Chapter 5

The young Alpha stared at his younger brother.

His little brother was smiling widely at him, standing next to a very pretty lady.

"Good evening Alpha", the lady greeted.

"Hello there", Alpha Calihan replied with one of his own infamous smiles.

The lady blushed as his brother, Carlos held on to her hand.

"Brother", Carlos greeted.

"Little brother", Calihan replied.

Carlos frowned in annoyance at the nickname making Calihan smirk. Carlos let out a puff before speaking.

"This is my mate poppy and over there by the car with mom is her grandmother".

Callahan looked over to the Lexus car and saw his mother chatting happily with an old lady.

"I'm so sorry for you", Calihan suddenly engulfed poppy in his arms.

"Hey. Firstly let her go and secondly why?", his brother asked as he separated them.

"You're stuck with him", Calihan pouted and she giggled.

"More like I'm sorry for him cos he's stuck with me", she said.

Suddenly, the faint smell of coffee and Strawberries wafted through the Alpha's nose.

His senses tingled and the hair on his body stood like tiny pickles.

The scent was total-

Bliss.

And It was coming from Poppy.

In confusion, Calihan moved closer to her and the scent hits him more, attacking his olfactory senses.

What could this possibly mean?, the young Alpha was confused.

Surely, he wasn't going to share a mate with his brother, was he?.

"Carl, what does she smell like to you?", Calihsn asked through the mindlink.

"Why?", his brother queried.

"Just answer me".

"Well, she smells like chocolate".

Calihan lets out an inaudible breath of relief.

"Excuse me poppy?", he turned to her.

"Yes Alpha?".

"Not to be rude but are these your clothes?", he pointed to what she had on.

"Uhm no, they actually belong to my friend. She gave me as a parting gift".

"Is she mated?".

"No".

In that case-.

"Mosaic?", Calihan called his wolf.

"I know", his wolf replied.

"we have to find her", Calihan added.

"At once", Mosaic agreed.

"What's her name?", Calihsn asked Poppy.

"Uhm Diya", Poppy said, starting to feel uncomfortable with the questions.

"She's also from your pack right?", the Alpha pressed on.

"Yes".

"I think she might be my mate", Calihan said to ease her mind which worked because she brightened up.

"That's great especially since she can't t-", Poppy began.

"Calihan dear, come over", his mother called.

The Alpha went over to his mother and the old lady.

"Good evening ma'am", he greeted.

"Good evening Alpha", the old lady smiled warmly.

After the pleasantries and introductions, they all went inside and Poppy immediately moved into Carlos' room.

Calihan, on the other hand groaned knowing he wouldn't be able to sleep well tonight. He couldn't keep still to himself as he stared at Poppy during dinner.

The lady was still putting on the clothes from his supposed mate and he wanted to get another delightful whiff of that scent.

He knew it would be weird to sniff his brother's mate so after the food, he decided to interrogate her.

"Poppy, can i talk to you for a moment?".

"Ok Alpha".

Calihan took Poppy outside and sighed heavily before speaking.

"Your friend lives in your pack right?".

"Yes Alpha".

"Can you give me the address of her house?, I'm going to look for her".

"It's very easy, just tell anyone you're going to the house of Elias McClain, the one with the mute daughter".

"She's mute?".

"Yes", Poppy mumbled, slowly looking up to meet his eyes.

"Do you have a problem with that?", she was trying to gauge his reaction.

"No, i just feel bad for her", Calihan replied slowly.

He couldn't how it must feel to not be able to communicate. To voice out one's thoughts.

He was really curious.

What could have made her mute?.

He wanted to know everything about her.

"Diya hates pity".

"Do you have a picture of her?".

"Yeah", she replied as she unlocked her phone.

"She doesn't smile often so this is a rare picture", She said as she showed Calihan the picture of a gorgeous girl with an earth shattering smile.

She had high cheek bones, perfectly shaped eyebrows, a downturned nose and the most beautiful eyes Calihsn had ever seen.

The girl in the picture was smiling, exposing her well arranged set of white teeth but not too white like the snow.

Her bottom lip which was pink was jutted out in a wide smile.

The brown sweater snuggled perfectly against her milky chocolate skin making her look like a goddess on earth.

Calihan had found his weakness.

Full bottom lips.

Oh, how he wanted to kiss her so much. Taste her. Suckle those delicious looking lips.

He sighed.

Diya, his beautiful mate.

