. Did she really travel back in time? Her mom's diary uncovered all the mysteries, which is why she couldn't shake off the need to read the diary but just like her mom, she had a choice to make to protect her pack and she knew there was no way she would lose the second time.
