LOGINCHAPTER FOUR
ZOEY
Just as Alpha Graham had instructed, I was locked up in the cell-like room and they had guards standing outside to make sure that I didn’t escape.
I was lost in thoughts and then I suddenly something familiar rise inside me.
“Zoey.” Frankie, my wolf, suddenly said in my head.
“Frankie!” I called out, partly relieved and partly annoyed. “What’s going on? Why couldn’t I transform?”
“I can’t tell you about it now.” She replied, and then changed the topic, “But with time, you’ll know more about me!”
“Are you crazy?” I snapped. “We’re in this situation because you didn’t let me transform and they all think I’m a vampire and you think hiding things from me is the best thing to do?”
“Yes,” Frankie replied.
“I think you’re sick!” I huffed and my nostrils flared in anger. “How do you expect me to know you when you don’t want to tell me anything?”
“I’m doing it for your own good.” She said and I knew didn’t understand a thing. Frustrated, I stood up and went to the door.
I grabbed the door handle and twisted it, and to my surprise, it was open and there was no guard in sight! What’s going on? Did they purposely leave it open or was it a mistake?
“Go back!” Frankie said seriously.
“No. Why should I listen to you when you left me when I needed you?” I snapped. “This is my only chance to leave.”
“What if someone sees you?” She asked and I didn’t reply and I took a step outside. I knew I had to leave.
“Frankie?” I called out but just like before, she was quiet again. I still couldn’t understand what was going on and now, it was like she had brought me out only to leave me alone.
What was I doing? If someone was to see me, they wouldn’t hesitate to kill me. I looked around and there was still no one in sight. This was my chance to escape but I was scared.
I stood outside for what seemed like a while as I contemplated on what to do, but before I could take a step back, I saw a pack guard angrily approaching me, and before I could react, he began screaming at the top of his voice.
“Why are you outside? Are you trying to escape?,” he asked sharply and glared at me, showing just how much he despised me.
I swallowed hard as I tried to explain that I wasn’t escaping. “N..no.” I stuttered, without giving me the chance to explain, he started yelling at me and raising alarm.
“She’s trying to escape! The vampire is trying to escape!” He screamed at the top of his voice.
“N..no,” I pleaded with him as I tried to reason with him, “Please, It’s nothing like that,”
“Help!” He continued yelling, and refused to see reason with me, “The vampire is trying to escape. I need help!”
I panicked and I tried to run back to the cell but he grabbed my arm and held me tightly. I yelled in pain but he didn’t let me go even as I struggled with him.
“Let me go!” I yelled instinctively and since I didn’t have a choice, I bit his shoulder.
He winced in pain and pulled back and immediately, I tried to run back into the cell again.
The guard’s eyes widened in shock and the next moment, he grabbed me and smacked me across the face that I saw stars and I stumbled backwards, holding my face.
“You bloodsucking bitch—”
He didn’t get to complete his words as he was suddenly interrupted by Alpha Graham, “What the hell is going on here?” He growled in a low and dangerous voice.
The guard’s hands shook as he tried to explain himself. “A-Alpha, she’s trying to escape,” he stammered. “The vampire is trying to run away—”
“T..that’s not true. The door was unlocked.” I tried to defend myself
“Get out,” Graham ordered angrily.
“But—”
“I said get out!” His voice was filled with authority and dominance that couldn’t be ignored. “I asked you to watch her at all times and you left her unsupervised. What if she had caused problems?” He yelled angrily.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I left to go attend to something and when I came back, she was in the hallway, trying to run away.” The guard’s face immediately became pale, and he angrily glared at me before he turned around and stormed out.
I stood on my spot and my heart was still racing. Graham sighed deeply as if to calm down before he turned to me. He suddenly grabbed my chin and squeezed hard. “You’re already causing problems in my pack,” he said and his eyes blazed with anger.
I frowned as I tried to defend myself. I should have been begging him but I couldn’t control my mouth. “He’s lying. I wasn’t trying to escape—”
“Then how are you in the hallway?” Graham interrupted me, rendering me speechless. I realized that no matter how I tried to defend myself, it wouldn’t be possible because my situation was compromising.
His eyes were dark with anger, and he continued in a low voice. “I don’t care what you do. One more problem, and I’ll kill you myself.”
His words scared me, and I knew that he wasn’t bluffing. I didn’t do anything wrong. The door was unlocked and I was only wandering.
He grabbed my arm and dragged me back to the cell, “If I see you out her one more time, consider yourself dead.” He said in a eerily calm voice and then turned to leave but he stopped at the door. Without looking at me, he said, “I don’t trust you.”
I swallowed hard and waited for his next words.
“Don’t make me notice you” he continued. “Or else, I’ll send your dead body to the vampire lord before he even comes to get you.”
He finally let me go and wiped his hand that he touched me with, like I was dirty, and for some reason, I felt hurt.
I stared at him and wondered what he had with the vampire lord that he wanted to use me as bait because he thought I meant something to the vampire lord. I had no idea who the vampire lord was and I certainly didn’t want to be caught up in their mess.
Alpha Graham shut the door loudly behind him and I heard him when he locked it. I sighed and sat on the floor, defeated.
