CHAPTER 18: Guards Down

Marahas akong bumuntong hininga at dumiretso papasok sa A&E para mag-asikaso ng mga pasyente. Inilibot ko ang paningin ko sa buong emergency room, may mga umiiyak dahil sa sakit na natamo sa aksidente. Nagkakagulo ang mga nurses, interns, at mga doctor dahil hindi nila alam kung sino ang uunahin dahil sa dami ng mga pasyente.

Several stretchers flooded the emergency room in an unceasing, back-to-back wave. I can see scattered blood on the head, nose, stomach of a few patients, broken arms, legs, noses,and everything related to vehicle collisions.

THE flatline of the monitor pierced into my skull as I stared down at my patient's closed eyes and pale skin. Shane, my eighteen years old patient, was driving her car, heading to her university, when she was T-bone between two drunk drivers.

"Time of death: 2:16 p.m." My voice suddenly sounded bizarre than my normal voice. This line always makes my throat hurt.

Life is really cruel and unfair.

One minute she was alive, fighting for her life