Poppy sent the picture to him and he thanked her before going back in.

Rajesh, Min Ho and Daniel came by later to congratulate Carlos and to find a reason to drink. He informed them about going to find his mate and Min Ho said he would tag along.

The next day, Calihan and Min Ho bid everyone goodbye and set for his mate's pack.

Alpha Calihan was anxious.

Impatient and apprehensive.

He couldn't stop staring at her picture and his wolf was going crazy.

"I can't wait to see mate!", Mosaic screamed in his head.

"I can't wait to hold her".

"Stop smiling idiot", Calihan snapped at his friend.

"Why?, happiness is free", Min Ho shrugged.

Calihan groaned and closed his eyes, hoping they would just appear in front of his mate's house now.

After hours of unbearable pain, they got to the pack. The border patrol had already announced their arrival so they were taken to the pack house immediately.

Calihan who was too anxious greeted them hurriedly.

"Alpha, Luna, we won't be staying long".

"Is something wrong, Alpha Calihan?".

"I've just found out that my mate is at your pack and I've come to get her".

"Congratulations Alpha, who's she?".

"Her name is Diya. Diya McClain, Elias daughter and she's mute", Calihan stated, making use of the information Poppy had given him.

The Alpha immediately wore a scowl and the Luna forwned.

"That bitch ran away".

Calihan growled and Mosaic was ready to come out to choke them.

How dare they?.

What audacity?.

"Do not talk about my mate like that!", the normally calm Aloha Calihan snapped.

"That's my Luna you're insulting so please respect yourself", Min Ho spoke up.

Yeah, Min Ho had never been the collected one amongst them.

The Alpha glared at Calihan then spoke up. "She killed her father then ran away".

Calihan's eyes almost popped out of their sockets and he staggered back a little.

His mate was a killer?.

That was simply impossible. The mate he saw in the picture was far from a murderer.

The only thing she could probably kill at most would be a cockroach.

Or mice.

"No, i don't believe them", Mosaic said annoyed.

"Take me to her house".

"As you wish".

They led the way to the house which was located on the side of a cliff.

Calihan opened the unlocked door and an unidentified smell strikes his nostrils.

There was a pool of blood on the floor, clothes were scattered everywhere and everywhere was in disarray.

Calihan went around the house looking for her room but didn't find it. He saw a shawl of hers and sniffed it then followed the scent down to a basement where he found some of her things.

It looked like she only had few things.

What happened to her was the question running through Alpha Calihan's mind.

"I want mate", Mosaic whined.

"Me too buddy".

"Me too".

Calihan picked up her underwear, a lace bra and panties and sniffed it then tucked it in his jean pocket.

No, he was not a pervert..

She was his mate and he had the right, at least that was what he told himself.

He picked up a glass picture frame of her and hugged it then stood up.

"You okay bro?", Min Ho asked.

In sorrow, Calihan nodded his head and sighed.

"Where is she now?", he asked.

"I said she ran away", Min Ho answered.

"No, she's dead", the two men turned to look at the person that spoke up and saw it was the future Alpha of his mate's pack.

"What did you say?", Calihan frowned.

"I overheard the guards saying she jumped over a cliff when they were chasing her".

The frame dropped from Calihan's hand in shock and shattered into pieces just like his heart.

"Cal?".

His mate was dead.

He was mateless.

There was simply no reason to live. No reason to go on.

She had died before they even met. He must have been given the worst destiny by the fates.

Calihan shifted into his wolf and ran out to the cliff.

He stood at the edge of the cliff and howled in sadness.

Mosaic was crying.

Both man and wolf were hurting making them want to jump over the cliff too.

With one last sigh, Calihan looked over the cliff and decided to go meet his mate wherever she was.

He prayed to the moon goddess that wherever she was, he would join her there.

The Alpha was about to jump when he felt sharp teeth sink into his wolf's leg. He turned around to look at the culprit and saw another wolf growling at him.

Mocha, Min Ho's wolf.

"No, Mosaic".

"Stay back, Mocha".

Calihan growled at him but he didn't back down.

"Don't be stupid, i don't need to tell you that you have your mom, Carlos and the pack to look after".

"What if you get a second chance mate?", he continued.

"I want Diya".

"You've never met her".

"Yet i already love her so much", Calihan confessed.

Calihan settled down at the cliff and just closed his eyes imagining what his life with Diya would have been like.