Lily & Viktor – A Promise of Forever (Zoey’s POV)“You’re late,” Lily whispered, eyes wide as I slipped into the small clearing. She looked breathtaking in a simple cream gown, her hair twisted into soft curls that caught the light like spun gold.“I’m so sorry. Hope kept me,” I said, grinning as I hugged her. “You’re glowing. Like…literally glowing.”Lily rolled her eyes, but her cheeks flushed pink. “It’s just the moonlight.”“No,” I teased. “It’s the vampire fiancé.”Before she could answer, Viktor stepped out from behind a tree. He wore a dark suit that looked pristine, every line sharp and perfect. But the moment his gaze landed on Lily, his whole face softened. The infamous vampire king, reduced to pure awe.“Are you ready?” he asked her quietly, offering his hand.Lily exhaled, nerves flickering across her face before she placed her fingers in his. “I am now.”They walked toward the stone arch at the center of the clearing. It wasn’t a grand ceremony, no crowd, no trumpets. Ju
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONEEPILOGUEZoey’s POV)“Stop trying to climb out of the basket,” I said, laughing as Hope wiggled her tiny body like a determined pup.Morning sunlight spilled across the meadow outside the Alpha house. We’d brought a small woven basket filled with toys, thinking it would keep her entertained while Graham and I shared a quiet breakfast. Instead, she had decided the grass beyond was far more interesting.Graham leaned down and caught her before she could topple over the edge. “You’re just like your mother,” he teased. “Never stays where she’s put.”I threw a berry at him. It bounced off his shoulder and landed in the grass. “You’re worse. You always follow me when I run.”“That’s not worse,” he said with a grin, settling Hope back in the basket. “That’s loyalty.”Hope kicked her chubby legs, squealing with delight. Her laughter filled the meadow like music. I felt the sound settle deep in my chest, a soft reminder of everything we had fought for.Across
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTYZOEY“Look at her, Graham,” I whispered, brushing a curl of dark hair from Hope’s forehead. “She’s growing too fast.”We sat on the wide porch of the Alpha house, the morning sun spilling over the valley. Hope was lying between us on a soft blanket, kicking her tiny feet in the warm light. Beyond the porch, the forest shimmered in shades of gold and green, alive with the calls of birds and the faint hum of workers finishing the last repairs.“She’s not even crawling yet,” Graham said, though his eyes never left her. “You’re the one growing too fast.”I laughed softly and leaned my head against his shoulder. “You sound just like Hannah.”“She’s right,” he murmured. His arm wrapped around me, strong and sure. “I don’t ever want to miss a single moment.”Hope squealed, tiny fists waving in the air. Graham reached down and let her grab his finger. Her grip was small but fierce, and his entire face softened. For a man who had faced wars and betrayals, he melte
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY NINE (Zoey’s POV)“Is this really happening?” I whispered as we followed Graham down the quiet hall. My voice sounded small against the stone walls.“It’s happening,” Graham said, but his hand was tight around mine. “Viktor swore the ritual is safe.”The room smelled faintly of lavender and old wood. Luna Velma lay on a low bed, silver hair spread across the pillow like moonlight. She looked peaceful, too peaceful. My chest squeezed. I had seen her many times like this, always still, always untouchable. But tonight felt different.Hannah and Lily were already inside, standing near the wall with worried eyes. Viktor waited at the foot of the bed, his tall frame lit by soft candlelight. His crimson eyes flickered toward us, unreadable.“Are you ready?” Viktor asked Graham quietly.“No,” Graham said, his voice low but steady. “But we have to do this.”Viktor nodded once and looked at me. “You stay close to him. The magic is powerful, but it will not harm yo
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT(Zoey’s POV)“Careful,” Graham warned for the tenth time that morning as I stepped out of our bedroom.I rolled my eyes but smiled. “I’m walking, not wrestling rogues.”He stayed close anyway, his arm brushing mine as we entered the main hall. The scent of roasted meat and warm bread filled the air. The dining room had been rearranged to fit more people, but the long tables were still half empty. So many warriors were out helping with repairs.I adjusted the baby in my arms. Our daughter slept peacefully, her tiny fingers curling around the edge of the soft blanket Hannah had made. The sound of hammers and saws came faintly from outside, music of a pack rebuilding.Ronald was already at the table, his sleeves rolled up, dried mud streaked across his jaw. “Morning, Alpha. Luna.” His eyes softened when he looked at the baby. “Morning, little star.”“Ronald,” I said with a laugh. “You’re the only warrior I know who coos at a baby.”He shrugged. “She de
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN“Zoey, breathe. Slow and steady.”Hannah’s voice cut through the pain as another contraction ripped through me. I clutched the side of the bed, sweat dripping down my face. My heart raced, but I forced myself to inhale and exhale like she taught me.“I’m breathing,” I panted, gripping the blanket so hard my knuckles turned white. “It just… hurts!”“You’re doing amazing,” Lily said, kneeling beside Hannah. Her eyes were wide but determined. “The baby is almost here. Graham will be back any second.”Another sharp wave made me cry out. Hannah pressed a cool cloth to my forehead. “You’re strong, Zoey. Just a little longer.”The tent smelled of herbs and warm cloth. Outside, voices murmured and feet rushed past. The battle was over. The council was meeting. Viktor and his warriors were preparing to return to their lands. Peace was finally ours, but right now, all I could focus on was the life trying to come into the world. The flap of the tent burst open
