‎Later that evening, Lyra closed the café and stepped outside.

‎

‎The street was quiet, the sky painted deep violet as the sun disappeared behind distant hills.

‎

‎She walked toward the small apartment building where she lived.

‎

‎Halfway there, she noticed something unusual.

‎

‎Two strangers stood across the street.

‎

‎A man and a woman.

‎

‎They weren’t threatening.

‎

‎Just… watching.

‎

‎Lyra slowed slightly.

‎

‎The man was tall with sharp features and a relaxed posture that hinted at hidden strength. Beside him stood a woman with long auburn hair and warm, intelligent eyes.

‎

‎When Lyra approached, the woman smiled kindly.

‎

‎“Lyra?”

‎

‎Lyra stopped.

‎

‎“Yes?”

‎

‎“I’m Sierra.”

‎

‎She gestured to the man beside her.

‎

‎“And this is Cigar.”

‎

‎Lyra blinked.

‎

‎“Do… I know you?”

‎

‎Cigar grinned.

‎

‎“No. But our friend does.”

‎

‎Lyra’s stomach tightened slightly.

‎

‎“You mean the silver-eyed guy from the café.”

‎

‎Sierra laughed softly.

‎

‎“That obvious, huh?”

‎

‎Lyra crossed her arms.

‎

‎“He’s hard to miss.”

‎

‎Cigar nodded.

‎

‎“Yeah. Being a six-foot-four Alpha King tends to do that.”

‎

‎Lyra froze.

‎

‎“Alpha… what?”

‎

‎Sierra shot Cigar a look.

‎

‎“Cigar.”

‎

‎“What?” he said innocently.

‎

‎“You promised we’d ease into it.”

‎

‎Lyra stared at them.

‎

‎“Ease into what?”

‎

‎Sierra sighed gently.

‎

‎“Lyra… what I’m about to tell you might sound strange.”

‎

‎Lyra’s instincts screamed that this conversation had just stepped into the realm of very strange.

‎

‎“Okay…”

‎

‎Sierra’s voice softened.

‎

‎“Lucian is not just a man.”

‎

‎Lyra blinked.

‎

‎“What does that mean?”

‎

‎Cigar crossed his arms.

‎

‎“It means he’s a werewolf.”

‎

‎Silence.

‎

‎Lyra stared at them for three full seconds.

‎

‎Then she laughed.

‎

‎“Good one.”

‎

‎Neither of them laughed.

‎

‎Lyra’s smile faded.

‎

‎“Oh… you’re serious.”

Lucian arrived minutes later.

‎

‎He had sensed Lyra’s rising emotions from half a mile away.

‎

‎Confusion.

‎

‎Shock.

‎

‎Fear.

‎

‎He stepped out of the shadows just as Lyra looked like she might bolt.

‎

‎Her eyes widened.

‎

‎“You!”

‎

‎Lucian approached slowly, palms open.

‎

‎“Lyra… please don’t panic.”

‎

‎She pointed at Sierra and Cigar.

‎

‎“They just told me you’re a werewolf.”

‎

‎Lucian hesitated.

‎

‎Then nodded.

‎

‎“Yes.”

‎

‎Lyra waited for him to laugh.

‎

‎He didn’t.

‎

‎Her heart began to pound.

‎

‎“This is some kind of joke.”

‎

‎“It isn’t.”

‎

‎Cigar sighed.

‎

‎“Lucian, maybe show her.”

‎

‎Sierra elbowed him.

‎

‎“Not in the middle of the street!”

‎

‎Lyra took a step back.

‎

‎“This is insane.”

‎

‎Lucian’s voice softened.

‎

‎“I know it sounds impossible.”

‎

‎“You think?”

‎

‎“But everything Sierra and Cigar told you is true.”

‎

‎Lyra shook her head.

‎

‎“No.”

‎

‎Her instincts told her to run.

‎

‎But something stronger held her there.

‎

‎The strange pull she felt whenever Lucian looked at her.

‎

‎“What do you want from me?” she asked quietly.

‎

‎Lucian’s silver eyes softened.

‎

‎“You.”

‎

‎Lyra’s breath caught.

‎

‎“You barely know me.”

‎

‎Lucian took another careful step forward.

‎

‎“My kind has something called a fated mate.”

‎

‎Lyra frowned.

‎

‎“And?”

‎

‎“When I walked into that café yesterday… my wolf recognized you.”

‎

‎“Recognized me how?”

‎

‎Lucian’s voice dropped to a near whisper.

‎

‎“As mine.”

‎

‎Lyra stared at him.

‎

‎“Absolutely not.”

‎

‎Cigar muttered under his breath.

‎

‎“Well that went well.”

‎

‎Sierra elbowed him again.

‎

‎Lyra turned back to Lucian.

‎

‎“I don’t believe in werewolves. And I definitely don’t believe in destiny relationships with strangers.”

‎

‎Lucian nodded calmly.

‎

‎“That’s fair.”

‎

‎“You’re taking this surprisingly well.”

‎

‎“I expected resistance.”

‎

‎Lyra folded her arms.

‎

‎“So what now?”

‎

‎Lucian’s voice was steady.

‎

‎“Now… I prove to you that we’re not monsters.”

‎

‎Sierra smiled gently.

‎

‎“You should come visit the pack.”

‎

‎Lyra blinked.

‎

‎“The… werewolf pack?”

‎

‎“Yes.”

‎

‎Lyra stared at them like they had collectively lost their minds.

‎

‎“Let me think about that.”

‎

‎She paused.

‎

‎“Absolutely not.”

‎

‎She turned and walked toward her apartment.

‎

‎But before entering the building, she glanced back.

‎

‎Lucian was still standing there.

‎

‎Watching her.

‎

‎Not angry.

‎

‎Not frustrated.

‎

‎Just patient.

‎

‎And for some reason…

‎

‎That patience made her heart race even more.

  • The Moon's Chosen Mate   The Ceremony Approaches

‎The next morning Sierra knocked on Lyra’s cabin door.‎‎“Wake up!”‎‎Lyra groaned.‎‎“It’s too early for enthusiasm.”‎‎Sierra walked in carrying a bundle of fabric.‎‎“Today we start preparing for your Luna Ceremony.”‎‎Lyra sat up.‎‎“Oh right.”‎‎Sierra opened the bundle.‎‎Inside was a stunning white gown woven with silver thread that shimmered like moonlight.‎‎Lyra’s eyes widened.‎‎“That’s beautiful.”‎‎“It’s traditional.”‎‎Lyra touched the fabric gently.‎‎“Am I really doing this?”‎‎Sierra smiled warmly.‎‎“You love him, don’t you?”‎‎Lyra hesitated only a second.‎‎“Yes.”‎‎Sierra nodded.‎‎“Then the ceremony is just the world catching up with what your heart already knows.”‎‎Lyra smiled softly.‎‎“I like that answer.”‎‎‎But far beyond the celebration…‎‎Darius was still alive.‎‎Humiliated.‎‎Broken.‎‎And furious.‎‎He stood in a dark cavern speaking to a group of rogue wolves.‎‎“The king believes he has won,” Darius growled.‎‎The rogues
